  • where did u get the pic at 2:29 i love it

  • As has been stated many times, thoroughbred horses are born and bred to RACE. That is what they LOVE to do. Just look at some of the videos of retired racehorses and how they run and run and run in their retirement "homes". Great racehorses KNOW they are "rock stars". They understand, and respond to, the attention they get from the media and race fans. Horses are not DUMB animals. Tragedies happen in EVERY sport, regardless of the participants, human or animal.

  • That's enough! Justifying a sport where we use animals to make ourselves bundles of cash... pushing theses animals beyond their physical limits and BREAK their bones...but then belittle it and say "just an accident" and there's no need to feel remorseful and apologetic towards the pain they experience directly because of our greed? Makes my stomach sick! Shameful

  • @love2learn4life

Not all people are like that, infact there are very few. I take that offensive. Most thoroughbred owners love and adore their horses, yes its sad for the ones who only do care about the money but you're saying they all are like that!

  • @love2learn4life two words for you Grow Up

  • Some absolutely ridiculous comments in here from people who don't know a damn thing about horse racing, including the owners, trainers, jockeys, and horses. "Apologize" for WHAT? An accident that happens a few times a year during the THOUSANDS of horse races that are run every year around the world? Go get a JOB, or do something that is USEFUL.

  • very good song. very good video. thanks.

  • 1:30 made me laugh but the rest...i made a new pacific ocean!!!

  • i <3 u barabaro i will never forget you .. <3

    keep on running <3

  • RIP Barbaro, you were a true champion!

  • @TheJKoKo Another racing un knowledgeable moron with an incorect opinion on our sport, your lung theory is totaly incorect, thats why people pre-reace their horses with "lasix" it prevents from anything happening to their lungs and provides for proper hi-speed breathing, and no there not being forced. its all they know, and they do enjoy competition, and whips, are barely felt on there thick hide. So shut the fuck up moron, and go save some chickens with peta

  • It really wasnt barbaro's fault he got hurt. If he didnt love what he did he would have never agreed to enter a racecoarse. Sometimes racing is cruel, but if a horse wants to run, let em run! I just think horse racing should start when a horse is 3 or 4, thats all.

  • The people who hate horse racing so much shouldn't be watching HORSE RACING videos.

Show some respect for the sport you're /watching/.

  • @greyarabian123 Mayb I missed some comments, But People do love horses & love them to race. But when they breakdown (especially at an earlier age, its very heartbreaking. Everytime a horse goes out too race u dont know if its coming back sound or possibly had too b put down, Unfortunately its the chance u take. Look over the yrs so many champs had their lives cut short. & yeah it might b pathetic, but I do care I still shed tears over Phar Lap, Ruffian, Barbaro, Eight Bells, & plenty more.

  • it's a shame that this beautiful animal had to die for humans entertainment.

  • @homiez4u and his entertainment

  • @thunderbird2341 true! :(

  • @thunderbird2341 true :(

  • @TheJKoKo I love horses, but I didnt really want to read that.

  • I am utterly disgusted with Michael Matz. In his previous sport, Grand Prix show jumping, a horse was considered green at 8 years. He knows full well that a 2 year old's bones aren't ready for this abuse. I'm so ashamed of him. I don't know how he sleeps at night. Horse racing is a disgusting sport and Barbaro WOULD want people to fight for the rights of the horses that are left behind to race before they're ready. Stop acting like Barbaro had a CHOICE in the matter and "loved what he did."

  • @horseA123 you are an idiot, another idiot whos never even looked at a racehorse upclose that thinks they can make assumptions of their mentality. These animals know nothing but of what they do, any other life besides the track would be weird for them, And why be disgusted with MAatz? he loved the horse, did a great job prepping him, if he didnt care for the animal how do you think he got to the derby? you sir are a fucking moron with no idea how racing works.

  • hey post that site or write me...on the mysterious man who may have injured Barbaro before the race please and thankyou...how sad...and wonder if they had video of him trying to hurt him..ughh...senseless

  • Im such a horse lover. Ever since I watched that fateful day, I havent stopped crying! I Love you and R.I.P. Barbaro!

  • I don't wanna read all of the comments on the argument but fighting over a horses death on a tribute to Barbaro isn't right. I feel like crying until i come don and read some of the comments and it ruins the video. Barbaro would want us to respect him, not diminish the sport he so rightfully was amazing at.

