  • Good stuff but, to make the AR more real, update the camera view and CGI together so the two are always in sync. The combined iew will update more sluggishly (at the speed of the slower of the two) but at least they won't separate...

  • Excellent work. Obviously tracking cant give very good alignment yet. (Probably need point-clouds of citys rather then just gps for that). Still, its really nice to see movements towards 3d, as thats where the future lies. I'm still concerned with the over-centralisation of current AR solutions and the inability of personal communication. But as far as companys goes, Layer seems a tad ahead of the rest.

  • Its not about the power....the iPhone (etc) have around the power of the PS2. Maybe a smidge below, but not vastely. They can do *much* better graphics then this.

However, thats not what its about. The real problem that Layer (and others) are working against, is trying to align 3d graphics to the world accurately. Thats hard. Pointless even remotely having realistic graphics, if the 3d isnt "fixed" isnt it? That would be like wanting modern CGI in a film, before you even got a decent projector.

  • Right now it appears to be "pointless and stupid", but this is the start of something REALLY big. Imagine your car's windshield having one of those fancy HUDs, but with augmented stuff such as pre-computed steering vectors, a lockbox around pedestrians in the dark and so on. It's just the start of a cool future, really.

  • Agree!

  • Absolutely.

AR will effect just about every industry and most aspects of our lives.

  • you realize google is leading the way right? augmented reality has been around on android for some time now and now is starting to impliment 3d, where as the iphone has just released their first augmented reality browser which is very basic, and iphone fans are raving.

  • THIS is why we should all be thankful to be living in the 21st century.
