I'm not sure the word association technique is "tricking" the students. The angry reaction by the teachers perhaps was unnecessary. But the concept of deep-seated, prejudicial associations is important to root out. Was this the best way to do it- probably not.

First racism is the belief(hence the suffix"-ism") that each race has a specific set of characteristics and that because of these traits races can be classified and ranked in order of best to worst. I remember my grandma bought a few videos. Two about safety (I think the first was lost for a brief time) and another about racism. The video made me feel like everyone was as equal as the other. And that's how I grew up. Basically, as a child, I thought racism was extinct.

But from research I've done that is validated through my experiences I see differences. For example, black males tend to be more aggressive than other races. This is played out in modern sports, song (rap), crime and historically in tribal patterns of Africans (low on building civilizations and high on tribal warfare and violent autocratic rule).
Black males have higher testosterone levels and androgen receptors which is one of the reasons for these traits. Males Asians on the other hand tend to be less aggressive, work well in groups and are prone to social conformity.

I hate shopping anymore. my husband says to view them as robots. don't expect human interaction.

You made a relevant point that only SOME whites had slaves. But as a consequence, ALL whites benefited somehow. Is it their fault? I don't think so...but there's still a huge problem from the race caste system that existed for so long. History is clear that Whites have been the most violent race ever. And so, have benefited from threatening, enslaving, destroying every competitor, and taking credit for what was done centuries previous by other races.
Whites are not "the most violent race ever". Everyone has butchered each other, including the American Indians, the Hutus and Tutsis of Africa, asians in Cambodia, Korea, China...the list is endless. Racism, and I'll accept your definition from earlier, does exist. I've made it real without any teachers. In my experience, I went from an unselfconscious interaction with a man to a suddenly suspicious and defensive one because he was black. And he saw it and I saw that he saw. It was real.

Hi Craigbe, I hope you can answer this! I am not siding with anyone but I think black advocates are more openly accepted due to their ancestry. Although we are not living in that period anymore, a number of people (including blacks and whites) are still influenced by the general view of blacks in history. Both of the races have people with positive and negative views of it, but it appears the majority are influenced by the negative aspect of it which is why I believe people find B-advocates "ok"

The whole skin color thing has a long, long history ... even among whites, having dark skin meant that you worked outdoors, whereas a light skin meant that you spent a lot of time indoors.
No doubt all sorts of such associations are buried in our subconscious. But they cannot be the whole, or even a major, explanation for why whites are underrepresented in basketball, and blacks are underrepresented in theoretical physics.
The association of the word "white" with good things and the word "black" with bad things doesn't originate with the races (neither of which are actually of these hues anyway). These associations originate with day and night. In the day, we feel safer than when do at night. This is probably a simple atavism. Even "black" children are sometimes scared of the dark!

my brother is a teacher and i was reading one of his NEA publications, thats NATIONAL EDUCATION ASSOCIATION and it was filled with all this propaganda multi-cultural diversity worshiping liberal politically correct crap, bothersome to say the least - showing a political agenda way beyond the simple mandate of just teaching our children, and then my dad, in his 70s said the NEA didn't used to be this way, didn't have this overt left wing slant - interesting to see who has taken over where & when

I'm not sure the word association technique is "tricking" the students. The angry reaction by the teachers perhaps was unnecessary. But the concept of deep-seated, prejudicial associations is important to root out. Was this the best way to do it- probably not.

Sigh. Well I was born in Virginia. My dad was born in Detroit, Michigan. His mother is from Mississippi. All parts of the United States of America, which is my citizenship. The ancestors of Haitians are from Africa, like mine. However, the citizens are born and raised in Haiti. It's a pretty simple concept. I also have ancestors from England, but I wouldn't say "Gah! I just want to go back to England where I belong," although I drink tea and enjoy dry humor.

We can theorize all day about "why" black-on-white rapes are so prevalent 100 per day in U.S.), particular when compared to white-on-black rapes (virtually non-existent, statistical speaking). First racism is the belief(hence the suffix"-ism") that each race has a specific set of characteristics and that because of these traits races can be classified and ranked in order of best to worst. An example is a store-owner following a young black male around his store becuase he/she assume that said black male is going to steal something. Racist beliefs precipate a racist action, simple as that.

Wow. It's amazing how different some people were taught to view racism.
I remember my grandma bought a few videos. Two about safety (I think the first was lost for a brief time) and another about racism. The video made me feel like everyone was as equal as the other. And that's how I grew up. Basically, as a child, I thought racism was extinct.
I view people of different ethnic origins as "Oh, that's different from what I normally see" And soon get used to it. Thats about as racist as I get.

