Actually the timing was quite clever.

We were showing the episode in omnibus format early on Sunday mornings anyway.

But the weekday line up at one point consisted of Top Of The Pops about 11.30ish and Doctor Who followed...it was for the people who'd been out at the pub and were just arriving back home

I love that episode, it's my favorite of Colin Baker's I think. That and 'Vengence on Varos' are really in my top 20 of Doctor Who stories.
