Yes that was SALT N PEPPA voices in Antoinette's background, Antoinette was apart of HURBY LUV BUGS "Idol Makers family": which included: SALT N PEPPA & SPIN; KID N PLAY & DJ WHIZ; SWEET TEE; KWAME & of course ANTOINETTE (& alot of rappers that were often featured on Cd's that HURBY PRODUCED called, HURBIES MACHINE
Damn, I was about 14/15 when this joint was out. Funny how female rappers looked like Goddesses, back then. Now most are presented like Porn Stars. Not to mention that these sistas could actually spit like nobody's business. Ah... the good old days! Much Respect!!!!
Does anyone remember Antoinette's video I Wanna Be Me? This video is also from her Burning at 20 below project. If someone has this video could you please post it?
i remember reading a youtuber who said they were antionette's ryhme writer? is that you? were you a part of the legendary "finger prints" ( i think that was the name), down with herbie and the whole idol makers posse?
ahhhhhhhh. i knew her before she got famous because she was friends with my girl and man, she looked fine up close. i remember my girl catching me looking at antoinette's booty for the longest. we broke up a few days later.
@bdizzleny06 Antoinette currently has a successful career in the financial industry. We grew up on the same block and coincidentally now live in the same area(not in nyc),
@JazzieJeff20 yeah u right this has nothin to do with salt n peppa. Spinderella and Pepa were talking to Antoinette at the beginning of the song. Pepa was pregnant so she wasn't in the video.
i grew up in the south Bronx and have been in the rap game a long time when it first started i was there (39 years old) we moved uptown Bronx on 225th ST and gunhill RD i met her personally at the time i was writing rhymes and she was looking for a ghost writer and chose me unfortunately we moved to florida before i could get started with her and sorry guys the booty you see walking is not her its a model she told me her self she also lived off gunhill RD at the time (look for orpheus soon)
Her son said she is an auditor/accountant outside of New York City. Antoinette apparently left the business in 1991 because she couldn't get a viable contract to support her family. I also heard she wasn't that big into the "fame game". I guess she was pretty shy in real life. I respect the fact that family was first for her, and she didn't become someone trying to hold on to her fame. P.S. I love how you New Yorkers say "Coffee". Wish I could say it like that.
@howey1million It's actually posted in the comments section of the other version of this song. The one where it's just a cover of the single (no video). It would be great to see her again. DJ DeeVille did an Antoinette mix where she did a current verse saying the beef with her and Lyte was squashed. She still is damn good. No idea when it was exactly done. But you can download it for free. Also has the Big Daddy Kane/ Antoinette song.
When this video first came out, every man in it just look like a big perver to me...LOL!!! Espicially the stalker with the perm in the classroom. Like, who really stares that hard?!?!
@BoomBoomFromDaBronx THATS 100% THERE HOMIE!! BIG UP 228TH STREET!!!, THAT WAS A WILD ASS BLOOCK BACK THEN TO!!! FROM 228TH, DOWN TO 219TH!!! YARDIES WAS WILDING AND RUNNING SHIT!! SHOUT OUT MOODIES RECORDS SHOP!! LOL
This is the type of bullshit that sinked career. When you start off with strong beats, you have to keep it going. Once the album dropped and it was whack and did not have the "cuts" on there, she was done. She looked good though. Nothing like I thought before I first saw her.
Antoinette the greatest ever. I met MC LYTE in 1990 and told her and I ran into Lyte a couple a months ago and told her again in her face. Lyte just laughed because she knew A.N.T. gave her the business. My son laughed when I asked MC Lyte who won that battle. Female Rakim for real no jizz-oak.
Only thing is we do not know why. SSSS happens in the ET industry. I just read that Dr. Roxanne Shante got shafted on her royalty check by Warner Bro. But her contract said they had to pay for her education. That's why she is Dr. Roxanne Shante.
A RAP CITY classic! I was in ninth grade when this came out around Fall 1990 and I remember Dr. Dre and Ed Lover playing it on YO! MTV RAPS too. Never thought I'd see it again. You rule, BDizzleNY06!
Say, does anyone have the other two videos from Antoinette's BURNIN' AT 20 BELOW album, "She Operates Around the Clock" and "I Wanna Be Me"? Would love to see those.
If there is a word to describe this track, it's: REFRESHING. I have this CD, and every time I listen to this track, it takes me back to the fun days of rap and new jack hip-hop, where it was all about lyrical delivery, dope rhymes, and just bragging about how ill an emcee you were.
Something interesting I noticed in this video are the hairstyles: Guys with the hi-top fades and girls with the...not sure what it's called. Those were popular in the early 90s. You don't see that anymore.
Thanks for posting the video! Antoinette and Sweet Tee are two of the most well-known old school female rap artists from the early 1990s, so it was nice to see a video that reminded us of the good old days of rap and hip-hop.
Also nice to know this was recorded from BET's Rap City. Loved watching the show (esp. Old School Wednesday) before they changed the show format and it all went downhill after that.
3:26 - Man I remember this video like it was yesterday. It's been almost 20 years since I've seen it. Thank you for posting this gem, you made my day!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yea I luvved this vid ..she was sizzling hot back then ..please can u repost this with better sound quality ??? or maybe I can add the hi-qual sound in sync with this vid ??? daymm I give it a try ..this song precedes most the hip hop era ..they used to call this genre go-go lmao
wow!!! i still have this on cd,well i found this track on limewire, but i need the first cd who's the boss if anyone can send me those tracks i would really enjoy that
Yeah Pepa's voice is on the record just in the parts with the conversation between the ladies. She is not featured in the video she was pregnant at the time.
