When I was in Rome in May, a local singer in a restaurant near the Coleseum gave me a CD on which were 2 songs from Notre Dame de Paris. I was enchanted by the melodies. When I came back to the U.S. I searched YouTube and found the whole musical and of course Daniel Lavoie i.e. "Parle moi de Florence". Heavenly!!

I wrote and asked him. They are the same color as my daughter's eyes. She's 5, and has stunning eyes, but they don't really have one color. He replied and says they're called, "des yeux pers," which he said means, "eyes that change colour with the sweater you wear." Another French guy I know had not heard that expression, so it's got to be a French-Canadian thing.

Probably. After seeing NDdP live in '99, I got into the music, but youtube didn't exist yet, so after I scratched up the CD, I lost the experience for awhile. In December, I searched for the heck of it and voila! Here was all of this stuff. It might have been you that mentioned he had a myspace account. I created one just to check his out. Of course, Daniel Lavoie would be my favorite... obviously.

Great video! :D Daniel is not only an incredible musician, but he's an incredibly generous and sweet person. I wrote to him in French (my French is horrible, by the way) asking for an autograph for my mom for Mother's Day. I didn't expect anything, but to my surprise he wrote back and included two pics, one for me and one for my mom. Even though it was late, I forgive him; I know he's really busy. It was in time for my birthday, so I was really happy.

That's where he's from. Apparently there's a small French community in the English speaking province of Manitoba. Now he lives south of Montreal somewhere near the St. Lawrence River.

Daniel Lavoie was born in the small town of Dunrea in southwestern Manitoba. He got involved in the French music scene in St. Boniface (Winnipeg's French quarter), and then moved out to Québec to pursue his career. Whenever he comes back home to do a show, it's a "love-in".

It's true: I once just wrote an E-Mail to him remarking it would be great if he did a live-record of his concert "comédies humaine" that he did in 2004 (GREAT Show, worth while the trip to Paris!!). Some weeks or months later I found a letter from him in my letterbox with a signed picture an the answer that he probably would do a record! Well, I never had expected any answer, but of cours it was great getting one! He's my favourite singer and his album "comédies humaine" is the BEST ever!
