you guys i have had many gerbils so i know what i am doing they do not have to have sand to bath in they rarley ever use them the tnk is fine fsince they will be sold soon they are not being abused.so back off remember this at a pet store where they are keep there for a few days
The gerbils look awful. ;( The golden one looks sick.
They need a large bowl of fine sand to take a bath and take care of their coat.
The aquarium is too small for them an the cluster of litter is very small too.
My english is not adequate enough for a correct discussion, but I hope that gerbils-keeper will collect better information about the requirement of their pets BEFORE they buy this wonderful animals.
@NingyoAijin There are several things you could do here. First, try leaving a large glass of water out for 24 hours (uncovered). A lot of stuff evaporates from it during that time, namely chlorine which could be part of the problem. Secondly, gerbils don't drink much; I have 2 and although I change their water at least twice a week, they hardly ever go through any more than half of the small bottle. So you could use bottled water if you want without spending much at all. Good luck.
@GerbilDiaries I read somewhere that aspen is bad for them. I do not use pine bedding anymore because I also read that it is bad for them. Sand is alright, but it's very difficult for them to burrow in according to a gerbil site/forum that I read when looking up bedding for my gerbils. So yes I did some research. The cardboard I have that is shredded is very thin strips so they can burrow in it fine. I put in a few inches so there is plenty of burrowing space.
Do not use sand. Do not use aspen. The best is shredded cardboard and Carefresh. Pine is okay -- my family used this growing up with our rodents before we knew it was bad. Gerbils are from the desert -- do you find lettuce in the desert?
@CrossoverBeast It's not an appropriate size. He's reffering to what a gerbil really should be in, not to what pet shops provide. Most pet shops never provide the CORRECT sized living enviornments because they all want to be money grubbing corporations. So, technically for the "pet shop guidelines" it's the exact size cage, but for gerbil owners and anyone else who actually cares about them it is to small, because infact it's not big enough to hold those gerbils, so all of you stop your whining.
i really don´t know were your from but the cage is toooooo smaaall my darling water and food goes without saying in a pet shop do you live in the outback? :D
that mice look sick and it is animal abuse if you would have a little bit of intelligence and intellect you would know i´m right .. villigeboy :P
That aquarium is too small for 3 gerbils! I have 4 gerbils, 2 in a 20 gallon aquarium, and 2 in a WARE Chewproof Cage. Those are roomy, and great for gerbils
@BalletBecca they're just babies atm. They're only small. Hopefully they'll move them into a larger tank by the time they grow older, but for now they'll do fine there.
@rodentlover2000 gerbils are sociable animals. When buying a gerbil, make sure to buy a same sex friend for him/her, otherwise you'll be swarmed with babies. Hamsters are solitary, but gerbils need a lot of attention. When on their own they get miserable. As with buying any animal, please read up on the breed. If you have any questions i'd be happy to answer. I've currently got 6 gerbils. If you don't have time for more than on please consider another species, thanks [:
you should still keep your hand there because they might just want to sniff you. I had gerbils and when
i first got them they looked like they were going to bite me but then I kept my hand there and they just sniffed me. If you keep your hand there and they still bit you, then you should wash your hands because they might think that you smell like food. Good Luck!!!!
the cage is REALLY too small!! i know you're a pet shop but even the gerbils in our german petshops have more place. and it's quite important to say: your gerbils don't look healthy!! the fur is scrubby. why isn't there any place to hide?
i agree totally with u reviewcam i've got a a pair of gerbils and they're tank is 2 feet long and a 1 foot deep and 1 foot high so loads of space for them to do what they want
:( The past few weeks I've watched many small pet videos (rat, mice, guinea pig, hamsters, gerbils, rabbits) and with few exceptions the cages are all really tiny.
I think I want a pet that I don't have to keep in a cage. Another cat.
i have a wire cage from critter tail, i know its not that good of a place to run but they have alot of tubes to go in, but we dont put so much bedding in since it will spill out if we put too much.
@horsegirl1232565 What does the tail look like? if you were putting pressure on the tail then it may have degloved - gerbils do this as a defense mechanism which is why you should never hold or put pressure on their tail. Degloving describes an injury in which the fur, skin, and muscle are torn off a gerbil's tail - leaving muscle and bone exposed. It can be VERY painful for the gerbil and the missing part will not grow back. you should take the gerbil to the vet! im sry dude!
@spikesan2211 my gerbil is black and its whole tail fur is ripped off and it grew back but not the tip is it good and i did not handle it by its tail i handle like u should
we have a tank but one of my gerbils keep getting out! we have a screen in place over it which is for the cage, size wize and sich. and there is no levels high enough for her to stand on to push it up.
@xenawp5 lol yes i do! no regret's their amazing i have 2 girls, only problem i have is that they kick their sawdust out alot but i have a little hoover to clean up after them :) aw goodluck! their really interesting i love watchin them dig and burrow
@DABIGGERBIL TF?? Um ASPEN, is one of the best as izzyrocks12 said. Idk what your saying. I use aspen for my Gerbils and there doing great, What not to use is pine and cedar! Never use that for hamsters or gerbils, Only other animals that it is safe for, sOOO Ohhhh
@StudioVibe Nooooot really. You can usually tell the difference when you have seen enough of them. Ive seen and owned enough to be able to tell that is definitely a ten gallon.

Pine is not okay bedding to use- it causes liver and respiratory issues. Those tanks are too small for multiple gerbils. A 20 gallon long tank is the bare minimum or purchase a tank topper for the smaller tanks (a cage that fits on top of the tank). Tanks provide little to no ventilation so make sure to clean them often! Tanks are not okay for most small animals but as gerbils do like to dig and burrow, the tank tends to be the best option for this.
