  • How do I know if my monitor is a CRT or LED/LCD. Mine is just a normal monitor

  • Turn down the brightness or blacklight on your lcd tv or monitor and that will considerably save energy. Try the different settings with your killa watt meter attached. Thanks, Mandalay Wind

  • Stupid fuck doesnt realise your monitor heats up when it displays light colors. where does the heat come from?

  • Thanks you very much.

  • hmm, intresting

  • I suggest pixeleco . com

because its the best Black Google search engine out there and saves energy too.

  • i hate trying to save the planet, ima make a website called, THISWEBSITEWASTESENERGYDOTCOM

  • Comment removed

  • its powered by Google....ur using the exact same thing....except ur helping people...think of someone besides urself..like ur future kids...gueez

  • fail

  • sorry but my eizo with consumption meter says that with black google saves 10% of energy...

I don't know what you guys saying but my major is in electronics and i can tell you that LCD with contrast more than 1000:1 saves energy!

  • To Eric:

Okay, so Blackle is ineffective for LCD/LED screens, because unlike CRTs they actually have to emit the color black rather than leaving a blank pixel.

Next question: how effective is Blackle on an OLED screen? I know they're only just entering the market and are by no means cheap yet, but I think it's worth asking the question. Since OLED pixels use no electricity to produce black, I would suspect the difference would be far more noticeable.

    Thanks for the tip!

  • @dispariti well, this depends for LED.

there are a few types of uses for LEDs nowadays:

    1. constant led backlight (always on, just replaces the tubes in older LCD screens)

    2. dynamic like led backlight (gets dimmed when the output on the screen is darker)

    3. led only display (every singel pixel is 1 or 3 leds)

with option 2 and 3 it could work, with option 1 it would only be as useful for the LCD screens

  • BPLED looks much better then blackle

  • If you ever start trying out music or acting, message me

I will post your vids on my page and you will be part of TheAMGClub

  • Yup! this saves power on CRT or ordinary desktop monitors only, because less light is produced on black screens thus less power consumed. However, LCD or laptop monitors on the other hand actually consumes more power on this site because almost all the dots or pixels on the LCD screen has to be powered up to produce a black color portion. I think the site is only a reminder to save power though. :-)

  • Blackle's advantage is the darkness is good because if the screen is too bright it can damage you eyes, but also Blackle's disadvantage is that it doesn't have Blackle Images, Blackle Maps, Blackle News, Blackle Video and Blackle Mail alls it has is Blackle web!

  • "... if the screen is too bright it can damage your eyes..."

Are you using a carbon arc as a backlight to your LCD??

Take a monitor of -any- kind out into the sunlight. I'll bet you can barely see it. So how will something dimmer than sunlight "damage your eyes"?

  • Blackle is just a cool concept.

  • i think you mean led back lit lcd

  • wow thats interesting thank you

  • I like google better. It's brightness brightens my day!

  • LOL, why did you keep cutting to a white screen?

  • i still like blackle better bacause it is easyer on my eyes

  • you have eyesshine!

  • Dude, no offense, but you need to do a better job of editing. Plus, you were having some problems with the wind blowing in the microphone. The excess noise was causing my speakers to consume extra power. Also, you should have mentioned that people should enable the power saving features on the computer to shut off the monitor when it's not being used. That will save a significant amount more than occasionally using a black background on a website.

  • I like the idea, but reading white fonts on black backgrounds is really hard for your eyes, and you're heading to an headache.

I prefer using Greenle. I think green every time I do a web search.

  • I did some more research and there is really no difference in power consumption.

  • LCD LED? Hmmmmmm. Google is your friend...

  • Thanks for letting us know!

  • ...a stupid comment...
