I remember playing this but i dont think i completed it cos by about level 8 i found it really, really repetitive and the story didnt seem to be developing. Still fun just a bit tedious after a bit.

Maybe i just need to re-play it and my opinion of it will improve.

I was thinking about getting this game, but I don't even own a gamepad....I figured I'd kinda need one, but after watching this first part of this playthrough I see maybe that isn't the case? Normally I'd just use mouse + keyboard for FPS/RTS games and figured a pad would be better for this. So, OTG (or anybody else who's used both control methods) which would YOU recommend?

Because I would have to BUY a controller to try it out myself so that would be something I'd like to avoid if possible.

Keyboard is fine in my opinion.

The only thing is that you might have to trial and error which combination of keys you like. No biggie though.

i myself played it on pc with the 360 controller and used the keyboard for healing cause i didnt know what the 360 button was to heal without going into the menu screen =p

i'm used to the controls in dead space with the 360 pad, cause i'm more of a console gamer. but if you're more of a pc gamer, i'd suggest trying it with mouse and keyboard first, and if that doesn't work out, you can still buy a 360 controller.

I still haven't beaten this game. It freaks the hell out of me. I'm a very sound-oriented person. So, the musical cues and the sound-effects for this game are brilliant. Oh! And Dead Space recently won an award for best sound design! 8D Yay, Dead Space sound team! I think this game was refreshing in terms of an attempt at a recent survival horror that wasn't Resident Evil or Silent Hill. Kudos to Dead Space! You get points for trying and I think they succeeded in several areas. ^_^

This is true, but Dead Space doesn't focus on psychological horror. It's physical horror. Hence the warped monsters and such. Silent Hill and Dead Space are two very different mediums of the Survival Horror genre. I like both games, but their differences are obvious. ^_^

By the way OTG, I sorta feel you on the whole over the shoulder stuff. My problem's that you have a big blind spot to your IMMEDIATE left more often than not, so everything off to your immediate and (somewhat) distant left is cut off unless you turn around. You get used to it over time though.

Could work if done right. It could also backfire horribly if done wrong. I'd cast any stones after seeing the end result. The game design in Dead Space has a true artistic feel to it but it really doesn't combine and invent genres. The heavy use of sound in Dead Space is quite good speaking of artistry...the hydroponic sprayers made me jump! Hydroponic sprayers!!!

The music in Bioshock helped it as well.
