Kind of puzzling. Its not particularly light for 5 mtrs. Looks like a Proa rigged Cat with that big ama. I'm amazed it was the most efficient rig there.
Were the other boats really badly tuned? Was there a lot of shunting?
Looks this boat could shunt really fast.
It looks like the rig can compensate for the bendy in the mast on one tack at least. Sitting clear over at the ama should help close hauled.
I don't think I'd want to run aground with those rudders at 10+ knots! :-)
My boat was by a long way the lightest boat there, almost all the others needed 4 or more people to lift them where mine can easily be lifted by 2. This probably contributed more to the speed, although the rig is surprisingly efficient.
The harryproa may of been lighter but was uncontrollable and therefore couldn't do more than go round in circles while slowly sinking.
Yes mine is very quick to shunt, simply let one sheet go and pull in the other, as well as changing tillers
How tall is that mast? Im starting my own proa its one of a kind its going to be really compact (like 2x sized kayak) when its folded and its going to have a partialy enclosed cockpit with tinted plexiglass (going for looks& speed) Also how does the steering mechinsim work? yours looks a little different than steering oars. This is a great vid dude, its vids like this is why I joined youtube!!! your an inspiration. Is this in New zeland or where dude?
