  • imagine what it feels like to have jimmy page playing rythym for you

  • To all the small dicksters here... ITS NOT A RACE...

    Its about what sounds good.....

  • someone please put this on itunes

  • I just love the diversity of style in this video.

  • The Edge's bit from 2:23 is magical, stand out bit of a quite frankly monstrous performance by all 3!

  • roarsomeness

  • The ending nearly broke my heart. It was so beautiful. You just have these 3 epic guitarists full of joy and "The Rain Song" running in the background... God I love it!

  • is this in open d tuning ? thanks

  • @ledzeppelinfan3520 i guess it is

  • Hey at 2:30 Edge has a quite brilliant part.Don't make him down just because he doesn't play in a virtuous band. They are all three in the right spot! And no,i am no U2 Fan,i prefer THE White Stripes!

  • Jack White has the best Sound with his Cheap Guitar :D

  • James Hetfield ftw The man is is the absolute riffmaster

  • @ios4ever .. Page and Iommi are the riff masters

  • @DoMinC246 thats true

  • Jack White, Page and Slash is top 3 for me, but this movie is 100% great anyways. These 3 should get a cup of coffee once in a while and record it :) Jsut great movie.

  • i hate those guys that lose oll their time in new ultra heavy speed solo techniques...maybe thats why i dont like heavy metal...I mean its good to know many helpfull techniques...but the main think is to express yourself using your inspiration, imgination and creativity

  • in my opinion Brian May should have also been invited to play along with these three musicians..

  • it's feeding my soul

  • is the song in open g tuning?

  • @JonasSkater97 no it's open A

  • @JonasSkater97 the original w. zep is in open g

  • What I see is 2 common guys and a god!

Edge and Jack, in a man fight trying to get as high as nails of Page. :')

I'll tell u too one thing, you wont be succeded!

  • This song suits Jack so much, he should cover it!

  • the Edge seems rather out of place, the other two though...so much feeling.. so much character there's just something ridiculously satisfying about the dirty, messy, but truly gorgeous playing displayed by both,, don't get me wrong the Edge is good but feel-wise he doesn't hold a candle to Page or White

  • I'de love these three to collaberate on an album together. It would be awesome.

  • its quite beautiful how when they solo, the egde plays a real irish keltic rock feel blues, white plays agressif mean old blues, and page plays hard rocking blues.

it just fuses brilliantly together, just as the movie sould be.

  • Jack White was actually playing the slide riff from Spongebob Squarepants

  • now, that, was ORGASMIC

  • They sure dig off each others vibes.

  • Why do you dislake Edge? Get calm! He's very technical and amazing guitarist such the other both. They have got different styles. So dont push on Edge!

  • @nazzik112358 I personally don't like Edge because he uses too many effects on his guitar to cover his sloppy or just overall bad guitar playing.

  • They all play excellently in this cover. :D I just love how their solo's just feed off each other.

  • omg, even though this is intensely epic, I have to have some criticism, am I the only one noticing that Jimmy Page is holding a Les Paul (different guitar) at the end of the clip during the bit they are laughing? that disappoints me, that they're faking the authenticity of it all I mean.

  • @GaertnerJan i think that is different clip, as i can remember

  • @4gethigh I certainly hope so

  • @GaertnerJan I don't think you notice but Jimmy turns around to pick the Les Paul... It´s not visible on the footage but he makes the move. Then the camera switches to Edge and Jack ;) You only see what you want to see my friend.

  • jack white is god.

  • @GuitarFreak2103 absolutely yes

  • It's like 2 children being taught by the master, after all he sold his soul. Great stuff

  • Damn! That blues!

  • The Edge looks so out of place, like the time Ali G met the Biker Boys.

  • Comment removed

  • Rain song matched so much for that moment! Love this movie!

  • haha aw i felt sorry for the edge

  • godlike melody.....

  • I wonder who's the biggest Blind Willie Johnson fan.

  • @Maquiladora95 Jack White, no doubt!

  • edge sucks! if h was replaced by jeff beck , then this would be the greatest film ever

  • people who say that the edge has nothing to do with page or white are either literally retarded or simply deaf; they are all geniuses in their own style

  • edge has that singing, melodic slide , and jack has the gritty -more bluesy slide

both completely different and both amazing

  • any1 noticed that they all use the slide on a diferent finguer?..lol

  • Nobody beat anyone, they fed of each other. Each has his own style which takes the piece to a different and interesting direction. Every moment of genius in this track is there because they inspired each other.

  • shut up edge

  • at 2.26 edge comes up with something magical and page knows it aswell, great moment

  • did anyone notice at 3.01 the rain song starts playing?

