This is the liver fluke (Fasciola hepatica) which occur mainly in herbivore. The adult flukes live in the bileducts and the juvenile in the liver parenkyma. The fluke has a indirect life cycle, it has to enter a aquatic mollusc. The juvenile are the most patogenic, they destroy the liver, cause edema and liver failure. The adult flukes result i hyperplasia of ducts, which can reduce the colloid osmotic pressure and give edema (submand, ascites++). Strongly infected animals can also get anemic.
