My Grandfather was CO of Whiskey Coy. in Vietnam he lost 8 men, my father was CO of Bravo Coy. in East Timor, the commander of the Late Private Leonard Manning. My dad was a different man after losing Private Manning.
The NZ Military is probably one of the most Under rated / Under appreciated militaries in the world. U guys deserve more Recognition for all you have contributed to the world.
@SugarTomApple Technically NZ didn't loose Crete. The German codes had been broken and info on the coming attack on Crete cabled to Freyburg. He had to draw up his battle plan on that info so the Germans didn't realize there codes were broken. Withdrawing from Crete forced 30,000 odd Germans to garrison the island. If it were the other way around, it is possible that Britain may not have had enough soldiers to hold Nth Africa in the coming months.
Awesome Vid. Im proud to be a kiwi and its good for people to see a glimpse of our history. Im currently a RIT/Pte in B Coy, Wellingtons own. Looking foward to this months Ex and future deployments.
We, the younger generation have a lot to look up to.
Yes, Kiwis fought in Greece. Town of Galatos, drivers, cooks and signals carried out bayonet charges at night against German positions. Galatos Street of K'rd Auckland named so.
2NZEF's New Zealand 2nd Division was deployed in Greece and fought in defence against the Italian and then German invasion. 291 kiwi men were killed, 1,826 captured and 387 seriously wounded.
After the fall of Greece, The New Zealand 2nd Division was then evacuated to Crete. They then fought against German Paratroopers on Crete, 2,180 kiwis were captured, 671 were killed and 967 wounded.
@GreekHero16 Yes. My dad and five uncles were there fighting in Greece. They also fought in Crete. Unfortunately they lost both battles and had to run away. It is shameful for New Zealanders to lose any battle. We started winning when the United States helped us. God bless the Americans.
