Why is it that nobody seems to realize that live drums and sequenced drums are, you know, not the same instrument? Most of the versus arguments about this are obnoxiously shortsighted.
i gotta question ok i know how to put the snare into 32nd notes but my question how do i drag them over to make the blocks small like i watched 1 of ya tutorials n im a lil confused lol

I have watched a number of your videos man, great work. You are very informative and seem very patient. You brought to light things I really didn't know and made reference to a lot of things I did know but wasn't totally sure on. Thanks a lot I and I am sure a lot of others appreciate it. Even after 8 years of making music I still am a bit away from where I would like to see myself in the production world.
Excellent information; to know even this tidbit on velocity, and this push/pull concept, very valualble to know! Also, how the different pieces of music intertwine each other in the spaces like that....I am enlightened! You are by far, "The," fl studio guru...!
Excellent information; to know even this tidbit on velocity, and this push/pull concept, very valualble to know! Also, how the different pieces of music intertwine each other in the spaces like that....I am enlightened!
Tips recording drums, just make em really loud and save the comp as 32 bit float, that way all you gotta do is re record the comp so the drums can be clipped down, that way you get clean snares with lack of distortion, have fun!
@DViAan Thats not an accurate analogy. Saying video killed the radio star, and computer killed the drummer applies because once we've acquired the technology for video, or digital drums, one would logically never return to the previous item. Car killing the walker is illogical as there will always be a need for walking.
@medicwine holy cow, comment from a year ago. i think you noticed the "???" i see how you specified "walking" as moving one place to another, but i used it in a general sense. "Computer killed the drummer" refers to people would rather use computer to program drum sequence than to physically play the drum. My respond "car killed the walker" refers to people would rather use a car to move from A to B than to physically move. But I see your point.
ok after my first 2 hours of studying FL studio...i got something not too bad i can say.but i know just 1% of the tools in there. And i must have done something wrong cause when i play all the sounds on the track its making ugly background noises like it's surrounded or just over gain...cant realy do nothing...did i put too many at the same time?PLEASE
Hopefully everyone here realizes now too - You can use the FPC tool to arrange an entire drum beat in one pattern. The cool thing about this, after you lay the entire beat down in a Piano Roll window - You can select everything at once and quantize the entire piece... that way snares, hi hats, kicks, cymbals fills etc will become "Grooved". :D
is there any way of adding shuffle (timing) to give the beat movement and a real groove, as in drum machine swing from the MPC etc, like in Reason there is a groove machine called regroove and the the drum sampler has built in 'shuffle'
djscratch22 - Just use the FPC generator that came with FL STudio. Right click > Piano Roll and all your samples are available in the Piano Roll. Lay out the tracks and just select everything and apply a Quantization groove to it.
i was wondering if you can show how to do the same drum type of loop that sublime did on summertime that would be great help this one sounds similar but i just havent been able to figure it out yet thanx keep up the good work
Couldnt you have just turned up the"feed dial" in the channel settings for the hat? Kinda like what you did in your old tutorial about how to make a ragetone beat. You turned up the feed dial in channel settings and got the same effect?
I haven't watched this tutorial but I am going to assume this is about offsetting velocities of certain notes/hits and, offsetting the timing on certain notes/hits. I play drums, and I realize that you don't hit everything perfectly on time, and with the exact amount of power.
11:34 "go to town with this thing" hahahahah i love this dudes phrases XDDD.. NFX ur tuts are AMAZING.. but there sssssoooooooooooo ddddddddddddaaaaaaammmmmmmmmnnnnnnnnnnn llllllloooooooonnnnnnnngggggggg D:
It's so much less time consuming just to clone your hi-hat/kick/snare and fill them in then change the volume than adjust the velocity individually. Also, you get a much better sound by layering different drums.

been watchin your vids for about 1 year now, never left a comment. but i have a question. well first of all for some background information i sample off records and sequence them on fl studios. Now the question is how would you make a bass loop to go with some breaks of some melodies off a record. Some of my samples don't have any drums or bass' on them. now drums are easy to lace but bass is a bit harder. i have some single bass tones just to let you know.
Good tips, but what about timing?

I think the info in this video is worth knowing beyond the quantize feature. Those quiet snares really make a difference and are best done manually.
AbouliaTrilobyte 2 years ago 2
Humanizing hi-hats is pretty important when hats are playing alone, like in intro or such.
I noticed this in one song intro that hi-hats have been humanized pretty good, you could think that it is recorded with drum set:
watch?v=B_f2XG5ebZc
Though it can be heard better in real version, but not just the velocity but also tweaked some other ways.
(because human cannot never hit same power even if they aren't doubled)

xzibit should've said, 'jus a lil bit' on Pimp My Ride! LOL
actually da original pattern sounds better than da hybrid, but when da two combine powers in a hiphop/funk trak, it works
ghoset notes simply generate echos, but altering velocities makes it less "lazy producer"
this is neccessary for upcoming amateurs ;)

how do you turn the ghost channels on
Jwells06 4 years ago
You can do that with Alt-V (or in piano roll view / topleft piano roll icon / helpers / bottom option "ghost channels".
Cheers!

been watchin your vids for about 1 year now, never left a comment. but i have a question. well first of all for some background information i sample off records and sequence them on fl studios. Now the question is how would you make a bass loop to go with some breaks of some melodies off a record. Some of my samples don't have any drums or bass' on them. now drums are easy to lace but bass is a bit harder. i have some single bass tones just to let you know.
thanks for your help and time
