  • everyone, please give her an A for effort--and I'm sure Italtians appreciated the translation (imperfect as it is). why don't singers do this nowadays? lack of respect for other languages!!

  • there's an italian song that talks about something similar...its called "La bambola" by patty pravo.

  • This is interesting to hear in Italian :) lol...I also remember hearing "Maybe I Know" in this language...does anyone have that version?

  • Gratzie , Reine

  • Wow, this is fantastic. I only knew the English and French versions. I didn't even know she did an Italian version until now. Great stuff.

  • @DominickFontana Lesley also does a German version of You Don't Own Me. The title is GOODBYE TONY. Also in Italian Lesley sings JUDY'S TURN TO CRY.

  • @stevemichaels2020 Hi. I found out about the German version of You Don't Own Me (Goodbye Tony) and I got that. It's very good. But I didn't know about the Itatlian version of Judy's Turn to Cry. Now, I have to get that too. haha. Thanks.

  • i didnt even know lesley could speak italian. wow. amazing song. great add.

  • Well I didnt understand one word of it but I liked it alot! Wonder how this version did for her over there? You could tell it was the exact same music recording we had here just a different vocal track. Thanks for posting.

  • this is pretty bad Italian pronunciation!

  • I'm full-blooded Sicilian, don't speak a word of italian, but this version is GREAT!

  • very beautiful song

  • Hey, I don't know what she is singing, but it is lovely !

  • The italian title is "Va tu sei libero" (go away, you're free).

The translation is only partially adherent to the original

  • whats the title of this in italian?

  • sorry but I don't know... all the best :-)

  • @ljncolour2

Italian title: Va tu sei libero (Go Away, You're Free)

    45rpm MERCURY MCF 127140 year 1965

  • @ljncolour2 :

italian title: Va tu sei libero

    (go away, you're free)

  • @ljncolour2 The title is: "va' tu sei libero" , the song was recorded in italian by Dalida and Isabella Iannetti with the same title

  • @ljncolour2

in italian the title is "va tu sei libero" (go away, you're free)

the translation is only partially adherent to the original

  • @ljncolour2 The Italian title is 'Va - Tu Sei Libero' (Go - You're Free). The line in English 'You Don't Own Me' in the Italian version is 'Il Mio Nome', which means 'my name', it's followed by different phrases like 'my name - never again on your lips' and 'my name - forget it'.

  • @ljncolour2 --- it is called : Va'... Tu Sei Libero- Which means GO, you are free, (single)...he has broken her heart and she is done with him- but she tells him he will look for her, and when he does, she tells him to go away. The singer in Italian is Isabella Iannetti ---sang in 1964

  • fantastic, never heard this Italian version before!! thanks so much for posting this!!!

  • good question only know the one in french. kind of sounds a litlle spanish. your serve

  • i was wondering.

what are the actual titles of "you don't own me" and "Judys turn to cry" in italian?

Love collecting these foreign re-recordings such as these!!!!!

  • @tenniscollecter

    non si possiede me

is you dont own me in italian i believe

  • People are so critical about the american singers to sing french or italian with a big accent. :-) These songs were sang in the 60's-70's. Have you listen to Beyonce, Madonna and other American singers trying to go international. Is it the same or worse?

  • THANKS FOR POSTING THIS!!!!! Brava!

  • Very nice.

I didn't know an Italian version of this song existed

    Thanks for sharing. 5 stars.

  • Lesley has also recorded an Italian version of Judy's Turn To Cry.

  • sono italiano, ho ascoltato anche la versione francese ma preferisco di gran lunga la versione originale inglese. è più profonda...for english guys, I wanna tell you that her pronunciation is not so good...

  • @cirodino

Never mind her Italian, how is your English?

  • surely better than your and her italian ;)

  • Sono Americano, proviamo ma....

  • I like accents though - Abba sounded better because they sounded Swedish... it's only when the singer worries too much about pronouciation & their voice becomes strangulated that it's a problem.

  • I agree with shangave..........sometimes the american accent comes to strong BUTN overall is quite very nice....She need a good Italian teacher (like me AND free of charge) so call me Lesley

  • I speak Italian, I can understand what she sings. but just sometimes she has a strong american accent, "rs", or "rr" and i can't understand what she says,

  • I do miss the original meaning of the song, but this is lovely

  • To those who speak Italian. Is her pronunication good? Does it sound like she has an accent?

