@xoxellevexox I imagine they're so expensive because theyre 100% silk. I bought a really nice one online that didnt cost me anywhere near as much as those
On your other vids I saw that clothes in Japan are really expensive. How come it is like that? Isn't there a deflation? Normally everything should be cheaper. =/
So.. If I go to Japan on vacation and wanted to rent a kimono to wear for the day, with my grandparents wearing them as well, would we be thought badly of?
I don't mind getting stared at or anything, I just don't want to be offensive. :)
@99Crystals Quite the opposite. I went to the Kyoto textile centre where you can pay £10 to have a kimono propaly fittedand loaned for a couple hours. Iwent on the fasion stage so my boyfriend could take a video of me, and the japanese there thought it was a real fasion show and were fascinated that a gaijin girl was in kimono! They all got out the cameras and camcorders! It was hilarious. I was only meant to go up for five minutes. I was up there for ages. It was so sweet!
are kimonos still hand made cus they used to take a very long time to make. have you seen a real geisha yet?I have seen some geisha vids but ppl said they were just tourists dressed up and pretending :(
my mum is 55 and has a childs kimono she was given when she was about 5 when a uncle went to japan its beautiful!!
15000 thousand dollars! holy mother god. The most I've spent on a single piece of clothing was 200 quids and that'll probably last me for next 5-10 years to come.
Thank you so much for the visit. I hope that you return to another Kimono Shop and spend more time there. Perhaps exploring the differing varieties of Kimono...(Furisode) etc. Again, thank you.
Assuming you meant $15,000; kimono are supposed to be made of silk, and totally hand made. People of means who want a truly traditional kimono are probably paying between that and $5000.
Nice Japan Vids, I've heard lots of handy tips and helpful advice. Everything I've heard so far matches up with what my Japanese 3 instructor has said about their culture. You know your stuff, thanks for the advice, it's good to know theres someone out there with reliable tips. Thanks, and keep em coming!
I absolutely LOVE Kimonos. I hope to get one someday, I will definitely take good care of it and wear it on special occasions! :) Thanks for posting this video!

Do japanese people think gaijins look like retards in japanese colthing, eg. kimono? Or does it depend on something?
I'm worried because I'm travelling to Japan next winter and I don't want to come off as ridiculous if I dress up in something similar for new years..?
99Crystals 1 year ago
@99Crystals
If everyone you are with wears them at new year it would be OK for you to also..
if they don't - don't.
It is the group thing ^_^