  • @sunflowermaze you are so right horse love to run but when we froce them for money until they die ill miss barbaro and poor eight bells

  • Horses run their heart out for us. We put their lives on the line for the sake of money and they give us their all. They run until their legs break and their hearts burst. God bless horses.

  • HEY HEY HEY!!! PEOPLE CUT IT OUT!!!!!! this is saD BUT YOU people NEED TO CUT IT OUT! ANNDDDDD,......... R.I.P Barbaro

  • @thedemonzozo -

    Fuck you.

  • I miss Barbaro so much. He was one of my favorite racehorses. I will miss him a lot. RIP BARBARO.

  • If horses were Killed for meat then we can't do ANY of this without them.

They are used for working cattle. They are also used for riding to check fences.

Horses (or mules) are still used by some people for plowing small plots of land, because horses compact the soil much less than tractors do. Horses are also used for hauling logs in some sustainable timber operations, because horses have a much smaller "environmental footprint" in forested areas than motor vehicles do.

  • This would have never happened if the fuckin vet knew what the hell he was doing....he didnt even look at the hind legs...and what doesn a horse push off of with all thier force starting out of the gate!?!?! Thier hind legs.... i cried so hard when I saw that...props to the jockey for pullin him up that quick though :'( :'(

  • @thedemonzozo You are a SICK PERSON. How dare you think about Barbaro that way ?! You need to leave because that offended me greatly and it broke my heart to know that you have no heart and to say that on a page that is full of Barbro fans. You are one sick bastard.

  • @SecretariatFanForeva Americans are cry babys and eat fat foods like beef and pork. They eat lots of candy too. This is why they are fatasses. Horse meat is very good for you. It has many nutrients. It is very delicious too. Their fear in the slaughter process makes it this way. It is very important and must happen to cleanse the meat. I eat this meat a lot. I am very healthy. This was waste of money to try to save this horse. It should have been taken to slaughterhouse for the meat.

  • @thedemonzozo Dude your nothing but an ass hole...like who the hell says that kinda shit?Barbaro was way more than a piece of meat...there is no doubt who could have won the triple crown and he would have been the first to do it in what? 40 years...

  • @thedemonzozo fuck off bitch! there are other meats in the world u can eat that are healthy! horses are not bread to be eaten u sick devil from hell!

  • @thedemonzozo Wow. You're one sick fucktard. I'm Australian and yet I find it offencive you are critisizing Americans. You get raped by a shark you sick bastard. Eating horse meat is just plain wrong, why would you eat it anyway? The fear in the slaughter house does not cause the meat to be like that you ass fuck eating horse meat is just plain wrong, its for dogs, Its not a waste of money to save the horses. Most horses turn out to be champions, Milton, Barbaro and that. You're worthless not them

  • @thedemonzozo Damn right we're fatasses!! And damn right I'm proud. Get over the fact that we can take down your country any minute. Now, get in the kitchen and make me a fucking sandwhich, bitch! >:D

  • @SecretariatFanForeva i agree fully

  • @thedemonzozo Watch ur mouth u sick person, and watch wat goes in it! HORSES ARE NOT BREED TO BE EATEN!

  • @thedemonzozo are you an idiot! -.- you know what the tragedy is we barbo lovers can't kick you in the face online!

  • @thedemonzozo YOU PEICE OF SHIT THIS MAD ME CRY SO MUCH I HAD A RAG TO WASH THEM AWAY AND YOU SAY THAT. IF I SAW YOU I WOULD RIP YOUR HEAD OFF YOUR BODY!!!!!! SO MANY PEOPLE LOVE BARBARO AND YOU HAD TO SAY ON HERE WERE ALL THE FANS ARE WE LOVE HORSES THE THING HATE MOST ARE HATERS OF HORSES LIKE U.

  • @thedemonzozo You said that just to pick fights and you know it. Although I strongly disagree with you, I won't fight over it because I know that 's just what you wanted. Get a life.

  • What a wonderful Jockey!!! he did a great thing.most stuck up jockeys would not care abou the horse , just the money... i praise the jockey for caring about the horse not just the money .... thats a true friendship.\

  • @MiniDreams77 anothering is that barbaro wanted to keep running after he hurt his leg, the jockey had to force barbaro to stop and had to get off fast to stop barbaro from running

  • @MiniDreams77 whats the name of his jockey?

