next time just take it easy dont get so tense! you will play much better its a funky jazz piece i know cuz ive played it just relax get into the music
That was great!!! Only things I found were the obvious tempo increase, and really horns you gotta just stay a lot more laid back. Obviously your classically trained from the start, but you know the deal. Gotta keep it laid back.
wow, that sure sped up... good playing other than that... tell the drummer to listen / play along to some Steve Ferrone / Harvey Mason tracks, its so easy to speed up in these grooves, all it needs is some timekeeping! sub-divide!
no i agree there are tempo issues. But don't just tell your drummer exactly what to do. I'm a drummer and that pisses me off so much when bandmates will try to do that sometimes.
Something like, "Hey, you're really rushing there" or "make it more in the pocket" I'm cool with, but Mr. Saxaphone can't act like he's my private teacher all the sudden.
If it's the bassist saying it, I'm usually a little more lenient on it cause we're tight.
listen to the real Chameleon off of Herbie's album ....it speeds up a ton! because this song has momentum to it, it's not supposed to stay static the whole time, it's got to keep going as the song builds energy!
sure, they have a right to tell the drummer "Hey you're really rushing, just keep it in the pocket". And a good drummer will take it from there and figure out what he's gotta do to get the job done. That's needed to keep a band improving. But I'm saying a horn player has no right to tell a drummer "hey buy this book and work through exercises 14-20" or anything specific of that nature.
And, like I said before, if you want to get gritty with tempo advice, it's gotta be coming from the bassist.
hey prog i'm the saxophonist in this video and we didnt tell the drummer what to do at all, just blended with each other sort of, i'm embarrased when i watch this video as i can say i have improved a great deal since 3 years back
My Jazz Big Band is doing an arrangment of this(I'm on the bass) and we're starting to really get the hang of it. The sax didn't sound that bad, maybe slightly out of tune, but it was probalby the audio system.
Sax Stinks Everything else okay. Sorry. Solo did not get me excited. The Keyboard and everything else sounded amazing. Sadly, the Trumpet in my opinion had some better licks than the sax.
Man, I LOVE this song! My high school band plays it, and it's a BIG hit at basketball games, 'specially when bass and electric guitar takes their solo. I've never had the courage to actually do a solo, but this makes me want to try! Good post. I'm in the 9th grade, by the way.
This sounds really great. The sax and trumpet play great together and the rhythm section is groovy like herbi's band. Just try to sustain your notes more through the phrase and you will sound almost exactly like the original. Great job.
this is great, i also watched your take five one to, but i dont really believe you've been playing for only a year :I you sound more like you been playing around 3-4 years?
how did u know that the sax guy has been playin for 6 months. Hey you just created today an account never watched a video on youtube and posted a comment on this specific video...i got ya sax man...nice try but u made it to obvious

i'm a drummer as well, but I understand my responsibility to keep the time.
Sure those other bandmates shouldn't really need to tell you but if you aren't noticing it then they have all rights.
Sounds like your group isn't very tight as mates... you should be able to listen to all their comments with equal weight.
