LOVE THIS FILM~! A Cult Classic really-Folks " Get IT " or not, I Got the Message Very Strong..it's a wake up call to LIFE really & What a surprise ending~! Thanks for posting this~!!
Near the top of the list of my favorite movies. Never been to the Sidewinder, but have been through the area a few times; back-packed from coast to coast in '76! So cool that you went; I would love to go there, too. This film really captures the spirit of the road, though the story takes place in one location.
Bob ... Living in southern California I have often had the privilege to visit Newberry Springs and the Bagdad Cafe (it's still looks just as it did in the movie) on my way to Death Valley National Park. Many folks think the desert is vast void not worth visiting; however I believe it has it's own beauty and is full of life and wonder. The movie Bagdad Cafe captures that wonder. One of my all time favorite movies. Thanks for posting.
My mother grew up in the house directly across the street from the cafe, and my grandparents continued living there until about 1998. They were both walk on parts in the film. Whenever I visted them as a kid I always went across the street to the cafe. Didn't even know about the movie until I was a teenager.
I LOVE this movie! There's a certain feel to it that has me watching it over and over again. We stopped by the cafe on our Route 66 to Tombstone trip. I definitely want to stop by again. I didn't notice the camper trailer still there. I know the motel part was already gone. When did you visit?
@synholiday We visited about two years ago. The motel rooms were pretty run down, but still there, as were a couple of old trailers, similar to the one in the film.
It's only about a 40 minute drive from where we live and we do hope to visit it again soon.
@BobStone1907 Ah, so we missed seeing the motel by about a year (we went last year). We lived about an hour-and-a-half from there, in California City, up until last year (now we're in L.A.).
OhMyGAWrsh! DEARBobStone1907: I apologize! YOU, for sure, are on the mark, when you wrote about BAGDAD (CALIFORNIA!!)... I used to think I was a Good Researcher! ... but now?... NOT. ... If you already have not, do try both of Google's TWO "Bagdad-s"... CA and AZ. The AZ one is a copper mine town... with not much of a Cafe...and the CA one "had' (gone now) a "real" BagdadCafe. Hooray! Thank you... BobS... I am jonycuddlesgert... at YouTube.
Hi, GoodFellow-BobStone: Thank you for the completely beautiful VideoMontage... I've loved! this film, since 1987, too. I am quite certain that (1) There exists no Bagdad town in Calif... but, rather, the (2) Bagdad (AZ) is very real, very lovely!, very small... and IN Arizona. Take a few mins, won't you?... and "Google": Bagdad, Arizona... I am warmly glad that you and your dear wife went to Bagdad. Sincerely, Jonycuddlesgert... YouTube.

On the way from San Diego to Scottsdale I went off from the "right" way and went to the "Bagdad Cafe". It was magic! I closed my eyes and I heard Christine Kaufmann: Zu viel Harmonie!!!!
The silver trailer shown in one of the pictures was also used in Steve Earle's music video for "the other kind"
Also, I'm not sure, but I know that when I left Newberry Springs, the Bagdad cafe was very close to shutting down. Most people that go there are the local old men and tourists looking to get pictures of the place where the movie was filmed.
I grew up in this town and it kind of sucks to hear about how it's dying.
I never forget that movie. I want to watch it again, i am going to buy it, to have it in my collection. The song is beutiful, i've seen the movie like 3 times now. The effects are beutiful, the pictures, the story of the movie. I just love it. Thanks for sharing pics.
I've been haunted by this song since I first saw this movie years ago. I just rented it again.
It's a great little gem of a movie, unfortunately, not everyone will "get it".
it just proves you don't need a lot of special effects, blistering dialogue, or even a big box office star (no offense to the actors in this flick) to present a thought provoking and entertaining movie.
Very nice tribute! I loved the movie from the day it opened, and I stumbled upon the actual location many years later, but let me tell you - EVERY time I travel along the 40 freeway, I make it a point to have breakfast at this AMAZING place. I hope everyone gets a chance to experience the magic of visiting the site of this incredible film. And boy, oh boy - do they ever make a great breakfast!!
I so agree with the positive comments about this movie. It is one of the most beautiful and moving films of all time. I've seen it many times and somehow I always get something more from it. Truly magical!
hey u did a beautiful job on this.....ive seen this movie a few times........its addicting......its hard to describe......not sure theres anything else like it out there.....thanks again
One of my favorite movies of all time...........such a wonderful message. The TV show............not so much. I found this at Tower Records many years ago on DVD, I sure wish I'd bought it then, because it's almost impossible to find now.
This is one of my favourite films. No action, no violence. Just simple and magical at the same time. Just snipets of humanity and so positive - makes me feel good every time I watch it - restores your faith somehow.
You want me to post the whole film?! My use of the images and song are already a modest copyright infringement. Posting the film in its entirety would be far worse. No thanks.
This has been on my Top 10 list ever since I saw this little gem...it is such a sweet character study, and everyone was cast PERFECTLY...beautiful theme for the film!!
Thank you for your comment. And thanks to all those who took the time to comment, both positive, and offering suggestions. I really do appreciate them all.
The song is silly. Bagdad Cafe is on the road from Needles and Laughlin to Barstow or San Bernardino. Vegas is on I-15, quite a ways away across the valley. You would never happen on to the cafe if you were driving to or from Vegas.
While it is important that people with your mindset exist to critique maps, you shouldn't bother critiquing works of art. The song is hardly "silly." It sets up the mood and prepares the audience, and underlines significant moments throughout. It is a beautiful, haunting melody, beautifully sung. And by the way, in comments by visitors to the cafe, kept in books by the owner, many said they were coming from or going to Las Vegas. Not everyone sticks to the Interstates.
Oh, I am sorry, whose job is that? I was a humanities major and I love films, even this one. The lyrics are goofy though because you have to be severely lost to find the cafe if you are driving to or from Vegas, it is about 20 miles and 90 degrees off of the right path. And, by the way, it is right next to an interstate, I-40 which parallels route 66 in California. The visitors were lost boneheads then :)
specifically I lived 2 miles away on Route 66, beautiful desert and the song fits the mood of the place, that is for sure. Just get a map so you don't get lost and die of dehydration. The desert will kill you, just ask the soldiers and marines who train there...
The funny thing about text is that it rarely transmits the proper emotions of the writer. If there was a joke in any of the text, it was lost in translation. The fact is, I am actually extremely intelligent and street smart but how could you know that and I even have a sense of humor (required with 8 children) :)

1: is this movie funny???
2:is it based in bagdad or is it just screwing with are mines?
3:is it in australia?
4:why is this movie in a comedy section when you guys are saying this is a sad movie!!?
yehimpolish 2 years ago
1. The movie has wit, and moments of drama and sadness . . . just like life.
2. It takes place at a small restaurant/motel not far from Bagdad, California, off of I-40, east of Barstow, CA.
3. See previous answer.
4. The film ends on an uplifting and life affirming note, after all the emotion and drama.
BobStone1907 2 years ago
1. yes its funny
2. its in bagdad NV usa....
3. thus.....not australia
4. it not a sad movie.....its very uplifting.....someone out there loves YOU!