  • I LOVE IT !!!

  • Her pronunciation is quite good, though you can clearly spot her American accent when she pronounces the 'r's the 'o's and 'e's..

    ;-)

  • ahhhhh, ti amo !!!!

  • haha nice!! the italian version sound good too!!

  • yes french, italian, german and of course english

  • She did it in German too, called "goodbye Tony"

  • The french version is Je Ne Sais Plus. The B side of the single was Run Bobby, Run- Je Nos Pas.

  • wow how many versions are there of this song!? french, english AND italian!! mon dieu it's so cool, mi piace all three versions!!

  • ToscoVoozhot:

Anche io,mi piace molto. Mais la chanson est plus belle en francais, oui?

  • thanks

  • Lesley has also recorded Judy's Turn To Cry in Italian. In French, she recorded Maybe I Know; Live and Learn; You've Come Back; Hey Now;Run Bobby Run; Time To Go; If That's The Way You Want It. In German, she recorded That's The Way Boys Are; Time To Go; It's Gotta Be You; Der Este Tanz;

  • The song is named " Va tu sei Libero "

  • Very Very Nice, I love it

  • Hey shangave...........Do you speak italian??? I DO NOT THINK SO...to critize her italian means you know italian like I know chinese tu no sai che cosa parla estupito

  • So vickgore, you learn Italian and then talk with me..

  • Brava!!!!!

Lei canta piu bello il italiano.

You sing BEAUTIFUL italian. Un altro????? Another one?????

    Your fan, VICKY

  • Anyone have the translation for this song?

  • Just search the English original "You Don't Own Me".

  • I have the English version of You Don't Own Me. What I'm asking is, is the Italian version the same as the English? The German and French versions are not the same as the English version.

  • If you don't know the Italian translation, why don't you just say you don't know it instead of trying to be funny!

  • Perche sono sempre un po d'un pagliacco. Perdonate me per favore.

  • Non è così, Lei è una Brava cantante non fai scherzo..

  • hahaha! good one!

  • No stevemi the Italian version is not the same as in English, she talks about someone that she doesn't want more, someone that makes she suffer so much, and she says that one day the person will suffer like her. that now this person is free for do what want, becouse she doesn't want anymore. I tried to write the letter but is not so easy, I am not Italian but I speak so good Italian, but there are some words not so easy to understand because her accent is not so nice, as in other languages

  • I asked for a friend "an Italian friend" to write for me this letter, but even for her was not easy to understand she didn't understand the same words that i didn't too. I know that the name of this song is " Va tu sei Libero " in english "Go, you are free" becouse there's other singer which sings the same song I think she's French "I am not sure" her name is Dalida and the album with this song is: Dalida - Italia mia CD 5, track 3.

  • Dalida herself was born in Egypt, but her family had come there from Calabria

... she moved to France when she was in her early 20s and lived there for over 50 years

  • Ok I didn't know that.. but this is good, I will try to put her song here..

  • Thank you

  • It's almost impossible understand this Italian.

  • shangave - Did you know Lesley speaks both French and Italian? Her French version of this song is perfect. I wonder if she recorded it in Spanish?

  • Hey seanlyoung - I know that she speaks both languages, Her french is perfect, I know that, and I prefer she singing in french, But I don't know and I never heard about some version of her in spanish, maybe she has one.. I will look for and let you know it.

  • To my knowledge, Lesley never recorded in Spanish. She has recorded You Don't Own Me in French, German, and Italian. The French version is titled Je Ne Sais Plus; German Version is Goodbye Tony. They are completely different from the English version.

  • This Italian is so bad.. she is a great singer but her Italian accent is so bad..

  • This is interesting--Connie Francis also recorded many of her hits in multiple languages.

  • Thanks for posting these pictures. Lesley looks really cute - especially 0:22.

  • Does she sing this song in Hungarian or in Greek or even in Mongolian?

  • No, Lesley recorded You Don't Own Me only in French (Je Ne Sais Plus); German (Goodbye Tony) and Italian.

  • lovely thanks, Todd x

  • The Italian versions of You Don't Own Me and Judy's Turn To Cry are on the Bear Family Records five-cd box set titled It's My Party.

  • I realy like this song.

It was nice to listen in italian.
