  • The lyrics are very telling. I hope I die before I get old too. I have seen younger people mistreat or just be rude to older people. Can't wait til they get to the same age.

  • Um, guys, I don't think they are saying they are turning them into super-cool pop stars...the point of it is that it's a different view, it's to teach us something. It's not so that they can be cool...it's the message.

  • Keywords: trike gong show...

now THIS is a unique twist on "my generation"

  • what the video tells us is: When I get that on in life, I can still kick some ass!

  • i agree older people should not be marginalized! peter is a superstar in a lot of ppls eyes.

  • Meh!!!!!!. Im glad there sticking up for them selfs, really i am - but i don't think it warrents turning old people into Super cool pop stars

  • So it's only the young people who get to do that is it? But seriously the idea of the video is about raising the profile of the plight of elderly people who are often forgotten, neglected, and ignored and this has worked quite well so far I reckon.

  • the thing is old people no offense cant really belt it out u no wat i mean. thats y younger ppl are the ones who get to be pop starts i agree with gothis just cuz they have a class a studio and a great band backing them really doesnt make them good im glad theyre doing this but i have to agree with gothic

  • travman your have entirely missed the point of this video.

It is not about making old people famous or into "super stars" at all. It is about raising awareness of the problems they face in society.

Its the same as saying that world vision is simply trying to turn people from poor countries such as in Africa into super stars by showing videos of them on tv. It just simply isn't the case.

  • I'm from the States, and my wife is from Japan. I think this problem of older people being marginalized is worldwide. In Japan, there's probably a bit more care and attention given for older people, but even there things are beginning to slip.

Folks need to see that old people aren't simply "a bit similar to us", they *are* us (only a bit older is all).

I am he as you are he as you are me and we are all together.

  • I agree entirely - "old people" disturbs me though..

  • geil tu kabre harrysbar? :D

  • Look , Im Jeannie ,the O.A.P. of DRAG been doing it longer than you lot,and when I perform I bring the house down,I ,yes ME, should be the lead singer in this lot , BUT NOBODY ASKED ME. Ditch the singer and instate me as the NEW singer..... then youll get a number one thatll go on for weeks.

  • Bringing up the treatment of the older people no matter where you live is way over due. There is so much to learn from elderly in many ways. For them to be treated as they are is a world wide shame.

  • I Can safely say one thing.

I Wont be able to sing like that when im 75 odd.

  • say did your balls drop low

  • the zimmers...it has been a long time commiong..but the wait was worth every decade!!..peter towsend had it right..he just didn't know about what...BBC did it up "to the nines"..and the zimmers did it better.

  • I agree, This is brilliant. It makes me ask the question, "What could I do as an individual to help improve our elders quality of life here in the USA ?"

  • good call.

  • ^ _ ^ Nice, I like.

  • The Zimmers really aren't that good...

But at least they get money for it.

Hey, The Monkees got away with it.

  • andyboy660... it aint about them being good theres a message behind it if you can get that into your head jeez...

  • Why make music when no-one enjoys it but everyone goes 'aww, at least it goes to anti-cancer, meningitis, childline, africa, iraq, poverty in general, salvation army, multiple sclerosis....

Yes, these are terrible burdens on society. BUT WHY SING 'MY GENERATION' WHEN YOU'VE NEVER EVEN HEARD IT BEFORE?

  • you got do everything for the first time in life at somepoint, even making lame ass comments like yours :P

  • look you dumb 17 year old..never heard it before? we were there when it was first performed..you never heard it before..you think B.Spears is old...pull your pants up and stop wanking..and read a book and stop dissing your elders.....soon you go to Iraq..

  • Deary me.

    I'm English.

I'm glad you're older than me.

It's quite obvious that Britney Spears is past her career, and therefore, in the eyes of scrutinising society, she's past it. Sorry.

Read a book? Heh, it's funny, as I've read 2 french books in the last month to keep up with my studies. As well as the novels, etc, of English Literature.