  • @gnayiew95 your right

  • I think the edge is great-but the haters gotta know that jimmy page is jimmy page (the chuck norris of guitar) and hes been playing this song for decades-and jack white is more adept at slide and open A-however, the edge brings a tone that no one else brings to guitar and you can hear people ripping him off in all alternative music nowdays

  • white cant stop using the whammy!

  • This film was about bringing three inspiring musicians from three different eras and backgrounds to play as one and share their guitaring history, style, tone etc so why people are talking about how the edge might not fit in on this song or jack white on "i will follow" for example is ridiculous , they were there to share their talent and create exactly what u are seeing , people who are saying this is shit are wrong, all three of them rock here and are great and inspirational guitar players

  • Comment removed

  • i almost jizzed. this is every guitarist's dream.

  • You are saying that Jack White is beating the Edge in that video? Well it is not true! It is in open A tuning. Jack basically knows that tunign cos he made a In my time of Dying rip of, which is called Catch Hell Blues. Im pretty sure that this is the first time that the Edge is using this tuning! Im a great Jack White's fan and i dont like U2 but you are just talking shit all over again. And you dont know anything about guitar playing;/ The Edge done a very good job here, trust me;)

  • HOW COULD ANY TRUE GUITARIST BE DISSAPIONTED WITH THIS? I know we all have different opinions, likes and dislikes, but come on.

what a great, varied mix of styles and tones, all playing a great tune.

If you dont like it, its because you focused far to much on the guitar and not the person or soul playing it.

Thats such a classic and tragic technical guitarist mistake.

  • @moonsugar1 So true man, always naggin' ..............not interesting at all

  • @moonsugar1 TRUE, and especially the bashing of Jack White, I don't get it....as for the selection, they probably couldn't have 3 more modest and down-to-earth top guitarists of each generation for this movie, imagine if John Mayer and Joe Satriani (not that I think they are not great guitarists) would have been chosen instead of Jack and The Edge...the smell of the pilling heap of stinking ego would probably fogged the cameras lenses...

  • Comment removed

  • @dixxjamm I thought Satriani was quite a humble guy?

  • @JamieMoggridge same with Mayer...

  • @1Guug Nahh, he's pretty cocky at shows and stuff, but, then again, he is good

  • @JamieMoggridge

He is. And to be honest, he's probably more rooted in blues and slide playing than Edge. But I guess he's just not really popular enough to be playing with these guys.

  • @moonsugar1 Couldn't agree more. Music seems to take a second place to the shred fest in just about any guitar store you visit. It's just a bit more of the "how big is your's" attitude. Song writing MAY become important after mastering to copy yet another solo. I am just so tired of a meeting place full of people who love guitar and could have valuable or interesting discussions turning into a school playground.

  • @moonsugar1 finally some1 who is getting the point...

guitar playing is about expressing yourself in music not only about how much hits you do in a minute...

  • @moonsugar1 true enough but fuck that U2 guy.. hes no artist

  • @moonsugar1 The Edge has no soul playing it, I'm sorry.

  • @maus2111 Listen Im certainly no U2 fan and the Edge isnt somone I'd site as an inspiration personally, but part of being a musician is understanding that different people like different things, and that the more open minded you are the better. Im sure somone out there finds his playing very soulfull, even if its not our thing.

  • It is astonishing really, how Edge's playing lacks any kind of motion.I am not judging that, but watching Jimmy and Jack,Edge seems strange and somehow out of place. It's funny how easy he makes it look.I mean U look at the other guitar players and U can feel (and see by their movement) that they are struggling to create the sound that they have in their head (especially in the solos). However Edge always stands and erect and he looks so cool, because he makes it look so easy!!!

  • 2:36 ...i die.

  • I get why The Edge was in the movie and there is no doubt he is a great musician, he just sucks at playing guitar. For all he can do with it, he could play keyboard and would still be just as influential.

  • like crazy jack's face

  • Feel like saying something about Edge in this film, and specifically in this clip. Watch how Jimmy P responds to him at the end - the look on his face at 3.04 says it all - shared joy and respect in Edge's take on the piece. That being said, I get the feeling that Edge thinks he is somehow less than Page (and his references to punk don't help), it's a pity if it's the case because the canon of U2's music speaks volumes about Edge's talent...

  • @michaelvankampen that's cos the edge is nowhere near what jimmy was.without his gazillion effects the edge is fuck all.i think that if you gave the edge a guitar and amp only we would see his creative weakness because he ain't got his effects board to fall back onto.

