I was in my freshman year in high school (1960) when I first heard this song. Had a hard time looking around record bars in Manila before I got a 45 rpm record. Nope, I don't remember finding this in Paul's numerous albums so I bet my 45 rpm copy is a rarity...must be a treasure now.

Many years ago there was a TV show called "Juke Box Jury" hosted by Al Jarvis. A celebrity panelists would vote on new records. Paul Anka sang this song, and it got a very luke warm response...Julie London was on the panel and she didn't like it at all, thought the word "Verboten" was just not in the teen-age vocabulary and that kids could not relate to it. That was the first and last time I heard this song!
The German word 'verboten' means 'forbidden'. It had become such a recognized word in the USA that it was used as part of a joke in an episode of Jackie Gleason's 'Honeymooners' in the 1960s.
