  • Stanley Holloway was the only member of the main cast to do his own singing.

  • Scene begins with Doolittle and his friends being thrown out of the pub:

    Get out of here!

Doolittle you get out too! Come on Doolittle!

And remember, drinks are to be paid for, or not drunk!

Ah-hah! Thanks for your hospitality George,

Heh! send the bill to Buckingham Palace, hah!

Well Alfie, if there's nothing else to do, I guess it's back to work!

What? Don't you dare mention that word in my presence again.

  • Look at all these poor blighters down there. ah-hah-hah-hah-hah

I used to do that sort of thing, just for exercise, hah-hah

Not worth it, takes up your whole day.

Ahhh, don't worry boys, we'll get out of this somehow

How do you think you are going to do that Alfie?

How? Same as always, faith, hope, and a little bit of luck.

  • The lord above gave man an arm of iron,

So he could do his job and never shirk,

The lord above gave man an arm of iron, but!

With a little bit of luck, with a little bit of luck,

someone else'll do the blinkin' work!

With a little bit, with a little bit,

With a little bit of luck, you'll never work!

  • The lord above made liquor for temptation,

To see if man could turn away from sin.

The lord above made liquor for temptation, but!

With a little bit of luck, with a little bit of luck,

When temptation comes you'll give right in.

With a little bit, with a little bit,

With a little bit of luck, you'll give right in.

Oh you can walk the straight and narrow,

But with a little bit of luck, you'll run amok!

  • The gentle sex was made for man to marry,

To share his nest, and see his food is cooked.

The gentle sex was made for man to marry, but!

With a little bit of luck, with a little bit of luck,

You can have it all, and not get hooked.

With a little but, with a little bit of luck, you won't get hooked.

With a little bit, with a little bit,

With a little bit of bloomin' luck!

  • They're always throwing goodness at you,

But with a little bit of luck, a man can duck!

The lord above made man to help his neighbor,

No matter where, on land or sea or foam,

The lord above made man to help his neighbor, but!

With a litle bit of luck, with a little bit of luck,

when he comes around, you won't be home,

  • With a little bit, with a little bit,

With a little bit of luck you won't be home.

With a little bit, with a little bit,

With a little bit of bloomin' luck!

Alfie, You'd make a good suffragette!

Ahhh! Why there's the lucky man now, the honorable Alfie Doolittle!

  • What are you doing in Eliza's house?

Her former residence, hah! you can buy your own drinks now, Alfie Doolittle!

Fallen into a tub of butter you have!

    What are you talking about?

Your daughter Eliza, oh you're a lucky man, Alfie Doolittle!

    Well what about Eliza?

Ahhh! He don't know, her own father, and he don't know!

Moved in with a swell Eliza has,

Left here in a taxi, all by herself, smart as paint!

But she says, never mind about sending any clothes. Hah-hah-hah-hah-hah! I knew she had a career in front of her. Andy boy, we’re in for a booze-up, The sun is shining on Alfred P. Doolittle.

With a little bit of bloomin' luck!

  • so catchy!

  • Who is the main the singer? :P Just wana know.

  • Corny as hell but I like it.

  • Why all the negative comments and arguing? If you don't like the actors/film, why bother looking it up?? "With a little bit of luck, you'll get aaaaa life"

  • i LOVE the old American accent. wish we still had it... )=

  • rex harrison did not do his own singing. He spoke his songs.... I thought this was a known fact but obviously some people have not got a clue. what they are talking about. Stanley Holloway was a master.

  • @cassianto Well let's give folks a break. You've got younger people coming up in the world who may have just seen MFL for the first time and have no idea. They either learn it here or read Harrison's biography. So kids Mr. Harrison had a range of 1 1/2 notes. He "talked on pitch" as he referred to his technique. He taught this same technique to Richard Burton when Burton did Camelot on Broadway. End of lesson.

  • Could this be the theme song for the DNC? :)

  • Stanley Holloway blew the two leads off the screen.

  • I love Alfred P. Doolittle he is a scoundrel and he admits it, no shame just honesty.

    How refreshing.

    Givin' me any Luck!

    If this gets on

    More, please shanmugamlakshmanan

Wiv a little bit of bloomin YouTube luck!

  • Stanley Holloway was perfectly cast. What a talent!

  • Stanley Holloway was the only member of the main cast to do his own singing.

