The most beautiful interpretation of I have ever heard of this beautiful love song. I saw Liam in person only one, a year or so before he went to his final gig in the sky. It was quite unforgettable. Why didn't I catch up with him sooner?!
What a loss, .... back in the 60's I saw the Clancy Brothers & Tommy Makem in Boston twice, completely fantastic show. Every year we lose so many truly talented people - that really can't be replaced.
sadly missed i will drink a parting glass to him on the 9th. lost my dad in 07 to cancer. thay are both in heaven in the pub laughing singing and of corse drinking to our health. so to you all i say slangt( hope i spelled it right.)
@ozzyslasher1970 In Irish it is usually Slainte Mhaith, and in Scottish Gaelic it is Slainte Mhath ,pronounced slawn je vah ,and also used as a single word in both. In the couplet it means "good health",alone "health". Liam touched my heart many times, an honour to have seen and heard him in concert , and I remember him very well. Eirinn gu bragh agus Albainn gu brath
A wonderful tribute to Liam. A man I've grown to love, through listening to his music and reading of his life. We love and miss you Liam and you will forever live in our hearts.
I came to Liam through my late father's attraction to the Clacy's and Tommy Mackem all those years ago 1960 ish, and his most prised picture was one tacken in Kelly's of Roselare between Liam and Tommy.
God rest them all and thank you again for the memory of someone whose music ~i've enjoyed for the past 50 years
Thanks for this and the lovely tribute on the right... The Wheels of Life was a masterpiece. I think it was his best album ever. His voice sounded so well in the studio it was incredible... You could hear it quiver in live shows but on that album he sounds as strong and youthful as ever... When he sings the first line of Mendocino (with Mary Black) "I bid farewell to the state of New York" he sounds like the Liam Clancy of old...from the 50's and 60's.. I was amazed when I got the album.RIP Liam
The passing of an era. I caught the Clancy Bros show in the Ulster Hall in Belfast back in the 60s.
Thanks for the memories.
A butterfly flies beside us like a sunbeam, And for a brief moment its glory and beauty belongs to our world. But then it flies on again, and though we wish it could have stayed, we feel so lucky to have seen it.
we saw him in dublin this summer the second concert that he was supposed to do but he was to sick.. he did come on for an hour and sing all the songs we sang to our children when they were young and going to bed.. we cried our eyes out.

never got to see the Clancy's on stage, but always a huge fan living here in Canada. Thanx for this, had not heard it before.
