  • So far, the most useful thing I learned which can be applied to my future career is the difference between goals, objectives and strategies. Its really important to be able to distinguish between the three because they are essentially instructions on how to operate the company.

  • I also benefited a lot from the online readings on domain names. It is very important to keep the name of your website short, easy to read and easy to remember.

    Ammar A. - MGD415

  • I enjoyed the lesson we had on SWOT analysis and GOPST too. SWOT analysis is just as important as GOPST is. In order to set your GOPST right you first need to know your strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats. If you lack an understanding on the things you are good at, things you are bad at, things you could benefit from, and things that could stand in your way, then you’ll find it awfully hard to set your GOPST right.

  • GOPST is a great method to help us break down the task, especially in the future career. Another thing is that this course enlarges my vision about e-business. what I thought about E-business before is just a small part of it. In this field, there are thousands of potential opportunities for us to explore. The most important thing is that I realize that I can do more than I thought before. The awareness of opportunity and ability to achieve it are the most important things. MGD415 Sarah Lu

  • I forgot to mention my name and course number: Trisha Arocena, MGD415 UTM.

  • This course definitely stood out amongst other courses in this semester. I learned a lot of new and significant information, which I trust will help and benefit me somewhere along my career path. One particular topic that I enjoyed the most is the one about Biometrics. I'm fascinated with the new and improved technologies that many organizations are now garnering as a means to accomodate with specific business strategies. (i.e. face recognition for database input).

  • once you can see and listen. There were a few things that I found interesting. One is GOPST as mentioned numerous times. I found it to be useful not only in 415, but for other classes as well. It is a great tool to use to outline your train of thoughts in order to accomplish a particular task. The section on domain names was interesting, especially the introduction of new TLDs such as .mobi, This opens new avenues businesses can look at as more individuals use smartphones. • Looking back at MGD415 there were a few things that I found useful and interesting. First I found the wtgr site to be very useful, as it provided many tips to help guide our experience in the class. I found the tips section on how to study and write tests, as well as the tips on how to approach our GOPST assignment. I also found the supplementary videos on important concepts on the site to be very useful, as it is one thing to read it but it becomes easier to understand Premraj P MGD415 1/2

  • Since many of my colleagues decided to talk about the GOPST analysis, I will try to have a more "original" response and talk about what we have learned about scams in this class. It is very interesting how as scams get more complex and sophisticated, more elements of the truth are needed to create a better scam. Such is the case when we talked about "Spear Phishing" and "Social Engineering" in class. The prof's credit card theft stories were also very useful to know.

    Mohammed Macki- MGD415

  • I also submitted this as a video response, but just to reiterate I think that learning the GOPST analysis is invaluable. It is something students will apply after they have graduated if they want to start a business also it helps them critically analyze business proposals.

  • I love Prof.Richardson`s strategic thinking and vast knowldge applied troughout the course content on ebusiness tech.My take away from the course is the most foundatitional piece, GOPST. However, the learning about how to approach projects and use frameworks such as GOPST doesn`t stop.Along with GOPST, I learned a lot of useful tips on online security, trends and gadgets, domain names and looking forward to the group presentation.

  • I really like the lectures on m-commerce. I could see how this will be utilized in the future. For the instance the, NFC technology. I think this may shape how we shop in the near future. But it will be even better if they find a way to increase the range of NFC since it's only till 4cm atm. Like for an instance, we dont have to line anymore for purchasing tickets.

    Hazelle Florenci MGD415UTM

  • I found three concepts really useful, First is the GOPST, until i did my assignment i was so confused about goals and objectives i used the terms interchangeably but now i learned goals and objectives are two different things. The video about social engineering shown in class is something i will always remember and try not to get tricked by these social engineers. Lastly, guerilla marketing was interesting in how small companies do unusual things to get attention.

  • I found the topic on M-commerce and its uses very interesting in the course. It really got me thinking about the future and what I should expect. There are many possibilities and uses emerging with mobile phone and business, and this is something that everyone should keep an eye out for.

Also, you introduced us to Note Solutions, which I think is a very useful site. I have told many of my friends about it, and they find it very helpful with their note intensive classes.

    Jasmeet D- MGD415

  • The answer ended up being the sender putting a lock on the data and sending it to the receiver. The receiver then puts their own lock on it and sends it back to the sender. The original sender then takes off their lock and sends it back to the receiver who takes off their lock which then concludes the encryption and decryption process. I'll always remember this riddle and be sure to pose it to people in the future.

  • When I look back to MGD415, there are a few days that really stick out. One such day was when we spoke about encryption. Professor Richardson posed the riddle about how a piece of data could be sent between two individuals and remain secure. Many students attempted to guess how the secured data could be encrypted and decrypted and remain private between the two individuals...(to be continued)

My favorite topics are the new technologies trends, social engineering and GOPST. the new technologies trends allow me to understand how technologies have evolved and how it is going to affect our daily life in the future. I think GOPST is very useful in a sense that it helps me to further understand the tools we can use when developing a business plan or even personal plans.