  • @JuanMacready Rex Harrison did his singing too.

  • The talentless bald murderer Harrison didn't sing at all, he just talked his way through the songs.

  • @JuanMacready And that's how the role is traditionally played. It's the same with King Arthur in Camelot. It's an acting role, not a singing role.

  • @JuanMacready now I doubt he was a murderer...

  • @Cricketboy1200 He killed Carole Landis in 1948, ruining his Hollywood career.

  • @JuanMacready

If he ruined his Hollywood career in 1948 then I guess he didn't really win the best actor Oscar for My Fair Lady or appear in any of the other 30+ movies he starred in after 1948. Caron Landis committed suicide complete with suicide note. The way you harp on him and your accusations of homosexuality means that you must be a closet homo yourself.

  • @JuanMacready What a vindictive little person you!! Appollo 13, Tom Hanks was probably the least merited Oscar, & Forest Gump.

  • @JuanMacready actually Rex Harrison did his own singing, he was in the original broadway play

  • @BradKY2010 The talentless bald bisexual murderer Harrison did not sing at all, he only talked his way through the songs.

  • 'Love that little jig step at 4.40 - 4:45...!

  • great song...my english class hates this song and the movie...to much singing

  • this is like, the man's theme song :P

  • For great Mrs. Fry!

  • So this is what Mrs Fry watches in bed. Hmmm.

  • Thank you for sending me, Mrs. Fry.

  • The harmony in this song is simply great! I love this movie and Cockney accent!

  • This is one of the best songs of all time from My Fair Lady. I always wanted to sing this on stage

  • once of the best escene of the film Thanks for it

  • 3:34 How would you describe that sound?

  • I always listen to this song when I´m at my crummy cleaning job - and wish I had the guts of Alfie Doolittle :D

  • I had this whole soundtrack memorized as a child!

  • 1:21 : I adore his ballet! XD

  • I was honored to of gotten to know John Alderson, the taller of the three men in this scene.

RIP John. Miss you, my friend.

  • anyone know what the tempo marking for this song is?

  • 1/2

  • 2/2 )

  • What kind of hat is Alfie wearing?

  • we're doing 'my fair lady' in school-its going well :) :)

  • Showstoppers, all.

Those of you who think musical theater is in sorry shape these days, raise your hand.

  • No I saw "Oliver!" in Drury Lane and it's better than the film.

  • as sad it is that he dint care for eliza, i just cant help but say he's the best character in the play and the movie. one of Shaw's finest characters.

  • he makes the whole movie!!!! :)

  • Stanley Holloway was the only one in the entire film to do his own singing.

  • That's just plain not true, Rex Harrison not only did his own singing but refused to have it dubbed in later. He was the first Hollywood actor to have a hidden mic (in his tie) to pick up audio.

  • You're kidding, simply because you don't enjoy Harrison's style of singing doesn't mean he isn't singing. Are you seriously suggesting that "Why Can't The English?" and "I've Grown Accustomed To Her Face" are not songs but merely spoken word pieces with music in the background? Just admit you were wrong and move on.

  • Funny song!

  • Amazon have the 70mm restored version on DVD. Fantastic musical. My Uncle Dennis from Stepney spoke just like Alf!

  • If I remember the story that the musical was based on, "Alfie Doolittle" lived up to his name: "Alf, he do little!"

  • wow are you angry

  • Comment removed

  • @wolfattack402000 'Certainly hope you have calmed down by now and have not had an aneurysm...

  • You could never have a scene like this in a "family film" in our hoity-toity, sanctimonious era!

  • Not only you could'nt have the scene, but the whole movie! There's no talent to foster a classic as this.

  • @JohnRogersly This is one of my FAVORITE films!!!!!

  • I actually love the melody and the mood of this song. I love this actor- great job.

He captured the cockney perfectly too.

  • @alissarrr he WAS a cockney

  • lol from 1:03-1:10 they're doing the stroke-Billy Squire

  • Fantastic. There must have been half a dozen hits out of My Fair Lady. Stanley Holloway also sang "Get Me To The Church On Time".

  • this is the best version on youtube

  • We are watching this in Literature Class.

  • Trancayàs Cataplàs!! A l´estiu,tota cuca viu

  • I had this stuck in my head, and I wanted to find the movie version. Thanks for posting!!!
