i beleive they have now caught the fire bug who set main hall on fire, an 18 yr old lad, does anyone know what plans they have yet for the asylum as i was in there last week and they appear to have built some sort of platform on one of the stairwells, and have taken some of the floorboards up in some of the rooms

good god if they say it was an accident or it was some kids i will go insane.. because how stupid and blind can they be when the truth is right infront on them, how obvious it is the owner wanted to pole the hall down, yet was stopped due to protesters, so the only way would really to distroy it with an unknown fire, so the owner can pull it down and get around the protesters.. its so obvious either question the owner or make him pay to build it back. cause he also got a huge amount of insurance

and also who the hell would be up at such times to start a fire... its so obvious but the police will just wave it bye cause they dont want to be stressed over solving a fire that distroyed such a historic and beautiful building that other people care for and have tried to stop demolition. they should take the owner in for questioning.

Im absolutley devistated to find out someone has done this. Im 20 and have never known about the building until I found it about 5 months ago and explored it. I was really taken back by the sheer size and detail of the building, its presence and the fact its a beautiful building. Unfortunatley developers will only ever see money when looking at this buiding, and will never see it for what it is, or ever appreciate its past and people related with this building. I sincerley hope it dosentcarryon.

it is tragic, but I think the Britain's Most Haunted programee from there was the most disgusting thing I have seen happen there, no ghosts, no nothing but a hardnosed businesswoman playing "ghosts hunting", a beautiful building which served its purpose well, had the most stunning grounds.

it must have been very difficult for the firemen to get to, but I'm not really surprised as it was becoming a place to get into and frighten yourselves silly with, much like the sportsmans arms on the moors.

In my opinion this fire seems very convienient. This fire means that the council and owners now have an decent excuse to demolish the whole building + plus escape fines for lack of security and get rid of the whole bat argument. What an absolutely disgusting act. Whoever did this can expect to be charged not only with arson but also endangering the lives of firemen! Just awful!

I am truely gutted. This is an absolute travesty and a most shameful act by the culprits. If this act was done by "kids" (messing around) then the building should be re-commissioned and they should be put in it. If it was done by someone with a vested interest in having the building razed then they should be imprisoned in gaol.

I have just driven passed the hospital. How sad, so very sad. It makes me want to cry. That hospital has always been part of my life - grandparents, parents and then me too working there. Someone needs locking up for this.

Oh No, this is a disaster, how could anyone destroy such a historical landmark, these people need locking up. i have looked round this place and respected all i have seen, we know who we have to blame, the most haunted team cos when i went, they had left dry wood offcuts everywhere in piles, and theis would of no doubt been the fuel to start the fire, i live in manchester and feel really upset how anyone can do this, it shows the mental status of our present days idiots. soory to hear bad news.

i dont understand why everyone is blaming most haunted for this! fair enuff if there had been stuff left behind by the team but i personally blame the council and other authorities that should be maintaining the building and actually making sure people dont go on the property and take such pathetic, stupid actions as they have! the building has been left to rot which is bad enough, this should be enough to get thru to the councils to actually get off their arses and make an effort to save it!

well just to keep you in the know, the council dont own the property any more, so is not there problem, a property developer had bought land, started demolision then got stopped because bats were found to be there, so mr property developer gets annoyed, , and gets it burnt down, now no bats , no hall, he can now demolish, and build houses sure the wood left behind did help it burn, Bloody most haunted, a bunch of idiots, who have seen that many ghosts but still scream when a slight noise is made
