debate centres around worshipping God among the people, and move in Catholic church to return to worshipping God as a hierarchical God, seats go back to face high altar, priest speaks from the high altar, people kneel to receive communion etc. Where is St Mary's 2011? Somewhere in the middle - - half of pews facing high altar, rest of pews (the ones you see in this video) left as they are facing centre... priest wears robes, lay people still have a big part in liturgy, music still strong...

Wow. I've never been more happy to be Protestant than when reading these comments. I'm trying to picture the reaction of the Jesus of the gosples to the people freaking out about other people's lack of formality during worship....I like that Jesus much better than rigid Roman Catholic Jesus, or even Baptist and Penecostal Jesus for that matter. Just like the Pharisees so many of us spend too much time worrying about dogma to actually do any good in the world.

@shmunski101 You have no idea whether I fast or what sort of prayers I pray. You think the formality and ritual are so important, but I think there are other ways to "go the extra mile". Jesus Himself often violated the rules and rituals of His time to help and heal those in need. I think using my life to make a difference and share His love is much more important than how I worship on Sundays. A hypocrite is someone who looks good in church, but not so much during the rest of the week.

The issue lies in this: they are singing in a Catholic Church. There's a red candle in the back, that means that JESUS is there IN THE EUCHARIST. Jesus DID give us a "set standard in mind" to worship and come to Him. He broke the bread, said it was His Body and Blood, and then said "DO THIS IN MEMORY OF ME." Do what? The Mass. If these people were in a Protestant church, it would be different. But when we enter a Catholic Church, we are entering sacred ground, not just a place to sing hymns.

Crikey.. The people who miss the point of the Eucharist astound me. Worship takes many forms. In this church it can be formal and informal. It is always meaningful and spiritual and answering the needs of many. To confine spiritual expression to a format smacks of medievalism. I am reading these comments and having a hard time understanding what in the world one could object to in this video. These people are WORSHIPING GOD. They are spending time WORSHIPING GOD. I don't think God has one set standard in mind for how we come to him or else He would have made us all exactly the same person. But these folks are taking time out of their day to sing praises to God. Someone can actually find fault in that?

Exactly what started my journey to Orthodox Christianity....Praise God.

I hold no ill-will feeling towards Catholics, but my personal believe is that the abuses after Vatican II, and this is an abuse and is not sanctioned by Rome, has done so much harm to the Catholic Church. However, God works in mysterious ways and is not the author of evil. Currently, the Orthodox Church is growing in North America while so many other faiths struggle to keep their doors open. No offense, just a fact.

@hamartolos1 I couldn't agree more. I went to Catholic school for 11 years, and I was just so offended by the hypocracy and lack of self-respect exercised by the Catholic Church. Vatican II stripped the Church of so many of its longstanding traditions such as the Latin mass, and truly conveyed to the masses that religion is susceptible to popular culture. I think Vatican II really caused many many people to lose their reverence and respect toward the Catholic Church, which is truly shameful.

@basinandtowel My point is that the vast majority of what the Catholic Church stands for is very respectible and just, but the public persona that they project tends to undermine this (The sexual abuse scandals, making comments in petty political ramblings, etc). If they held firm to their core principles and restored most of the provisions Vatican II removed (Which I believe would restore people's respect and reverence toward the Mass), I'd probably still be a Catholic today.

@basinandtowel  Oh I have thus far! So have the many former Catholics who have become Orthodox. Finally these people see God as not either a hateful, angry being; nor do they see him as some kind of push-over...the balancing act the Catholic Church can't get right. Interestingly enough, although we do believe the Orthodox Church is the true Church (as Catholics do), it doesn't condemn people outside of it to hell..unlike Catholicism. Apologists can't take back 1,000 years of Roman doctrine.

No because that's not why we attend Mass. We attend for the most Holy Sacrifice that is SUPPOSED to happen on the altar in the sanctuary, where only the priest and altar servers are permitted to be. That would the aread behind the altar rail where the choir is standing...in front of the tabernacle...where Jesus is. Absolutely ineffable.

I am a Catholic...An Old School "Old World" Spanish Catholic...and let me tell you I love this song...it is beautiful, and I don't care who wrote it. In my church here in Ohio that I adopted, they even sing song of the Shaker religion called simple gifts...What a beautiful song and a testament to God...To my brethren who complain, who gave you the right to judge? Last time I heard the only who can do that is our Heavenly Father, and I know he did not abdicate that power to any of you.

At least these people aren't on youtube bashing other Catholics and the composer of this song. The liturgy has always been toyed with - don't think this is something new since V2. And if you want to attack this composer, you should be complaining just as strongly about hymns that we consider "Catholic classics" which were written by members of other faiths. (eg - "Praise To The Lord, The Almighty... Joachim Neander was a Calvinist.)

This is the cause of division, every priest fabricating his own liturgy out of whatever hippie-yuppie garbage he can find. Now you can go to a city like mine with 5 "mainstream Parishes" all with differences in liturgy. I agree the Eucharist is supposed to unite it, but when all the Vat2 Priests make their own liturgy it is next to inpossible. St. Pius warned of the heresey of Modernism, now we are paying.

For example, a Paramedic must distribute the medicine or carry out the surgical procedure in a certain way, and would be risking the injury or even death of the patient if he or she did it a compleatly differnt way.

All I see is a loving community who worships my savior Jesus Christ. I don't have the answers .I can picture Christ with his flock sitting and singing around him as they are doing. Giving out the bread of life in the same mannor. I am not sure what country you are from but in the United States they close churchs everyday because they are losing the flock. and your Parish is not thriving as a Roman Catholic Parish. Your Bishop even excommunicated your Pastor. This parish is thriving as its own thing.
