I throw a 1 nd a1/4 turn, and my percentage is 44.6% ive been shooting for 8 months nd im 19.. im from southern california nd pitch for nhpa.. Shes a very decent thrower
We just met Joan in Danville Il. Before we knew who she was, she offered my wife who pitches at 30ft and flips like Joan, some advice. She was extremely nice to talk to and she hung with us some over the weekend and didn't miss many of Denise's matches. Needless to say, her advice led to my wife winning her class with a record of 7-0 and 3 games that averaged over 50%. Joan is a class act and a real sweetheart. Can't wait to see her again.
dolphman12: Generally speaking, if you are a woman pitching from 30 ft, the flip is a great pitch to use. Pitching from the 40 ft distance, a turn shoe is considered the best. Flipping from 40 ft. you lose a lot of ringers because the shoe bounces back and off when you hit the stake. BUT 35% is above the national average, so if you are comfortable flipping, stay with it.
I also use the flip technique i average a 35% percent ringer rate. i was trying to learn the 1 and 1/4 turn...but iam doing horriable. would it benefit me more to keep practing the 1 and 1/4 turn or stick with the flip?
I brought out an old plastic backyard-set this summer that I found in the shed.
It brought back a lot of youthful memories and even though the setup is just played on grass, I have a had a great time playing this great game with family. Probably will put in a real setup next summer. Superb video! Got the site bookmarked too. Thanks for posting.
Right now in NHPA natstats, Joan is averaging 86%.
Kabooy4, you are doing ok for a beginner. Try to find a grip that you feel comortable with and one that lets the shoe open at the stake. Then practice, practice, practice.
Excellent! I play in my backyard by myself just to get better, and I have question. DO your horsehoes rotate end over end forward in the air or from side to side?
Joan pitches what is commonly called the "flip". The shoe rotates end over end one turn. However, the most popular pitch is a 1 and 1/4 turn. There is a ton of information on horseshoe pitching that can be found on line. Also, there are many videos and books on how to pitch. These can be found on line also. The best advice: Slow your pitch down and learn to follow through and experiment to find the best grip for you.
Very nice, Its awesome to get to see such a great horseshoe pitcher like Joan Elmore in action , Joan good wishes at Ardmore OK, at the world Tournament this year. Awesome.
