I will be honest here. Top Gear/Fifth Gear doesn't support reliability headaches or customer service issues. All they do is tell you how good the car is on handling/looks/practicality/performance when the model is unveiled. This does not mean the car is reliable it could be a right pile of shit in a few days time. U1430 is a bit of a dick but Ford are utter bollocks when it comes to ever lasting reliability though.

My family back in europe also say Fords are unreliable. If you want a reliable car then buy a Honda, Lexus or even Fiat. I currently own a Fiat Grande Punto and thats very reliable. If you notice the Fiesta is trying to look like a Grande Punto which is typical o Ford. They always copy other designs because they suck at being original. I'd rather own my stylish and reliable Fiat than that ugly green thing!
Ford may have pinched Mazda engines & a few from blocks from Yamaha but the spark plugs rust away like fuck & the Engine Management, Starter motors etc are shit & so are the Gearboxes. Fiat are quite bad for fuses/switches/wiring & wiper motors dying but they are very reliable with E/W, E/S/R, E/M, R/C/L, Aircon, Alarms, Heated Seats, etc etc. Fords interior mod-cons hardly ever work! Trust me Ive driven loads of Escorts & Mondies & the interior mods like Eleccy Windows, Seats etc never work!

Lancia was the only car under Fiat that made a dangerous car. It was the brakes. They stopped production of the Lancia for 2 years removing the servo & correcting the problem. Ford had something worse that caused more deaths... The Pinto! The car had spiked bolts behind the fuel tank. Ford carried on selling the Pinto despite knowing the problem. They swept it under the carpet, The car was blowing up everytime it crashed killing everyone in it. Ford even had a budget for compensation claims!
Lancia Therma I think it was? but Lancia soon sorted the problem out & began re-selling the car after 2 years. Ford didn't. They ruthlessly sold the Pinto & didn't fix the spiked bolt problem because it was cheaper to hand out compensation to distraught families then it was to re-call the Pintos. Thats the devils way of calling customers mugs. But the reality of it was... It wasn't the devil that sold the Pinto... It was Ford.
Loved the video. There are few car performance shows on TV in the U.S. I've been interested in the Fiesta for quite a while and this one gives a good test drive for possible buyers in the U.S. I think it's supposed to be available to buy in the U.S. in 2010.
Ford has attempted to copy the styling of Fiat 's Grande Punto and has failed. Support Giugiaro Italian design and buy a Fiat Grande Punto. It's far better looking and more spacious than the Fiesta. And from reading owner reviews (which is what counts), the Fiesta isn't that reliable either!

i have a fiesta mk 5. it's the one before this and trust me it is not that reliable. all the plastic bits on the outside tend to come off, the injectors get jammed quite easily and there were quite a few other engine problems
yeah i heard stories like that about the mk5, but apparently the new fiesta's are at the same level as vw reliability wise and the quality of the components and the assembling process... like what gluepot66 said. Then again you have to see what happens in the future, sadly you can never be 100% sure about a car.

It seems Ford are still insistent on spending their profits on good advertising then they actually do on their cars... Fiat Punto Grandes or Seat Ibizas are the best alternatives on a budget other than Fiestas. Seats Ibizas are slow with the 16V petrol engines but are most punchy with TDi's. Puntos have the most pokey 16V engines over then all & they also have the same quick-pokey diesel engines as an Ibiza but suffer with depreciation. The 1.4T-Jet/1.9 Multijet JTD Punto or Ibiza FR TDi 130... I'd have them any day over the 1.6 Ti-VCT engine they stick in the Zetec-S. The 1.6 TDCi Fiesta Zetec-S is a Joke!

Why not get a 130ps Diesel!!! should as much to insure as a 1.4 16V supermini. There isn't one in a Fiesta Zetec-S because the 1.6 TDCi is a 90ps engine... 0-60 takes 11 seconds or more... No fun! However the Punto Grande have a 130ps 1.9 JTD Multijet 0-60 in 9.5 Seconds! & Seat Ibiza has a 130ps 1.9 TDi FR 0-60 in 9.0 Seconds! Well Worth thinking about! :-)
For sure I wouldn't mind any one of them, but sadly I'm 22 and over here in Belgium the limit for a car's power as a young driver is 90 ps, they simply wont insure anything more powerfull, I have to wait another three or four years, or go by a "luxury vehicle" insurance company, but I'll be looking at 4 or 5 k a year :s. Or else I'd go for the fiat 500 Abarth or polo gti straight away :D
What a wank your Belgium law is. When I was 23 I first got my Seat Leon 150ps TDi insured & everything & it hasn't broken the bank. Even at 22 I had a company Ford Focus 2.0L TDCi 136ps & a Fiat Bravo 103ps 1.6 HLX that was my own car. Loads of 17-20 yearold kids in the UK drive 1.8/2.0L 16V cars as their 2nd car after their 1st car. Come to the UK Belgium sucks man
NO don't do that! You will lose your licence its a really bad move. There are 2 tiny loop-holes I can think of that may work. Get a fast version of a boring european 4-door car for example: A Rover 200Vi (1.8 150 VVC). Then insure it as a normal 214 SLi (1.4 8v) just do it as a lower power output. Do the make/model/trim on your policy not your registration. Or... get your parent/guardian to insure it & add you as a named driver? 1 of those 2 should work. It won't show up on their ANPR system.
Magazines say its good blah blah blah... Look at Parkers Owners reviews. They said the Ford S-Max was the best but how ironic over time that its turned out to be the most unreliable MPV in the UK. Recent generation Fords are a pile of cost cutting shit, Its like Buying a KIA for the price of a VW. TDCi versions being the worst ones of all. They are as bad as French cars if not... WORSE!