Until I watched this video, I had completely forgotten about my own experiences with this indoctrination game played by multiculturalist teachers in elementary school. I recall the tactics of using differing intonation and dismissing answers that weren't sufficiently negative when asked about "black." When I go home for Thanksgiving, I can't help feel but that I too am very different from my parents in the way I think.
But from research I've done that is validated through my experiences I see differences. For example, black males tend to be more aggressive than other races. This is played out in modern sports, song (rap), crime and historically in tribal patterns of Africans (low on building civilizations and high on tribal warfare and violent autocratic rule).

Black males have higher testosterone levels and androgen receptors which is one of the reasons for these traits. Males Asians on the other hand tend to be less aggressive, work well in groups and are prone to social conformity.
Of course these are all broad generalizations, but when talking about races of millions of people, generalization is necessary. There are always outliers. Just as there are many sweet gentle dobermans and some very aggressive poodles

I hate shopping anymore. my husband says to view them as robots. don't expect human interaction.

You made a relevant point that only SOME whites had slaves. But as a consequence, ALL whites benefited somehow. Is it their fault? I don't think so...but there's still a huge problem from the race caste system that existed for so long. History is clear that Whites have been the most violent race ever. Whites are not "the most violent race ever". Everyone has butchered each other, including the American Indians, the Hutus and Tutsis of Africa, asians in Cambodia, Korea, China...the list is endless. And the vast majority of Whites were poor and benefitted from slavery about as much as I benefit from the Mexican invasion today. Whites have don't need slaves or peasants, we have always built productive societies without dark people coming in and being parasites off our standard of living.

Most Whites had nothing to do with slavery, certainly not today. And there is no reason for blacks and mexicans to move into neighborhoods that Whites built, demand we hire them, and call us racist. They should leave us alone. Why do they keep following us? Why do they keep flooding into White countries? Do Whites flood into Mexico, China, Japan, Korea, the Middle East, latino countries? No, they have their racial countries and they want ours, too.

why do minorities receive harsher time for equal crimes...why are they more likely to be found innocent after "reasonable cause" investigation..why do they make less money than Whites when they have the same educational background, experience, and come from the same neighborhoods? Racism, and I'll accept your definition from earlier, does exist. I've made it real without any teachers. In my experience, I went from an unselfconscious interaction with a man to a suddenly suspicious and defensive one because he was black. And he saw it and I saw that he saw. It was real.

classes teach about black slavery over white slavery, because black slavery pertains to American history (assuming you guys are american). white slavery is encapsulated under indentured servitude, which was basically another name for indefinite bondage.
modern racism today stems from the planter aristocracy to prevent the disenfranchised slaves and indentured servants from uniting against the establishment. They said "hey, you people of european ancestry are better than africans"

Hi Craigbe, I hope you can answer this! I am not siding with anyone but I think black advocates are more openly accepted due to their ancestry. Although we are not living in that period anymore, a number of people (including blacks and whites) are still influenced by the general view of blacks in history. Both of the races have people with positive and negative views of it, but it appears the majority are influenced by the negative aspect of it which is why I believe people find B-advocates "ok"

The whole skin color thing has a long, long history ... even among whites, having dark skin meant that you worked outdoors, whereas a light skin meant that you spent a lot of time indoors.
No doubt all sorts of such associations are buried in our subconscious. But they cannot be the whole, or even a major, explanation for why whites are underrepresented in basketball, and blacks are underrepresented in theoretical physics.

The association of the word "white" with good things and the word "black" with bad things doesn't originate with the races (neither of which are actually of these hues anyway). These associations originate with day and night. In the day, we feel safer than when do at night. This is probably a simple atavism. Even "black" children are sometimes scared of the dark!

The only reason kids are taught anything about black slave trade only, is to plant the seed of white guilt.
The same reason the majority of the world today believes racism is something white or European people only are guilty of. Because they are brainwashed that it all started with black slave trade. That is where white man started believing the black man is not his equal. More difficult to teach if you know about white slave trade.

@islandshark4: I do know indentured servitude also happened to some poorer whites as well as blacks. But obviously, not as many whites suffered problem as did blacks. And when did this start really happening to whites? I've only been able to trace this back as farr as the 1700s. Black slavery has been around since around the early 1600s. I admit my history's a bit rusty, but, I'm certainly not trying to lie outright here. I'm just not that type.
