  • She's boring

  • The music cut was horrible, but the performance was excellent. Incredible triple full at the end there.

  • I dont think the American team did badly here at all, they were young and fresh (for the most part) and it just happens that Romania and Russia were hugely better at the time..... Plus they got the Team Bronze 10 years later, due to Yang Yuns 'secret'

  • @tomsk14 It was actually Dong Fangxiao. They still aren't able to prove that Yang Yun was 14. I agree. The U.S. was good (but not great) and just weren't as consistent as they were in '96. Romania and Russia were far better...but I still think Russia was better than Romania...unfortunately Russia had a few too many big mistakes :( But...Russia could come back this year! :)

  • Black gymnast: Daiane dos Santos

  • One the current British Team black gymnasts are Beckie Downie, Nicole Hibbert and Danusha Francis...

  • Dawes is most likely the most famous and most successful black gymnast of them all, but another great black gymnast was Stella Umeh, she did get the credit she deserved though.........

  • @afgymnast96 Gabrielle Douglas, Olivia Courtney, Britney Ranzy are also black. I kno there's many more too!

  • I never knew there were black gymnists

  • @nicklebaby for the us,there have been a few,but not a lot.they are:

    betty okino

    dominique dawes

    tasha schwikert

    annia portuondo hatch

    darlene hill

    kytra hunter

this was a short list.i know there are many more, but i took only the ones that were tops in the country.i probably missed some,so please tell me of more

  • @afgymnast96 Ashley Miles was another one.

  • @afgymnast96 If I may chime in for history, every gymnastics fan should know about the great Diann Durham from Gary, Indiana. She was Bela Karolyi's first American star & Mary Lou Retton's more famous gymmate pre-1984. Diann was the 1983 U.S. national AA champ & also won three of the 4 individual events. Injuries hampered her 84 season & she was controversially left off the 1984 Olympic team.

  • @afgymnast96 UM also Joyce Wilborn and Angela Denkins!

  • @mrpatriot83 No kidding, I don't care how small Chinese gymnasts are compared to other countries, there's no way those girls were 16. Too bad they really can't prove it now, unless someone comes forward but I can't see that happening.

  • NEVER HEARD OF HER OMG!

  • she stuck like everything!

  • Did anyone hear that the US is getting the team bronze medal for 2000?

  • @cristinamariagirl I heard but can't remember the reason behind it, can you fill me in? Just curious, thanks :)

  • @tmwalkerm One of the chinese gymnasts was found to of been lying about her age, meaning she wasn't old enough to compete at the olympics. As china got the team Bronze, they had that medal taken away from them, which meant USA went from 4th place to 3rd,getting them the bronze medal.

  • @GraceEleganceDestiny Thanks, good for them. Wonder if they're going to investigate the 2008 team as well, some of those girls looked about 10.

  • @tmwalkerm i heard it was because they found that a member of the chinese team was too young, like GraceEleganceDestiny said.

  • That dismount as awesome!

  • Such a shame. She did her part... but her teammates didn't. If they had, they may have won bronze. If Ray, Maloney and Dantzscher looked like they did at Nationals.... They could've beat Romania; which would've meant gold. But, they would've needed the Russians to still make the mistakes they ended up making in these team finals. When the Russians hit.... they were untouchable.

  • Out of any gymnast, my favorite on floor has to be Dominique Dawes. But I think that Dominique was gettin too old, and her body wasn't as in shape as it used to be. She didn't prove herself in this olympics. Also, part of me thinks Dominique only decided to try for another Olympics, because Shannon Miller wanted to do another one. And we all know that Dominique probably still holds a grudge about the fact that she was in Shannon's shadow for a long time, and wanted to have something over her.

  • funny you say that because I was thinking the same thing and I'm a huge Dawes fan.

  • Yeah. Not taking anything away from Dom, because she was an AMAZING athlete. I think she was just probably in a little over her head seeing as how she was 23 years old. lol. And Tasha was definitely awesome in this olympics, and this is coming from someone who is not a Tasha fan at all.

  • @Mikizzle15 I think Dawes and Miller were friends. Dawes's problem was never Miller, it was avoiding fuckups in major meets.

  • @grafgirl27 I agree, after 3 Olympic games they had a mutual respect for each other.

  • @Mikizzle15 Both Shannon and Dominique came out of retirement too late! They should have been training 2 years earlier, but they both came back or started training more seriouslly in the Gym a year before! If Shannon had just given Vault up, and focused on Beam and Floor, she would have brought in some good numbers, because she had already improved and had an amazing Bars in 2000!

  • Tasha did great at these Olympics. She outperformed alot of her teammates.

  • after watching this, she was by far the only consistent member of the team during this final.

  • Definitely the best floor routine for the Americans in this final.

  • LOVE THE TRIPLE FULL!

  • No, she is not an artistic Khorkina, but the choreography did flow nicely with the music

  • Sorry but this routine lacked the necessary choreography to go along with the music and Schwikert doesn't strike me as being an "artistic" gymnast. Her tumbling was good but the routine just didn't flow right.

  • she is good, but this music is absolutely not in line with whatever she is doing out there... whoever came up with the idea to choreograph a routine to this music for this young lady was not thinking at all.. :?

  • WONDERFUL triple full. I also liked the way she bounced out of her Shushunova-- directly onto her back. Go Tasha!

  • Love the triple full!

  • Whats interesting, is that Bela gave her this music which was betty OKino;s from 1991. If you compare the choreography, you can see how immature the dance is here, its almost embarrassing.

  • Cn you tumble like that eh?

  • Can you spell the word "can"?

