Tutsis being macheted didn't count. The hutus knew this, so they rarely attacked U.N. eventually they pulled out and let the genocide continue unhindered, as if it ever really was. Rwanda has gone down in history as one of U.N.'s greatest disgraces dude.

You left out Somalia as one of the conflicts the UN has been involved in. So that would be three that I know of without doing any research on the subject. The UN brokered the ceasefire, and delegated peacekeeping roles to the USA, since no-one else was in a position to do it, and it went in line with your national interest. You don't pay billions every day. The budget of the UN this year was about 5bn, which the US is SUPPOSED to pay 20%. You don't even pay that. In fact, you're the cause of over 33% of its debt....

It operates on the basis of voluntary commitments of troops from member states (the USA is crap on this account, too, by the way). The UN isn't a government capable of enforcing policy on subordinate nations; it's forum for diplomacy and multilateral action. It facilitates dialogue; does research; publishes recommendations; distributes aid; and deploys peacekeepers. It doesn't engage in wars or disarm sovereign states.

I do not recognize its authority over sovereign nations. First UN program are ineffective but not always. Let's face it; we are alone. The UN brokered the ceasefire, and delegated peacekeeping roles to the USA, since no-one else was in a position to do it, and it went in line with your national interest. You don't pay billions every day. The budget of the UN this year was about 5bn, which the US is SUPPOSED to pay 20%. You don't even pay that. In fact, you're the cause of over 33% of its debt....

It operates on the basis of voluntary commitments of troops from member states (the USA is crap on this account, too, by the way). Any action perpetrated by those individuals is not the fault of the UN. Hell, the UN INVESTIGATED ITSELF and SACKED those involved. What more do you want them to do? Hell, I bet you wish your government was that committed to transparency, don't you?

But that does not give an excuse for UN, France, and Russia to steal wealth that Saddam Hussein gave them. Because of the oil-for-food scandal, millions Iraqis died because of it. I don't like the UN so please respect my views. You may like the UN but lots of us Americans don't really like it.

You agree with the conclusion only because you misunderstand the purpose of the UN. The UN isn't a government capable of enforcing policy on subordinate nations; it's forum for diplomacy and multilateral action. It facilitates dialogue; does research; publishes recommendations; distributes aid; and deploys peacekeepers. It doesn't engage in wars or disarm sovereign states.

They simply CAN'T reinforce the resolutions because they have no army of their own nor are they a sovereign entity. The UN Security Council is more of a meetingplace for good will, not an enforcing body. But yes, the resolutions are a joke and everybody should be livid about it.
