Have a look at the Star Trek Armada II Fleet Operations Mod (just google it) - it's great, virtually everything is updated and improved! Actually, it's much like Armada III if it had ever been published!

I think it's weird how in Armada 2, the Cardassians are portrayed as an extremely powerful empire that have awe inspiring weapons, whereas in the series, they are portrayed as a realtively weak empire that fight a losing war with the Klingons.

@Omnikron228 You want to know something really screw up..

There is an early epsiode in TNG where the Enterprise fights a Cardassian warship in series 4 or 5 and data mention the Cardassians don't have sheild technology nor do they have weapons to take on the Enterprise. With just two shots from proton torpodos they took out a Cardassian ship really easy and it blow up. But when DS9 came around and during season 8 of TNG the Cardassian technology was on the same level as Federation.

@WarshipAngelus I can remember that episode in TNG. As for explaining how they got the new weapons and shields in DS9, I think the Dominion gave it to them as soon as the Cardassians joined. That's how they got be so powerful, temporarily at least.

@WarshipAngelus If the Cardassians didnt have shield technology then they had strong armor plating. Because the Cardassian war ship is supposed to be a tough fight even for the Enterprise They are very powerful ships. However you could just say that there technology advanced or like Omnikron said they could have had integrated technology from the Dominion. Or its one of those unfortunate things where the writers dont explain it like the Klingon forehead which didnt exist in the original series

@Omnikron228 The Cardassians were a huge powerful empire in the series. It wasnt until Deep Space 9 season 5 when Worf came aboard. This was when the Klingon's (LOL my computer didnt mark Klingon as a misspelled word. Its in my computers dictionary) denounced the Klingon/Federation treaty and went to war with Cardassia and The Federation. By the end of this war The Cardassian Empire was brought to their knees. It wasnt until they Joined forces with the Dominion that they reclaimed their empire.

@Blade5276 I can remember occasional hostilities between the Federation and the Cardassian Union, but other than that, the Federation never minded the Cardassians as a big enough threat until the Dominion War. And O'Brien's prowess at Setlik III showed how strong the Cardassian going head to head with the Federation really was. Lol, I sound like a Trekie Geek, but I don't care. YAY NERDS!!!

@Omnikron228 Your right I dont think the Cardassians were overly hostile with the federation but that slowly changed when the Federation got involved with the Cardassian occupation of Bajor. Which then manifested into the Dominion war. With the creation of the DS9 show the Cardassians became a metaphor for the Nazi regime and of course the Bajorans became a metaphor for the Jews. which gave the Cardassians a more sinister quality then first depicted on TNG.

I thought that Armada 1 was much better. I felt that the controls in Armada 2 were too clumsy to quickly control the ships and stations. Also, the graphics quality in 2 BLEW! The graphic detaling seemed to be quickly drawn. Even after setting the graphics settings on both the game and my video card to max, the detailing was still a ROYAL MESS! On a plus note, I did like the new stations, ships, and special ship and station features.

I remember I used to play this game, I must have clocked up 30 hours or something on random skirmishes ;-D I loved the large tactical cubes you could create with the Borg, and assimilating planets looked so pretty 3-5 years ago. I can't believe I lost the disk, I have GOT to get it again.

Fusion cube was underpowered and too hard to assemble. To be honest, I loved the first Armada intro much better.

I loved the first Armada's intro as well, especially's Worf's manoeuvre through the Warbird. It seems like Armada had a better plot than Armada II.

If you guys like this game, which I do as well. Check out the fleet operations MOD for Armada II. Even if they sold it in stores right now it would be totally worth fifty bucks. So it's even better because it's free!

@quaddmgtech Heck yeah, Fleetops *is* the sequel to Armada as far as I'm concerned. It just happens to run on the A-II engine.

The only redeeming factors of original armada were some of the music, and the USS Incursion cameo.

Well, it doesn't totally suck on console. Halo Wars is pretty decent. I enjoy it. But you're right that it's no where near as in-depth an experience as Armada II. God I wish I could find my copy again. Freaking love this game.

They don't, they just figure out how to bring an 8472 ship though to our universe. Even if the Kulinor (the class of ship that summons the bioship) is the closest, the 8472 ship will attack it. Simple really...

There's a box set with Armada 1, 2 and Voyager elite force (fps) 1 and the expansion out there for about £25. Well worth it for 4 games.
