I grew up listening to Kiviniemi's improvisations. I went to church for the final minutes of service just for them, years after I'd become a practical atheist. Still, I've never heard him do quite this good. I suspect Ristinkirkko's organ didn't have quite the breadth after all, eventhough it certainly remains an impressive piece of modernistic design.

As a motorsport fan, I am well aware that most Finns are absolute nutters. It would seem that Kiviniemi is no exception. Too much of his improvisatory style relies on gratuitous FF or FFF with all the big reeds, and his body language is embarrassing and excruciating in the extreme, taking demonstrativeness to a whole new level of excess. Such a pity - he is clearly a man of capability, but subtlety he knows not.
@EccentricRichard Now, if Richard knew subtlety, perhaps his comments would be a tad more muted.
Most Finns are "nutters"? That is your limited belief. How long have you lived in Finland, and how many Finns do you REALLY know? And I suppose YOU have the ONLY "correct" body language. The mind judges, while the heart just listens. Mr Kiviniemi is a consummate artist whose expression needs no correction from a motorsport fan...
A sonic spectacular with dazzling camerawork to capture all of the atmospheric excitement on this fabulous instrument! The listener is drawn in to the marvel of details so deftly painted upon this magnificent sound portrait, with astonishing angles of the keyboard and manuals and stops and interior space. There is plenty of forward momentum and brilliant fireworks in this noble display of the incredible art of improvisation. One can imagine the spirit of Franck living in this art!
PLEASE do more concerts in America, especially NYC (Riverside, St. John the Divine) I have your recording from Chicago (Rockefeller Chapel). Absolutely stunning!!!
With all do respect ,Improvisation is wonderful That is if you can recognize the original song.Ons Heemecht is the most beautiful anthem in the world. But I would hope the the Grand Duke did not hear this recording of it.I do not think that you would make it back to Finland if he had.Out of respect for the people of Luxembourg..Would you play it again at the speed that it was written in and with the respect that it deserves
with all due respect. this improvisation is a real masterpiece. to change the speed of the theme is sometimes a necessarity dependent on the theme. And to perform an improvisation, and a brilliant one like this one, about a theme, is in my opinion the biggest honor and respect that you can give a theme!