  • It was actually better that the vets enthunized Barbaro, Otherwise he would have had to suffer more pain and surgery. The vets thought it would be best.

  • LINDO DEMAIS PARABENS AOS QUE POSTARAM O VIDEO...

  • Barbaro was truly a champion his life ended way too soon...love you big guy..

  • some people say they only tried to save him for the stud fees but i dnt believe that put a thumbs if you think they saved him because they loved him, cuz thats what i think

  • @caranger918 They saved him because they loved him and the fact that it was on nbc...if it wasnt on such a national stage he would have probably been put down much sooner

  • @MrKillBill12 seriously dude??

  • @MrPhoenix30 You got any other explanations? Seriously dude??

  • this video hurts me why does it always have to happen to the good ones?? i mean i dont want it to happen to any of them but its always the good ones it happens to ugh its just so sad i thank the jockey for making him stop and his owners wow they had to of spent sooo much money on him when they knew it wouldnt be a could outcome im not religious but god bless them they actually spent they money on there race horse and so many others wouldnt have RIP barbaro we will miss you!!!!!!

  • All the horses who's lives ended on the track Died doing what they loved most ... RACING,,You should honor them for their spirit ,And the life they lived not bitch about how it ended..

  • poor barbaro he was only 4yr old wen he was put down how sad :( ive a felebella that bfroke is canon bone on the near hind right and ive treated him myself and doing grt thank god <3 shes still not out off the woods but a lot better :) x

  • I'm sick of people blaming horse racing... Barbaro would've chosen his life if he could. Except from the way he died, Barbaro loved what he did. Racing was part of him, in his blood and filled his head. Without racing, Barbaro would've been miserable. It was his life! His death was unfortunate and unlucky, but what could anyone have done differently to save him? Unlike many things, Barbaro's death wasn't our fault.

  • @horsesrmylife78 I wouldn't exactly BLAME the horse racing. But just think, they want the youngest colts & fillies. ANY horse shouldn't be running top speed,turf/dirt,and over a mile until there past 2,or 3. But most of the horses you see actually racing, are 2,3,4. The training takes a good two years..,meaning,their bones weren't grown right,or weakend while training. The oldest horse i've ever seen race, was 5 years old.Perfect example,is ruffian most of the accidents COULD'VE been prevented.

  • @Cosmeticsx True, you definitely have a point there. Horse racers should start training later, so that the horses are full-grown and their bones are where they belong. Riding a horse that young must be stopped, but that really is the only change I would make to horse racing. The rest is truly the horses enjoying what they do and having fun. They just need to grow up a bit more first. :)

  • @horsesrmylife78

I'm will you all the colts and fillies should begin training and racing when their bones are stronger

  • @horsesrmylife78

I'm will you all the colts and fillies should begin training and racing when their bones are stronger and their a bit older too

  • @horsesrmylife78 the investment is too expensive for them to wait that long. that's the bottom line.

  • @DarkHorseDream That's the bottom line for everything... *sigh*

  • i didnt think that racing was so bad until i heard of Barbaro :( That is just not fair that poor horse! Was he olnly 4?? :( Horses can do it but they shouldnt be allowed to, theyre such beautiful creatures and they shouldnt die in this way :(

  • people can we stop talking about whch race horse is better there all the same there equal everyone knows about all of them even eight belles THERE ALL THE SAME GIVE THEM A CHANCE!!!!

  • Let's not forget that thoroughbreds LOVE to run. It is what they are built and bred for. Yes, there are irresponsible and dastardly people in the horse racing business, but they are the exception to the rule. DNA plays a huge part in how sound a thoroughbred is physically. The vast majority of "quality" race horses who have had catastropic breakdowns have ONE thing in common: bloodlines traced back to a horse named NATIVE DANCER.

  • he was one of the best horses in the world and now hopefully his brother Nicanor can fulfill his hopes and dreams and that Nicanor can win the triple crown for his brother Barbaro. R.I.P Barbaro forever in my heart. I wish that that didn't happen and that you had a second chance. He fought so hard but sadly he had to be put down and sadly it was like 4 months before his 4th birthday.

  • i wish him and Ruffian had a second Chance!! its just NOT fair!

  • @9showjumper i think ruffian was better tha Zenyatta b/c ruffian was gonna beat em all!!

