@ZXReploidHunter you can play the master system version its the same (apart from couple levels being slightly different) by getting the megadrive,genesis- master system converter
Okay, I think I might have figured out where this 16-bit version of "Bridge Zone" may have come from...
The Sega Mark III (Japanese version of the Master System) had an optional Yamaha FM synth sound chip released in 1987 only for Japan. This FM synth chip upgrades the sound quality to 16-bit FM synth, giving it a sound quality close to the Mega Drive / Genesis.
I'm guessing this might be an FM synth upgraded version of the "Bridge Zone" theme from Sonic on the Master System?
@Jagged85 Having personally heard what that FM synth chip sounds like, it's nothing close to what this is. It might have the power to do it, but this sounds programmed specifically for the 16-bit FM synth chip, which the add on would not support.

Im tired of people saying who ripped off who, yes we know this came before Janet Jackson's song, but there are gajillion songs/music out there in this world and certain music will sound similar to one another so please just shut up and enjoy the music.
It was Janet Jackson's "Together Again" (1997) that borrowed the melody of "Bridge Zone" from Yuzo Koshiro's soundtrack to the 8-bit Sonic. In turn, "Together Again" inspired quite a few other songs with a similar melody, including "We're All in This Together" from High School Musical (2006) . It's also worth noting that Sonic Adventure (1999) included a vocal version of "Bridge Zone" as the theme music for Tails.
@jedihunter176 i thought the same and the thing is that the intro of this song sounds like the intro of tails theme in sonic adventure 1 called believe in myself you will notice it right away, go and check it out :)
Janet Jackson's "Together Again" was released in 1997, a whole 6 years after Yuzo Koshiro's "Bridge Zone" theme from 8-bit Sonic (1991)... Are you seriously telling me Yuzo travelled 6 years into the future? Common sense dictates that it was Janet who ripped-off Yuzo.
Anyway, thanks for proving my point about Yuzo Koshiro being one of the most influential video game music composers of all time... so much so that even mainstream pop musicians took inspiration from him.
No worries. I was pretty surprised myself that Janet Jackson's best-selling single was inspired by Sonic of all things. But then again, Michael Jackson worked on the Sonic 3 soundtrack and went uncredited for it. So I think it balances out.
As for Yuzo Koshiro, the only Sonic soundtrack he worked on was the 8-bit Sonic (which inspired quite a few pop songs). It would've been cool to see Yuzo produce some more Sonic music, but he was probably busy with Streets of Rage.
By the way, Yuzo Koshiro's influence in pop music doesn't end with Janet Jackson either. Koshiro's soundtracks for the Streets of Rage series, especially Streets of Rage 3, also laid the foundations for the grime and dubstep genres that are hugely popular in the UK today.
Interesting. I just checked out the music video, and it seems like Tron meets Streets of Rage. But yeah, a lot of UK dubstep & grime artists grew up playing the Streets of Rage games, and that's why their music often gives off a 'grimy' sound similar to Yuzo Koshiro's Streets of Rage 3 soundtrack (which was basically random 16-bit hardcore drum & bass on crack).
The initial story was that it was Sega who didn't want his name on it because of the controversial scandal (i.e. false 'pedo' allegations) that popped up at the time. But after he was finally proven innocent a few years ago, the story changed to it being MJ that didn't want to be credited because he wasn't happy with the sound quality. I guess we won't know for sure what the real reasons were.
@Jagged85 No, the scandal theory was just a guess, it was never the official story. People guessed that was the reason why MJ was not credited. The official story was always that MJ was not happy with the sound quality.
Koshiro composed the original version. This 16-bit version seems to be have been remixed by an anonymous user, possibly using a MIDI file of the song with a Mega Drive/Genesis-style soundfont.
I really liked Masato Nakamura's soundtracks for the first two Sonic games, but he didn't compose anymore video game soundtracks since then, which is a shame.
love the modern depiction, but the MS and GG version of Sonic sucked compared to the Genesis version. The were no loops and the only actual zone in the game was Green Hill
@pauldennis67 The only thing is, this came out way before that song existed. Michael Jackson was involved in the music for Sonic 3, so she probably had access to these tracks and sampled it.
@mrshanegt I'm talking about Janet Jackson, but I probably phrased the last comment poorly. MJ did the music for Sonic 3, because of that Janet Jackson may have had access to these tracks, or the rights to sample them.
