everyone, please give her an A for effort--and I'm sure Italtians appreciated the translation (imperfect as it is). why don't singers do this nowadays? lack of respect for other languages!!
@stevemichaels2020 Hi. I found out about the German version of You Don't Own Me (Goodbye Tony) and I got that. It's very good. But I didn't know about the Itatlian version of Judy's Turn to Cry. Now, I have to get that too. haha. Thanks.
Well I didnt understand one word of it but I liked it alot! Wonder how this version did for her over there? You could tell it was the exact same music recording we had here just a different vocal track. Thanks for posting.
@ljncolour2 The Italian title is 'Va - Tu Sei Libero' (Go - You're Free). The line in English 'You Don't Own Me' in the Italian version is 'Il Mio Nome', which means 'my name', it's followed by different phrases like 'my name - never again on your lips' and 'my name - forget it'.
@ljncolour2 --- it is called : Va'... Tu Sei Libero- Which means GO, you are free, (single)...he has broken her heart and she is done with him- but she tells him he will look for her, and when he does, she tells him to go away. The singer in Italian is Isabella Iannetti ---sang in 1964
People are so critical about the american singers to sing french or italian with a big accent. :-) These songs were sang in the 60's-70's. Have you listen to Beyonce, Madonna and other American singers trying to go international. Is it the same or worse?
sono italiano, ho ascoltato anche la versione francese ma preferisco di gran lunga la versione originale inglese. è più profonda...for english guys, I wanna tell you that her pronunciation is not so good...
I like accents though - Abba sounded better because they sounded Swedish... it's only when the singer worries too much about pronouciation & their voice becomes strangulated that it's a problem.
I agree with shangave..........sometimes the american accent comes to strong BUTN overall is quite very nice....She need a good Italian teacher (like me AND free of charge) so call me Lesley
I speak Italian, I can understand what she sings. but just sometimes she has a strong american accent, "rs", or "rr" and i can't understand what she says,
Lesley has also recorded Judy's Turn To Cry in Italian. In French, she recorded Maybe I Know; Live and Learn; You've Come Back; Hey Now;Run Bobby Run; Time To Go; If That's The Way You Want It. In German, she recorded That's The Way Boys Are; Time To Go; It's Gotta Be You; Der Este Tanz;
Hey shangave...........Do you speak italian??? I DO NOT THINK SO...to critize her italian means you know italian like I know chinese tu no sai che cosa parla estupito
Per la tua informazione io parlo benissimo l'italiano, non ho detto mai che lei canta male o che non è una brava cantante, Io ho solo detto che il suo accento in Italiano è male e che non ci capisce, preferisco la versione in Francese.. tu parli l'italiano?
I have the English version of You Don't Own Me. What I'm asking is, is the Italian version the same as the English? The German and French versions are not the same as the English version.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I may be mistaken, but it seems to me she is saying here
"I would like the lasagna with mushroom sauce, some garlic bread with olive oil not butter, a nice Chianti, and some cannoli. And please, could you ask the concertina player to come to our table? Grazie".
No stevemi the Italian version is not the same as in English, she talks about someone that she doesn't want more, someone that makes she suffer so much, and she says that one day the person will suffer like her. that now this person is free for do what want, becouse she doesn't want anymore. I tried to write the letter but is not so easy, I am not Italian but I speak so good Italian, but there are some words not so easy to understand because her accent is not so nice, as in other languages
I asked for a friend "an Italian friend" to write for me this letter, but even for her was not easy to understand she didn't understand the same words that i didn't too. I know that the name of this song is " Va tu sei Libero " in english "Go, you are free" becouse there's other singer which sings the same song I think she's French "I am not sure" her name is Dalida and the album with this song is: Dalida - Italia mia CD 5, track 3.
Hey seanlyoung - I know that she speaks both languages, Her french is perfect, I know that, and I prefer she singing in french, But I don't know and I never heard about some version of her in spanish, maybe she has one.. I will look for and let you know it.
To my knowledge, Lesley never recorded in Spanish. She has recorded You Don't Own Me in French, German, and Italian. The French version is titled Je Ne Sais Plus; German Version is Goodbye Tony. They are completely different from the English version.