  • If i was writting an essay, then i would spell it correctly. But, since you want to post such bitchy comments; can you spell ''Okino's'' No, i don't think so. So get over yourself and grow up. Have you EVER been to the Olympics as an athlete, i doubt it a LOT!

  • People are entitled to their opinions on here, so when the occasional moron says, "Can you do better?" it merits an equally annoying and trivial response. Since I know MORE about gymnastics and have been following it longer than you have, I have the right and the need to comment on things on there in a frank and honest way. You may read my posts and hopefully learn more about the sport as well. Read and learn, child.

  • Really? This is a child dude. Haha What a loser.

  • agree!

  • I like Dawes but am not sure why she made the 2000 team. She really brought nothing to the U.S team by that point except her bars work but they had so many women who could score in that range in bars anyway. Then again the exact same could be said for Beckerman and Miller then too. I guess the only alternative left is Atler. She was a total headcase by that point in time but would she have been worth taking for her risky potential of big vault, beam, and floor scores under the 5-4 format?

  • agree muffy, well said

  • Just imagine how much it would have helped the U.S if Atler hadnt become such a headcase in 2000. She could have put up big scores on all of vault, beam, and floor and gained them a ton of points. She wouldnt have even had to do bars since she was too pitiful on bars to have any shot of an AA medal anyway, but she could have done alot for the U.S team and herself on the other 3 events.

  • I'm 13, and i know plenty about gymnastics. How old are you? Plus, i didn't say you weren't entitled to your own opinion, anyway.

  • Oh we have a tween here. Sorry I dont dialogue with minors who are still in middle school. You are young, inexperienced, and have little to offer here. Stand back and let the pros do the commentating here, ok? I will no longer engage in discussions with you.

  • She's 13 dude. There for not a tween. Those are kids in there early 20's. Don't you know anything? Also, your level of maturity isn't showing by fighting with a little kid and putting them down by saying they can't share their opinion. Grow up man.

  • Sorry, people who insult others must be dealt with regardless of age. Period. I dont care if you share your opinion, but dont tell me what to do, asshole.

  • "She's 13 dude. There for not a tween. Those are kids in there early 20's. Don't you know anything?" A 'tween is actually a kid aged 10 - 12. No longer children but not quite teens.

  • metsdude, seriously get your head out of your ass. you act like you're the god of gymnastics and know everything there is to know about it. news flash-just cause you sit on your ass and watch youtube videos all day doesn't mean you know all about it so chill out. take it from someone who use to compete on the floor with these people. so thanks

  • Ah News flash....My experience is a lot more than sitting on my ass and watching videos. Ive coached and competed longer than youve been alive, so do me a favor stick your own head up your ass and mind your fucking business, ok?

  • oh so now you know all about me and how old i am? let me correct myself- i guess you do know everything about everyone. wow could have fooled me.

  • @muffycat26 I couldn't agree more.

  • @muffycat26 I think 1 thing many ppl overlook is how (until 2000 team prelims bb) Dawes was always the most consistent performer in team comp. I think a big part of her being there was that they knew 9/10, Dawes would hit, and her hit score could support 1 of the newer/less exp gymns who may have faultered.

As for Atler, that was truly just a bag of what if's @ that point.but if she was there n could hit, there's no way she couldnt have helped the team to a medal regardless of Chinas age issue

  • @dmann3g I think if they would have taken Bars away from Atler, and made her just focus on the other 3, which she was amazing at, I think she would have brought some high scores in! But there is also a lot of stuff that was going on during that time in her personal life, coach, and Bella telling her that he would come out of retirement to coach her, and then flaking on she and her mom, leaving them hanging after she left her long time coaches! Even having the alternate Alyssa Beckerman....

  • what was her score?

  • she got a 9.6

  • I thought she got a 9.675? or .687. I can't remember.

  • she got a 9.600 on floor, but she did get a 9.675 on bars :)

  • I believe she scored 9.7 on bars. I'll check again though because now I'm not sure.

  • I think she performed the absolute best she could do at that time! She really stepped up to the plate for Team USA and I love her..

  • that double lay was amazing. even with the 2 previous olympians on the team.... she proved to be the most consistent.

  • One of my favorite routines from Tasha.

  • is it just me or does she look like shawn. her body type is almost exactley the same except shes a little taller.

  • No, Shawn's legs are broader than her shoulders. Shawn's built like Zmeskal.

  • yeh il have to agree with that

Shawn came second in individual all around this year aye?

  • Yep, Nastia topped her for gold.

  • love that triple full

  • Tasha is an awesome floor worker but leading up to 2004 the injuries just prevented her from showing what she was really capapble of! One of my all time favorites gymnasts!

  • You have to remember the injuries that really hindered her career in 2002-2003.. She was tumbling a 1/2 in 1/2 out+punch front at 02 Nationals, and the plan was to add the DBL Layout as a 2nd pass, but with the injuries, it wasn't possible..

  • She did the 1/2 in 1/2 out to punch front in prelims at the 2003 Worlds too but fell on it. She also warmed up a double layout at one of the training camps leading up to the 2003 Worlds as well.

  • That makes me really sad. She would have had one of the most difficult routines of that time with a 1/2 in 1/2 out+punch front, double layout, 2 1/2 punch layout front, and ended with a double pike. It's harder than Ponors 2004 routine. Also Tasha's dance and leaps were awesome compared to some girls.

  • Her tumbling got weaker as she got older. The double layout looks so much better than a tucked full-in.

  • it's not easy to keep the same level of difficulty as the body changes and many injuries pile up with the years.

  • True plus the code of points changed.

  • Your right, I really liked the code of points from 2000, great mix of difficulty with artistry and dance.

  • Best ever tumbling from Tasha!!