Loved the video. There are few car performance shows on TV in the U.S. I've been interested in the Fiesta for quite a while and this one gives a good test drive for possible buyers in the U.S. I think it's supposed to be available to buy in the U.S. in 2010.

Ford has attempted to copy the styling of Fiat 's Grande Punto and has failed. Support Giugiaro Italian design and buy a Fiat Grande Punto. It's far better looking and more spacious than the Fiesta. And from reading owner reviews (which is what counts), the Fiesta isn't that reliable either!

guess what, the ford fiesta is a good car, most magazines say it's the best in its class btw, and everybody would obviously prefer to drive a bmw or an audi or a merc etc etc, but not everyone wants to spend all their money on a car, and for the price of the fiesta it's good value believe me. and for reliability, i dont know where you heard that recent fords aren't reliable but i think you should look it up, they're not the most reliable cars but they don't break down all the time...

i have a fiesta mk 5. it's the one before this and trust me it is not that reliable. all the plastic bits on the outside tend to come off, the injectors get jammed quite easily and there were quite a few other engine problems

yeah i heard stories like that about the mk5, but apparently the new fiesta's are at the same level as vw reliability wise and the quality of the components and the assembling process... like what gluepot66 said. Then again you have to see what happens in the future, sadly you can never be 100% sure about a car.

Thats just a new rumour. If you read the owners reviews on parkers the buyers have a different story. It seems Ford are still insistent on spending their profits on good advertising then they actually do on their cars... The beautifully arranged Focus was very different quality/reliability story from the example I was given as a company car as a sales rep from a U.S based telecoms company.

Thats how Ford have escaped recessions over the decades by careful cunning but miserable cost cutting. Lowering quality & upping the price tag giving you Kia/Daewoo quality for the price of an Audi. Enough advertising on T.V & everyone will be brainwashed into buying Fords. They are shite cars especially the quality of interior. After my experience with 2 of them, I will never lay down my hard-earned cash on the table to buy a Ford it would only be company. Pile of abysmal overpriced crap.

Fiat Punto Grandes or Seat Ibizas are the best alternatives on a budget other than Fiestas. Seats Ibizas are slow with the 16V petrol engines but are most punchy with TDi's. Puntos have the most pokey 16V engines over then all & they also have the same quick-pokey diesel engines as an Ibiza but suffer with depreciation. The 1.4T-Jet/1.9 Multijet JTD Punto or Ibiza FR TDi 130... I'd have them any day over the 1.6 Ti-VCT engine they stick in the Zetec-S. The 1.6 TDCi Fiesta Zetec-S is a Joke!

Allright you seem to know what your talking about, I'll keep all this in mind, cheers for the info. But budget wise I've got a good margin, it's just that I don't see the point in spending alot of money on a car that in the end is there to bring you from a to b. But that doesn't mean I'd buy a lada ;), my main problem is that I'm a young driver so insurance is ridiculously expensive... :(

No one wants a Lada Riva or an FSO Polonez for god sake! I'd rather walk barefoot on red-hot coals from A-B than get in one of those! Why not get a 130ps Diesel!!! should as much to insure as a 1.4 16V supermini. There isn't one in a Fiesta Zetec-S because the 1.6 TDCi is a 90ps engine... 0-60 takes 11 seconds or more... No fun! However the Punto Grande have a 130ps 1.9 JTD Multijet 0-60 in 9.5 Seconds! & Seat Ibiza has a 130ps 1.9 TDi FR 0-60 in 9.0 Seconds! Well Worth thinking about! :-)

For sure I wouldn't mind any one of them, but sadly I'm 22 and over here in Belgium the limit for a car's power as a young driver is 90 ps, they simply wont insure anything more powerfull, I have to wait another three or four years, or go by a "luxury vehicle" insurance company, but I'll be looking at 4 or 5 k a year :s. Or else I'd go for the fiat 500 Abarth or polo gti straight away :D

What a wank your Belgium law is. When I was 23 I first got my Seat Leon 150ps TDi insured & everything & it hasn't broken the bank. Even at 22 I had a company Ford Focus 2.0L TDCi 136ps & a Fiat Bravo 103ps 1.6 HLX that was my own car. Loads of 17-20 yearold kids in the UK drive 1.8/2.0L 16V cars as their 2nd car after their 1st car. Come to the UK Belgium sucks man

NO don't do that! You will lose your licence its a really bad move. There are 2 tiny loop-holes I can think of that may work. Get a fast version of a boring european 4-door car for example: A Rover 200Vi (1.8 150 VVC). Then insure it as a normal 214 SLi (1.4 8v) just do it as a lower power output. Do the make/model/trim on your policy not your registration. Or... get your parent/guardian to insure it & add you as a named driver? 1 of those 2 should work. It won't show up on their ANPR system.