    TIffany K-MGD415

  • I have gained a lot of insight into different topics that are related to E-business strategies by taking this course. The examples which precious students have given out are really helpful in understanding concepts such as viral marketing, social engineering and more. It enables us to understand how these concepts can be applied to our daily life.

  • I know this may sound unoriginal, but what I take away from this course as the most important and useful is GOPST. Maybe we did spend a bit too much time on it (2 classes is more than enough), but actually used this information in my other courses (like CCT205 - Digital Innovation and Cultural Transformation) which makes me feel like it's useful information that is applicable to the real world. Now, GOPST is something I use to plan out my own personal endeavours.

    MGD415 - Jessie L.

  • thanks - i have the perspective of having former students email me to say "keeping working on teaching this" cause they always find out in the real world how important GOPST is, thanks for your support Jessie

  • A SWOT analysis can ultimately lead to satisfying objectives, or can even determine weather or not you even want to enter a business market and create GOPST.

    MGD415- Toloue Ghasemloo

  • The most beneficial concept I took from this course was the concept of performing a SWOT analysis before GOPST. As a business, or individual, we can only accomplish a goal by meeting our objectives; (which come from partaking in plans.

It is beneficial to find personal/business strengths and weaknesses, opportunities and threats before creating a goal or goals. It is a necessary part of preparation for creating a plan.

    MGD416- Toloue Ghasemloo

  • The biggest takeaways from this course I believe is GOPST and applying it to e-commerce and marketing. I sometimes have problems organizing thoughts and ideas and I believe GOPST is a helpful organizational tool that can be applied to many different scenarios. Another big takeaway from this course is social engineering, I find the topic very interest. I didn't know too much about it before but this class and after learning about in class I did further research on the topic.

  • New technologies were never made to replace humans but to allow humans to be more efficient and effective. With all these new technology that has yet to be adopted into our everyday lives, (ex. biometrics), one can only imagine what technology can do for businesses all around the world.

The one question that really intrigues me is how long does the government/ technology developer wait before the technology is released to the public. Is there a set amount of time?

  • Other than developing a GOPST, the main thing I took away from this course was from the new technologies section. Not only have I learned more about RFID and QR Code technology, I have become heavily interested in the concept of augmented reality and what it has in store in the future. Much like what others have stated, I have done my own research on the topic. And this was all thanks to the final assignment.

  • My favourite topic discussed in this course was the way we are using technology to replicate human experiences. This goes as far as the Internet itself becoming used as another social dimension we would otherwise experience in real life, with the difference of asynchronous time for most websites or networks like blogs, and minus the geographical factor. Also, i loved the interesting fact that one of the first examples of Mass outsourcing was the British Empire commissioning priates!

    Cezar C.

  • technology to replicate human experiences - ya, glad you picked up on that, it has been a driving force for many things and if you understand this principle you can almost predict new technologies - which at a minimum would allow you to chose which IPOs to invest in eh

  • I also learnt about the two very fascinating phenomenons social engineering and competitive executive recruitment.

  • Throughout this course I have learnt numerous interesting facts, especially about QR codes and RFID technologies. Furthermore, in the competitive intelligence section I learnt that there were really 4 types of business competitiors. Even though the first three are obvious, the last one being "Organizations that could remove the need for a product/service we sell" is something that I would not think of while developing a product/service.

  • The most important tip that I learned from this course was that developing a system for micropayments is the best way to become rich in the future. My group presented on a new home alarm system that can be activated or de-activated from your cellphone. It was nice to know that you thought it can be a real world application. It has been a pleasure taking your course.

  • What I learned most from this course would be GOPST. When I say GOPST, I don't just mean what they are as in Goals, Objectives, etc. But more specifically, how to create a business model.

I think it's very easy to become sidetracked in trying to develop a product or solve a specific problem. But with GOPST, it allows for you to dissect a problem into its various layers, and understand how each solution will be affected through its implementation.

  • ...Continued. Like you have pointed out Prof WTGR, the future of technology is evolving everyday and with the right resources and research it could very well be one of us implementing a new system or process that redefines the way we live our lives. Hopefully when that day comes you will get your "cut". Awesome class, it pushed me to do a lot of independent studying and research.

    Annan Prashad

    MGD415

  • independent studying is hard to motivate yourself for, but the rewards are there cause competitively you will be more "well read" than others in their early 20's

  • My biggest takeaway from this course was definitely GOPST and RFID technology. I did not realize that RFID technology was such an immensely used tech. in many areas and industries. Even better, I have begun to do a lot of research on this technology, specifically on the companies producing RFID devices and such.

  • A trend I've noticed while taking MGD 415 is the slow adoption of technology in North America in comparison to countries such as Japan. In my group project we discussed QR codes which is a fairly new technology but it started in Japan in 2003 as a means to implement mobile marketing but there are still users in NA, who are oblivious to the new technology. This is evident in various technologies, such as micro-payments.

Prof. Richardson, its been a pleasure learning!

  • @RanaM08

    Hey!

I agree with you. In Japan right now they have cellular phones with cameras that have 12.5megapixels whereas in North America we do not have such high resolution cellular phone cameras.