That said each and everyone to his own.Three rock legends, imagine Mark Knoopfler,Jimmy Page and David Gilmour. That would be immense.

When i watched the film i felt disappointed to be honest.

  • @michaelvankampen He is definitely less than Jimmy Page, but a great guitarist nevertheless!

  • People who give shit to the edge just don't know what guitar, composition and creativity are...i just pity them

  • Comment removed

  • eric clapton would fit in quiet nicely there..

  • What guitar is jimmy page playing ? absaloubtly stunning

  • @xEnZoProDucTioNz

I think it's a Gibson es 175 but don't hold me too that

  • @sickheadc123 it's more an ES350 from the 50's...

  • @xEnZoProDucTioNz

That is GIBSON SUPER 400. But that particular one that JIMMY plays is his customized version of it :)

  • This is a great Led Zep track & this version is brilliant. Edge & Jack steal it & make it their own.

  • I swear, seeing them play is just like seeing them having a conversation with brilliant ideas.

  • @miezulet a guitarrist's mind is exposed in their work and in this case it is a conversation, each guitar has its own personality and everything from the way you play a song to the material of the guitar and the strings and everything you add in like distorsion just make it more your own and it gives it a mind of its own, an identity. Any person who plays the guitar because they feel it, not because they wanna be cool in front of their friends knows that

  • @matleboss94 ok....I'm not sure what the last phrase had to do with what i said, but ok...

  • @miezulet guitar noobs if you will think of the guitar as nothing more than an "instrument" and not the gateway to musical expression it really is. I wrote the last phrase because real guitar players use their guitar as a way to communicate thats all

  • 5 poor peoples without ears!

  • edge has got his slide on the wrong finger...

  • @youstolemybaby

There's no wrong finger for a bottleneck. v.v

  • @Murihoro sure there is, you need your top fingers free, slide on pinky or ring finger,

  • Comment removed

  • @youstolemybaby when you're edge, or jimmy page, or jack white, it's you who says which is the right finger for the slides

  • @youstolemybaby lol at you telling the Edge he's doing it wrong :P

  • They should have got someone more talented and less pompous then "The Edge"... Umm Eric Clapton?? Eddie Van Halen? Kirk Hemmett? Slash?? I mean "The Edge" is cool with his two notes and 3,000 effects but I want to see someone with some real passion. But thats just me...

  • @Arinaldi87 I agree there were people who were more fitted to be included. But the whole point of Edge being there was to get a guitarist from each different world. There's Jimmy Paige who pretty much influenced all guitarists, then there's Jack White who is keeping the blues alive and then we have the edge with his 'robotic/futuristic' way of playing guitar.

  • Comment removed

  • @Barneymanure @Barneymanure I'm not going to disagree with that... But I watch this jam over and over again, and just think about what it would sound like if the got one of those other guitarist to fill in that spot.

  • at 2:46 jack white looks at edge like "PWND"

  • @mrbrainless17

    what hendrix where?

  • 1.MAKE A HEART WITH YOUR HANDS

    2.THINK OF YOUR CRUSH

3.KISS THE HOLE OF YOUR FAKE HEART

4.PUT YOUR FAKE HEART ON YOUR REAL HEART

5.POST THIS TO YOUR FAVORITE SONG

6.TOMORROW WILL BE THE BEST DAY OF YOUR LIFE

  • My ears got raped by those guitars, felt better than sex

  • After this movie ive gotten into jack whites music alot more, he really is a great musican

  • edge is fucking shit compared to jimi

  • @MrBrainless17

    bla bla bla

their relationship includes a great amount of respect towards each other!!

Let Jimmy play a u2 song....maybe he would fail...

let edge play a led zeppelin song...probably he would fail too...

they are good at that what they're doing!

Jimmy is a legend that's true...

but edge is not fucking shit compared to him!

  • @U2Purple

let edge play a led zeppelin song...probably he would fail too...

    Probably??

I love u2, and edge isn't absolutely fucking shit..but he can't.. Maybe he can play Tangerine, but nothing else...

He's like ringo star, a fortunate son!

  • @jimmipax

okay probably was the wrong word...

he would suck on led zeppelin okay..

but he definitely created his very own, unique style

he's just an other kind of guitar player

he respects the old legends and thats good.

    i love u2, too;)

  • I actually begin to miss the parts of The Edge and Jack White when I hear the original recording. These 3 rule.

  • edge ruins it

  • You know everytime i watch an guitar clip on youtube you guys are like, NO WAY! THE EDGE SUCKS. FUCK HIM FOR USING EFFECTS. or comments like Buckethead is way better than slash/ buckethead is better than every guitarist in the world. I mean c'mon every guitarist has his own specialty so does the edge, so does slash. The edge is maby not in skill better than white nor page but almost every pop song nowadays uses guitar riffs of the edge. So he probably is a good guitarist.