  • Hes was such a sweet animal who just looked like hes always was having fun.His owners trainer jockey and all his caretakers all seem to really love him.He raced with such great pride and grace it is so unfair he had to die doing something he enjoyed so much. Why do these terrible things happen its just not right.Take care barbaro enjoy your free running in heaven

  • My sister told me that he would've lived from his leg, but just as he was healing, he got a horrible hoof disease. It wouldn't have killed him either, but by that point, Barbaro was so depressed that they put him down. Poor boy!

  • poor poor horse the raceing world is horrid i have an x racer who they were guna shot wot a stste he were in when i had him

  • I miss seeing his face, seeing his power stride. watching him fly. his face lighting up. his legs in flight. why did he have to go :'(

  • This horse was amazing! I belive He is one of my favs!

  • testing my new picture

  • I always knew that there was something more to it!

  • The best!!

  • I miss him so much! I reamember watchin the race and saw that accident and i cried the day i heard that they uthanized him... He was my favorite racer... R.I.P Barbaro

  • @friends4ever30 same here!!! :(

  • Don't worry only the good die young!

  • he was a amazing animal!!! to bad he didnt have a chance to show them what he really had inside!!! :'/

  • ive got to do a plauy infront of the whole school tommorow and i will just think about babaro and all the best racers out there and i have to race tommorow against the fastetst person in the school he is very fast he runs up to 29miles an hour serously

  • awh, ):

  • so sad

  • what happen to his back hoof :( is it just like ruffians story :C

  • ruffian and barbaro are not overrated and they get attention because they were special and they poured everything they had in racing. they died champions. they werent just ANOTHER horse no they were american symbols of racing. watch their races ruffian was undefeated and barbaro was unbelievable. they raced with their hearts. so keep your comments to yourself if they are going to be bad. those horses will always remain in our hearts because they tried til the end r.i.p barbaro and ruffian

  • What music? Barbaro♥♥♥ R.I.P =(

  • This is really sad I loved him I live close enough to walk to fair hill where he lived so it really hurts because everytime i see fair and the race track

  • Sarah:

He wasn't just ANOTHER horse. He poured his heart and soul into his racing. He loved it. It was what he was meant to do, and you could tell. He made his name for himself. He didn't just die, but as a fighter.

  • @ Sarah- You are just SO wrong with your comments. What all horse people Including myself saw in this horse was something amazing in the making, and I am not only talking about the DERBY!. Watch his races, he was so professional, and everybody knew he was going to be one of the GREATS!. So YES he does deserve the attention. not to mention his fight to heal, and stay alive!. Rachel alexandra??, how about eight Belles who in my opinion is a better filly, and Zenyatta who is the Queen of ALL!.

  • poor boy, he had to die for the humans...

but he died as a fighter, a hero and a wonderful pretty boy

  • Yes Barbaro was great, but why give him extra attention?Ruffian and Barbaro have to be some of the most over rated horses of all time. They were good, but that doesn' mean they should get so much extra attention because they died. Let them Rest In Peace, and enjoy the greats of today like Rachel Alexandra.

  • @Sarahthesullivann i have to say i agree with you there. i know a horse, i rode him often, and he died becuase his owner pushed him to jump too high, run too fast and he died. no one made a big deal and made tributes for him now did they?

millions of horses die every year. So he could run fast, he was born with a huge heart, that is the reason. hes not any more special than any other horse.

yes it was sad, but alll horses are equal.

  • @Sarahthesullivann

Not overrated at all. Many good things have happened because of the legacy these two great racehorses left. Barbaro won the Kentucky Derby by the largest margin in 60 years. Gary Stevens (retired Hall of Fame jockey) said he thought we were looking at the next Triple Crown winner, because Barbaro was that good. Ruffian was undefeated when she hurt herself, as was Barbaro. Many equine veterinarian advancements have happened because of these two. Not overrated at all.

  • @erz213

I'm sorry but I think she might have meant, that Barbaro is gone. So is Ruffian. While people are grieving over him, she wants us to look at the TB champs we have today. Life Goes On, and you cannot change that. Also many of other brilliant stars where shattered. Ferdinand,Exceller,Landaluce,Pine Island,Prairie Bayou,George Washington. Etc. These two aren't the only ones who had wanted a life to live.

