I repsectfully disagree. I thought REM's last really solid record was Automatic for the people" but you should give this song and disc another shot. This song not only has a great opening bass line, the lyrical content is relevant and masterfully written with just enough sneer on the vocals. The rest of the album is a mix of social commentary delivered with urgency and infectious choruses without sounding forced. Even their more mid-tempo songs have some biting satyrical lyrics

Sorry it is an average album. It is not a patch on 'Fables of the reconstruction' or life's rich pageant. This is an outstanding song - and I think REM are the greatest and best there will ever be but lets face it, they have nothing left to say!