  • 2:08 jack's face ;D i love him for that, he's awesome

  • Anyone knows in what tuning are they?

    Thanks ;)

  • @M1H4U Open G :)

  • huuuuuhggh. Thanks! Masters Thank you!

  • Well, well, well, so I can die easy...

    Pure awesomeness +.+

  • wow edge is actually a really good slide player and i love that tone:}

  • @ChasingAmyGlasgow Edge wouldnt have got anywhere near where he is today with being crap.... and thats without his effects. All the haters on these vids need to lighten up, he has his own style, and it takes ability to use the effects the way he does.

His tone is great here as you say :-)

  • @ChasingAmyGlasgow are you fucking deaf the edge is shit

  • Is it just me, or does Jack White resemble Marilyn Manson (albeith thinner, since the man has gained weight due to being in his late 30s/earl 40s nowadays compared to ACSS/MA days)

  • THe strom ic coming. Ow no it's The GReat Three

  • so where is SLASH?

  • @aldaa83 Who or what is slash?

    xD

  • @aldaa83 watching this realising he's nothing compared to Jack White.

  • Jimmy Page made this song, is the most experienced guitarist, was in the most popular and in my opinion best band out of the three, and creates the most raw, beautiful, and pure rock sound in this song.

    JIMMY PAGE RULES.

  • at 2:36 look at edge's face xD

he know's hes been beat :D

  • @RuffRaider69 oh so you can see through the back of his head now can ya? Ya plank

  • They're all great, but Jimmy Page is pure magic!

  • I woulld have paid so much to be there while they recorded this documentary. Just sit there and soak in all that awesomeness

  • the edge + jimmy + jack = rory gallagher :P

if you were to look away from the screen and taking in all the guitars, you'd swear you were listening to a rory recording!

  • this is fucking awsome can ani1 tell me how to get that efect that jack white uses

  • @00ASSASSINATION It might be a whammy pedal, 1octave higher then normal. He also uses other effect but I don't know them all, try the internet, you'd probably find it.

  • ARREPIEI-ME!

  • This version is just pure stunning rock 'n roll.

  • ...when the guitars become the minds' extension...!

  • everyone in his role i believe edge is a pro guitarist like the others even if we like a little better the guitar style of the other two...i wish those three guys make an instrumental album together!2 rock to die -4-

  • Jack is strong at improvising here, I think that his blues background helps here. The Edge was better in a studio, producing a specific sound, I dont think he can ad lib it as well as JP and JW.

  • Wow, this video rules! These guys are amazing. The genious guitar playing of Jack White and Jimmy Page, with the typical U2 sound woven into it from The Edge. Brilliant ... Beautiful!

  • Wirklich ein Traum. Höre es gerade das 5. mal am Stück - Wahnsinn

  • Jimmy rules!

  • amazin

  • This came on tv in my country. Sometimes I had eargasms. It was awesome.

  • I really dig the bit the Edge plays around 2:30

  • Jimmy Page = Beethoven of Rock (Besides his hair..)

  • gained alot more respect for jack white after watching this film and am actually concidering him to be in the top 10 guitarists of all time after watching documenterys on the white stripes and doing alot of research.

  • There's some cats playin' man.

  • 4 people prefer to listen to justin bieber screamin his only left testicle out.

  • wow i wish i can join them playing the guitar nice~

  • all proceeds gotowards helping the people who disliked this gain back there eyes and ears

  • the edge doesnt fit atall

  • just get the feeling the edge is a bit out of his depth here...

  • so much talent ...ahhh were too look haha.. ledgends

  • That brutal sound of Jimmy Page, then the rawness of Jack White And then that magical sound of The Edge is just the cherrry on top!!! Can't see why anyone wouldn't like any of these three. Just amazing!

  • Jack White looks unwashed and unwell

  • i love how they all laugh at the end, it's clear they really enjoy themselves

  • now this is what jamming is truly all about!

  • i think this film had a perfect mix of musican who all had a right to be there. Neither were the same....imagine if it had been three guitar virtiousos..imagaine how boring it would have been!!!

  • does anyone know how their guitars are tuned or are they all open E ?

  • @JanKenk123 I think they're all open E. It sounds about right.

  • @Tarnaggy I'm more convinced it's the same tuning as on That's the way - open G

  • at the very end wen they are all laughin all the guitars change. jimmy and d edge are playin les pauls... still great though
