i saw a programme on truck racing and my first thought was 'How do they transport the trucks from race to race?' Like in formula one its normally the trucks that transport the vehicles to the next location. Now seeing this vid that explains my query. transport a racing truck using another truck lol
@xionz83 that's right because diesels are known for having more particulates in the smoke then petrol but less other emissions, and CFC's, methane from livestock, co2 emissions from power generation or the rest of the industrialised world have nothing to do with it.
Its just started. Those things have to run at OPTIMUM temperature for at least ten minutes before they're ready to race. The excess smoke is the unburned extra fuel required to choke-start it, you have SEEN what they're like on full acceleration from start. They give of more smoke than a paddle-steamer.
I see that nobody knows the diesel engine. All of u who was standing near its like u eated 1000 cigarats per minut in ur lumms is so much dmg u cant imagine. All diesel engines provides cancer.
@SkywalkerTibor They propably keep the idle rpms up, to keep the turbos's reeving high enough and therefore not having to wait for them to spool up from idle when the driver hits the throttle. This would cost them important time when accelerating.
also they dont have dump valves the turbos r matched to a given output.
cars have dumps becaue they need full boost at lower rpm and same boost at much higher rpm without overboosting, trucks rev band is much narrower so by the time boost is hit its near max rpm or at top of green band.

The MAN Diesel with 1100 HP does idle at a rather high RPM
I have seen MAN 8X8 with 1000 HP made into motor homes running in the desert.
Think he needs some assistance putting the truck on the trailer...

i raced these on grid lol the hp was way low but the tourge was rediculously high

@iTzzEuphoriaaaaaa
thats the fun in a diesel, BHP is not the most important thing, the Torque is :D
alphawinger 1 year ago
@alphawinger Yeah especially in these big ass trucks it takes that much tourqe just to make the bastard move !!
iTzzEuphoriaaaaaa 1 year ago
@iTzzEuphoriaaaaaa With 1100 HP the truck probably has 2500 LBS of Torque.

Why is the idle rpm so high?
SkywalkerTibor 1 year ago
@SkywalkerTibor
Probably because the engine is cold.
Also the driver could have been accelerating it.
trobi 1 year ago
@trobi does it not have to do it because of the high compression ?
jazmx82 1 year ago
@jazmx82
Yes, they do have high compression, but thats not the reason for the high idle and the smoke.
trobi 1 year ago
@trobi aw okayy
jazmx82 1 year ago
@trobi
I thought they have a relative low compression because of the high turbo-boost.
LuapIbiza 1 year ago
@trobi the higher the rpm the faster the driver can change gears and get at the racing truck's top speed

@Helpmefly yeah, it sounds sensible.
SkywalkerTibor 1 year ago
@SkywalkerTibor or maybe because it has more aggressive cams
carson0425 1 year ago
@carson0425
There's no need to put aggressive cams on a big turbo'd diesel. It runs with an excess of air.

is that a piece of pipe below exhaust pipe to connect a longer exhaust?
tpvalley 2 years ago 2
yes
JoeL525i 2 years ago
whats it for?
they dont use it for racing do they? I thought it runs as shown for racing, is it road legal?!!!
tpvalley 2 years ago
yes they do, it's a racing truck, it isn't road legal here in Spain
trobi 1 year ago
so why the extra exhaust pipe?
tpvalley 1 year ago
@tpvalley turbo
keeevan 1 year ago
@tpvalley Maybe so the heat from the dump pipe doesn't melt the skirts?
ScotchRB30DET 1 year ago
@ScotchRB30DET
way to big for dump pipe and if the main exhaust doesnt melt them the dump wont!!
good idea though.

@tpvalley Got my wording confused lol, meant to say downpipe as a truck turbo has no wastegate hence no need for an external dump, silly me :P