I'm not dissing my elders. I just think they're killing a good song. :)

  • Stop being a douche and bumming your elders out little man. They're doing the song justice for a great cause and no one gives a shit what you're reading right now. ;-)

  • your a lil tit andy... there realy stickin up for themselves and I think/KNOW that they sound great

  • In this day and age, many people discard their elderly family members like garbage. They need to be cherished, loved and appreciated for who they are regardless of their age. Of course your gonna get crabby old people, but you get crabby middle-aged/young/toddlers too! So lets appreciate people for who they are, not how old they are!

  • Spot on comment.

  • The Zimmers are coming your way! Three key members including the lead singer, Alf, will be making a guest appearance in a Santa Monica bar early evening on Tuesday 5 June. Watch this space for details!

  • 10/10 Well done to the wrinklies

  • well done for alll the oap of the world round of applause i bought it and love it

  • Having just retired from working in the elderly care field, which I worked in for many years. What I saw last night on B.B.C.T.V. highlights what has been an ongoing problem. Elderly people in many different scenarios are undermined and undervalued. Lets hope we can raise the profile even more and give this generation a much better standard of life. Congratulations to all who took part in the program and good luck with the recording.

  • I've just seen the BBC program and like the others cried with laughter and sadness, My Grandad suffered like many others in a Res Care Home and I wish The Zimmers every success in not only their record but with the message they are sending about how they are treated. Government have to review their policies, how is it that criminals and abusers have more rights in this country than people who have fought to save our country? Will be buying the cd tomorrow!

  • My girlfriend and I have just finished watching the third in the series and truly wish we had seen the first two episodes. Well done to the BBC and to everyone involved with this programme. I truly hope things get sorted out within the industry, the government are letting the people down...they wouldn't want it to be their parents/ grandparents. I really hope this project is a huge success and wishe everyone of The Zimmers good health, happiness and a number 1 single!!! YOU ROCK!

  • here in ireland well done to all involved in the programme had me in tears and laughter so sad watching these ppl treated like this in homes all my love to everyone

  • PHAILED

  • just watched the BBC programme. It moved me to tears and made me howl with laughter. Well done to all concerned now lets get these care homes sorted. Our older ones need far better care.

  • Fantastic, I am an Australian & have emailed this video to all my friends & reli's telling them they have to see it. Well done.

  • shutup with the whole how were gonna get it worse! yeaah, dsnt mean you shouldnt care for the people who are getting it bad now. i think they rock! best of luck xxx

  • this somg is gratwe stop being rude about it people yopu wont like it when your old any way just seen the tv program!!! so spred the link to the song put it every where go on

  • Old farts of the world unite, you have nothing to lose but your zimmer frames.

  • Think you said what needed to be said! Hear Hear!!!

  • fantastic - go the oldies!!!!!

  • So have I, I think its brilliant, I hope I'm as "hip" when I'm that age

  • Haha i just watched it too!

  • Just watching this on BBC news. Anyway you think you got it hard? Spare a thought for us, it's gonna be horrendous when we are old.

  • of course it will be horrendous if no one does anything about the situation god bless you the zimmers

  • i work in a nursing home and we have a lady who is 107 and still knows how to have fun no point in wasting your life have fun till the end

  • Of course people will have fun in many different ways as they get older, the point of the Zimmers video is to highlight the lack of opportunity for many people who have retired to have fun in their lives. The fact that pensioners are treated worse in the UK than in most of the EEC is but one of a myriad of issues here.

  • Don't despair. In forty years people will look back and say how well the old were treated in 2007. Our future is dark, very, very dark.

  • dude the point of this is to make it better for old people our future will only be darrk if we do nothing about it. and that was totaly awsome also.

  • Kind of sad that people are making such a big "age" issue out of this. A group of elderly people having fun, and embracing new technology, rather than rotting at home/in a nursing facility being bitter and longing for the past - they should be applauded. They have the ability to laugh at the stereotypes associated with their age. Good work.

  • Most old people are just young people who hung out for a long time!

  • I LOVE THOSE PEOPLE! KEEP ON ROCKIN!!!

  • im american but BBC is sweet, the UK is gonna be the StrongHold of Humantiy when the aliens come btw, so start fortifying it!

  • I like the way the plight of some old folk is highlighted in the work of Little Britain artists;

especially the lady who is incontinent, and who we see go to her own doctor and is not offered help even then.

    cheers.

    from,

    del.

