Yeah... well I couldn't hear myself literally at all, so I was doing my best to keep my ear to the amp. It was kind of a disaster, so I was just kind of glad I made it through the set, honestly.
If by "Byrd", you mean Charlie Byrd, then maybe, I haven't heard much of him. I do know he's a Guitarist. but if you mean Charlie "bird" Parker (Note the I), then no, not really. His style is often emulated by probably every saxophonist ever, but rarely is it done well.
To the drummer. Too many crashes on 1. Be more ambiguous with where you're placing the beat. Crossing bar lines is a good thing. It starts to sound really square if you're playing on 1 all the time. Leave that to Rock drummers.
Tempo doesn't really apply to what tools you use on trap set. I use brushes when I play a tune like Have You Met Miss Jones or any other kind of up-tempo ballad or standard. I think if the drummer had some nice Evans coated batter heads and some wire brushes, it'd actually sound pretty cool. What he did was good too, though. Nice playing overall.
It would've been better for the drummer in the beggining to use brushes...but the sax had a really nice solo. I prefer double bass on this stuff, but electric works too. Nice guitar solo.

I don't like the sound of the electric bass in this context. Tasty playing though.

I think somebody got "clapping cold feet" or something like that.
I'm like that all the freakin' time. I always clap when no one else feels it necessary and then feel like a dipshit.

very nice copying of byrd...
copying isn't exactly the right word: you imitate his style perfectly.

i HAVE A question .. is this BEBOP style of jazz?
dianysronaldo17 3 years ago
Pretty much.... it doesn't really have bebop changes, but I would still say so since it's Charlie Parker.

thanks!!!

The question is, why in the world wouldn't you use brushes on a fast blues? I think it's very hip.
