I love this song ! One of my all time favorite Spoonful songs. I end up listening to it about four times in a row every time it's on because it's so short of a song. Great music.
This is my favourite song on the album and in the running for best-loved Spoonful. "Forty pounds of feet 'n' tongue" is an excellant folk-poetry, the harp break is flawless, and the whole tune is a fine early example of John Sebastian's commendable quest to bring respect and popularity to the original Bluesmen.
Also that's neither flute, nor quils, or (as I thought) a Swanee whistle but some very skill whistling into cupped hands.
Me and my friend used to do a real loony dance to this...my dads comment was " Why dont you put the same energy into your house chores?"..parents...they just didnt get it
Ditto countjockula... this and Coconut Grove... and Voodoo in My Basement, and all of the rest...

Actually this one was always my favorite off this record (followed closely by Coconut Grove). Thanks for posting this record, which I lost years ago!

For the most annoying song in the world, this trumps basically anything that has been recorded over the past, say, 12 years and counting...

Wow you're right, that is hard to listen to. It does vaguely sound like they used the same scale on the flute that Thomas uses.