  • I love your comment your right on the money. It's about time that people started respecting their elders and stop writing people off. I loved it and I can't wait to buy it and see more. :)

  • I agree, but respect is a two way street. Elderly people need to respect the youth of today, just as much as youth need to respect their elders.

  • saved it to my favorites and loved every minute of it

    rundoe in TX

  • wait....wut?

  • Awesome! I 100% agree...I'm an American, considered to be a major asshole of the Earth, but BBC is right on!

  • This is a great cause. Here in Canada old alot of old people are in very poor conditions and it is often set aside too focus on young people.

  • Good for u!!!! right on!

  • your in there!!! at the 1 minuite mark~~!!!~~~

  • absolutely right and, cannot disagree

  • you're absolutely right. well said.

  • I LOVED this video. My father died prematurely from complications from what would now be called Alzheimers and my mother, a stroke victim, has been in a care home for 6 years and barely knows who I am. A truly worthwhile cause that the BBC is touting.

  • i agree withyou tottaly

  • My apologies to anyone I offended, I believe this is a wonderful project and hopefully it will begin to change things for the better for our elderly citizens everywhere, I just felt strongly that elderly musicians should've been a part, however, I was informed that wasn't possible due to the constraints and complexities of producing this wonderful work. Keep up the good work.

  • The record executive for the project replied to my rants supporting elderly musicians. He said the entire project came together in less than a week and the band just happened to be in the studio and it was a spontaneous decision made amidst the complexities and time line of production. That is a reasonable decision however they might've gotten Gran to belt out a piano solo, dontcha think. All the best with the this.

  • Yes Harry, I agree with you- its not about geriatric1927. But I think the fact that he is there helps promote the awareness of his cause. Pete is a spokesman for old age, if you will. We young people like to attach a face to a cause, making it all the more personal.

  • I thought I saw him on the video! I am the geriatric who appeared on Eggheads last night!

  • Why didn't they get some elderly musicians to play, the fact that they use young musicians is demeaning to the elderly, its saying "you can sing the nice little song but don't touch the guitar Grampa, its electric you might hurt yourself." The people WHO wrote the song are almost senior citizens now, like why get a bunch of kids to play the music, its offensive.

  • Llerdy you just want to be controversial don't you! This video is part of the BBC campaign to raise awareness about the plight of old people in Britain today and should be seen in conjunction with the programme that is being broadcast in May, at the same time as the record is released with all profits going to Help The Aged. Also what could be better than young and old working together?

  • Sure its a great project and I support it, yet I'm standing up for the elderly myself saying they are capable talented and accomplished musicians able to play their instruments well. Using young musicians seems hypocritical and totally contrary to the message they are trying to convey. To some people using young musicians seems demeaning, patronizing, ignorant and hypocritcal. SUPPORT OUR YOUNG MUSICIANS toss Charlie Watts to the curb.

  • Maybe the old folks don't know how to play the instruments in the manner of the Who.

  • Last time I checked THE WHO were old folks, don't give me that rubbish, the producers were able to get Abbey Road but couldn't get Sir George Martin or any old rocker musicians because they really don't think old people can actually play good enough and should not touch the musical instruments. Just toss them aside.

  • Oh, BOLLOCKS!!! You missed the point ENTIRELY!!!

  • XXX10OOO

Well I do think its a great project, I'm behind it but it does seem ironic if not hypocritical to trumpet the message that the elderly are capable talented and willing to be included, yet they are excluded from playing any instruments- then again it isn't important if the elderly are included or not if younger musicians can do a better job of playing the music. The important thing is it will help the aged, which is wonderful and noble.

  • Well said Llerdy!

  • Dear ll,

    Yes, you are right.

I can't imagine how old people could be seen as less talented than young people.

Most old folk are more independant than young folk; they have experience and practise on their side.

    Cheers.

  • Hm, not always, "sw1g". Some people grow old without really experiencing life at all, while some people experience more in their youth than others do in an entire lifetime... If this weren't true, how would we explain all the people that grow old with the inability to empathize with fellow human beings?

I agree though, that talent does not depend on age.

  • "i hope i die before I get old"

    ummmm...

    it means

I hope that when the time comes that I am no longer able to do young at heart things, that I would already have died, even of old age.

