Hyenas are magnificent animals. Food stealing and cubs killing are common in the wild to many species (hyenas and lions alike) because they need to take advantage of any opportunity for survival. We humans are worst than them in that way... We grow other animals with hormones, treat them with cruelty and eat them at very young ages.

You have to be very skilled to do that, and you WOULD break a sweat. One bullet rarely kills a lion, hunters are very cautious because they know how cunning and strong they are, they have to sneak up on it. And if the shot is not fatal, the lion has a very good chance of closing the gap so you can no longer use your gun.
