The version on my TMNT video cassette was completely identical except for the ending which had people singing 'Making it great', which was the slogan for Pizza Hut at the time. Great memories.
They don't make commericials like this any more. Now they have hamsters doing a gay a dance to a gay song for a gay for an even gayer car. There are no commericials that make me wanna go buy anything anymore.
The year was 1992 and I was in 2nd grade. Burger king was selling teenage mutant ninja turtles movies with their happy meals and this commercial was at the beginning of the movie. Ahhh, memories...
Ever since I saw this ad on the TMNT VHS back in 1990, I thought it was one of the best ads I had ever seen and I still do. I just wish the artist that Pizza Hut hired to do the song had actually gone on to record a full version; I like his version better than the original.
@colleen4ever If that's him, then he figured out how to make his voice sound a lot less nasally for the Pizza Hut ad. Also, if that's him, then he decided not to perform the song in his usual goofy style. I'm almost positive the guy in the Pizza Hut ad is not Paul. If it is Paul, then can you point me to a good quality video on YouTube of him performing it solo? All I've been able to find is a crappy live recording.
i played catcher when i was in coaches pitch and right field in minor leagues. i always loved this commercial at the beginnig of TMNT and still love baseball to this day and i remember all the times we went to pizza hut after the games.
I remember seeing this commercial on the "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" video before the movie, and I always thought it was funny and confusing why the coach was making a disappointing face from 0:42-0:43 like he was saying and thinking "I shouldn't of made a promise if he catches that baseball that I would treat them to Pizza Hut." I'm not sure why he would look disappointed after one of his players caught a baseball instead of showing happiness right away like he did at 0:53 on the left side.
Yes that's also true. I guess the kid has never caught a fly ball before and that was the first time he caught a fly ball so maybe the coach thought the kid would miss the ball. Probably his surprised look was like he was saying "I was wrong to think he would miss the ball."
That's also true. Maybe that young kid is the coaches son where his son usually has trouble catching a fly ball and the coaches look was also probably meaning "how did my son catch the fly ball like that which he never does?"
I thought I knew what my favorite song was until this was brought from the depths of my childhood memories. this should have like a million hits. every kid who was ever a ninja turtle should know this song BY HEART b/c we wore the VHS tape out watching the movie so much!
@DeVeAnGAMERZX Yep I had bought the movie when I lived in Maryland on VHS and I remember this commercial at the beginning vividly. Til this I still remember the lyrics.
Gonna be watching TNMT tonight, but it's on DVD. Playing Street Fighter II first. Had to find this commercial to precede the movie. Popcorn, ice cream, using Chun-Li to whoop my brother playing Ryu like it's 1992 again, Right Field, Turtles...what a night!
I think the version I had had "Makin' it Great" as the slogan at the end.

This song was originally written and performed by Willy Welch of Dallas, TX. Peter Paul and Mary covered it a couple times.