As though one has a choice to make of in fact being say only 27, bored and resentful, etc., and never having lived.

  • Thank you for illustrating my point so beautifully.

  • You have no idea do you? If ones reply seems to state. Do you even get it in your morbid state?

  • ur rude man

  • lol

  • fuck off on you old fucker :D:D:D

  • I bet you think that's funny. Well, have your fun, because the day will come when you feel a bit ashamed of such things. I know I do.

  • you stupid person you one day willbe old and you owe your freedom to these old people making that comment just shows that your a right nob

  • forgive him, he is from the eastern block and has been sheltered from the real world

  • Watch the original video to the end. The guy with the beard and hat has something to show you...

  • Anything that highlights the profile of the old and makes people receptive to their issues helps.

After all THIS IS YOUR DESTINY..you will be ONE OF THEM.

  • sorry i wasn´t writing this it was my crazy cousin he is crazy them are good

  • Its not just Britain bro, its everywhere. ;)

  • NICE ROBE !! luv it!

  • can you sing the song for us if you think its so good to do

  • My problem is that nowadays everyone wants to just highlight the problems and nobody wants to solve them. So what is your solution for the problems of the elderly? I guess you've got some ideas.

  • Well let's start with what Geriatric 1927 is doing and help encourage old people to get together and take some action. Also where I live 75% of the population are either at, approaching or already past retirement age. There are no jobs for young people so they move out to urban areas. The only growth area is care for the elderly. So more investment in real jobs by industry and govt plus proper levels of pensions and recognition that the elderly are people with lives to lead would be a start.

  • Thank you very much for such a great piece. We are too quick to forget and to ready to discard these fantastic people. Laughing and weeping. Hope that somebody will do a similar project with older Yanks, perhaps to Bowie's Young Americans!

  • It is also told use that never forget your parent .see....How many people now a day take their parents to the what what fucking old people house and not take care of them at all! Please bring your heart home, dont let them alone!(to the all people0

  • gmistera... words fail me, I hope you don't die before you get old.

  • you too, well done

  • lol i got to laugh when i read your comment but i must say: shut up man

  • lmfao

  • Great comments...lets see more songs like this!!!!

  • Peter, I would not have seen the Zimmers video but for you highlighting it in your video and I am so glad you did take part and had so much fun doing it. I will definitely be watching the BBC documentary when it comes out and will also buy the record. Keep on doing what you're doing for as long as you feel like doing it.

  • music is the best. Old Frank used to say. This people is stating their right to enjoy themselves no matter how old they might be. I'm 52, I'm a musician and I claim my riht to create entertainment and have fun for as long as I live. Absolutely great video. Well done BBC. That's a public service.

  • It really is a good cover, and I believe it will open people's eyes as to what happens to the older generations. (Im 14 by the way...)

  • Thanks for your thoughts. :)

  • Lovely response to a lovely video. Thank you for sharing your thoughts. :)

  • as a 14 year old, the video REALLY inspired me...& i sat there with a smile on my face all the way through...the bbc have really done something worthwhile with this...it captured the heart (:

  • Hi HarrysBar,

I agree with your comments, but it is not just older people in Britain, but also the US, and Australia.

I think the Simpsons have it right with Grandad - shoved off to the "Springfield Retirement Castle" and bought out when needed, with bizzare stories. It is satire, but sadly, it reflects many attitudes to the elderly.

Our older folk have experience and wisdom, worth little in a world of fast everything.

  • Maybe what we need is an international "My Generation". Whatever, It is true that the world has gotten so fast and people have little time for others, especially the elderly, so what the BBC have done here is a good start. I showed the Zimmers video to my three grandsons aged 15, 13, and 11 and they were knocked out by it. To see old people obviously enjoying themselves made them take notice. It's about being human rather than extensions of a machine like culture. Thanks for posting mt14l.:)

  • Thanks for your comments. It IS true, we have relegated our senior citizens to the back of society, and it's really good to see these fanitastic people poke fun of themselves in a way that brings them to everyone's attention. I'm a choral conductor, and have seen all kinds of music in my profession, but THIS is pure fun! God bless 'em, everyone!