  • @queenluciaa I appreciate your response, but have to disagree. Her words were pretty harsh. I was at Pimlico, that day. It was a horrible experience. Today I am part of an elite group, the FOBs (Fans of Barbaro), so named by Gretchen Jackson). We have raised over $1,000,000 for laminitis research, and the Barbaro Gift Fund; and rescued more than 3,500 horses. I loved Ruffian too. She was just getting started. I do believe Zenyatta is here to finish what Ruffian set out to do.

  • @erz213

Zenyatta is her own self, she has nothing to do with a mare that live 40 years ago. But Barbaro got to live the rest of his life, 7 months in peace and in a field of green. Most horses don't get the privelage he got. I see it more of a happy ending, he was fat and had tons of love.

  • @queenluciaa He lived 8 1/2 months, was not fat, and had some happy days. He was not allowed to be fat as that may have brought on laminitis sooner. He was in a stall for the most part. Horses with weight problems have the potential for laminitis, as Secretariat did, and that's why he had to be euthanized at an early age because of laminitis. You are entitled to your thoughts about Zenyatta, I said what I believe. She reminds me of Ruffian, color, talent, and all. And Ruffian was a filly.

  • You know, you have to give a hand to Edgar Prado, for being able to realize something wasn't right, and pulling him up immediately. It gave them a chance to save Barbaro. Unfortunately, it didn't work out. I just hope he went to a place he can run all he wants, we love him to do death. RIP Barbaro.

  • @Theaterman527 The grief on Edgars face was just horrible to watch. But he saved Barbaro that day, and gave him a chance.

  • this show is amazing. its weird tho he died when he was 4. like Ruffian she died when she was 4 years old. whats going on with these famous race horses die on the age of 4? it don't make sence?

  • @DeerJumper101

Ruffian died when she was 3. Barbaro died when he was "legally"4, but not

biologically; he was injured at 3. You don't hear about the horses who die at 2, because with very rare exceptions, they aren't famous yet. (The great filly Landaluce who died of an infection being an exception.) As far as dying at 4 (or 3), many of the great racehorses, intact males esp., simply don't race beyond 3 or 4. So if a "famous" racehorse dies while in training, it probably IS at 3 or 4.

  • this is gotta be like my favriote race horse and song nice video :D

  • beautiful video! i still miss him soo much! he was soo amazing!!

    R.I.P Barbaro ~*~*~ Forever in my Heart~*~*~

  • One amazing race horse.

It's amazing how many people loved barbaro all the fans, and the get well cards while he was at the equine hospital. Very sad that he was put to sleep, and had the painful injury.

    RIP barbaro.

  • :52 Barbaro says "Ow! That hurts! I have to keep going, can't stop, shake off the pain... keep going!" I was there when it happened... havn't gone to a race since...

  • Truly one of the greatest horses of all time. Not just in terms of his racing, but in terms of the way he got into the hearts of Americans all across this great land.

  • RIP Barbaro ! We Love You <3

  • his death devastated me sooo much that i haven't watched the preakness since

  • And where is that man, who didn't have to be there?

  • it was a very nice video, i don't like seeing animals being put down for any reason and he was such a YOUNG horse that he didn't deserve to die, he had his whole life ahead of him! I cried during the video becuase it reminded me of having to put down oreo my cat since (8 weeks -3 years) becuase some people who will not be named(live on our street) had shot at him and hit him with a car and left him for dead in our garage. Still brings tears when i talk about it. =(

  • ok hun plz leave this person alone i was there the day it hapend it washeartbreaking to c a horse in pain ... ur parents have failed U greatly.

  • whats ur problem to u realize how much Edgar Prado and owners/trainers loved that horse do you know anything about him??? or are you too concieded to listen to anything/anyone?

  • Yes i do.

There is this picture on google of this guy and it just has somthing to do wiv Barbaro and it like shows when he broke out of the gate and what not.

  • sorry bout that it was supposed to go to a comment that said Edgar was a cruel little man and should die or somehting like that it was to offend you in any way

  • I feel bad for the poor horse. I was watching the race when he was hurt on tv and Let me tell you both me and my mom were crying. RIP Barbaro

  • Baby Boy i miss you DEARLY!!! I love & miss you barbaro

  • When Barbaro passed, the whole nation sat down, cried, and went into a deep depression. Just goes to show "depression" isn't just stocks and Wall Street, it's the heart of the US losing a piece of itself.

    Written by me.

RIP Barbaro - Secretariat - And all the others...
