  • Hi I just bought the io dock and I get a lot of feedback. I read that it's a software problem. Is there a way to fix it?

  • @alvamend check the official complaint thread - alesis community io dock hiss

  • Also a little room treatment will go a long way for your sound.... Maybe convert a closet to vocal booth?

  • I think you should focus your camera on you instead of the mic, it would look a little nicer. What software did you use? Good stuff!

  • u need some reverb

  • @badog2010 i kinda like it this dry because many exaggerate with the reverb...

  • What preamplifier and compressor are u using ??

  • Looks good to me! Great fun! Isn't music supposed to be fun!

  • Another great video / demo - great musicianship too - thanks for posting!

  • I've never really understood this, but why is the microphone pointed downward? /noobquestion

  • @TGITechday

Generally a Cardioid Condenser microphone has one side that picks up the sound to be recorded, the other side(s) are used for noise cancellation and ambience. This means that the microphone will be either standing upright or downwards.

When pointed downwards, the cable is out of the way of any equipment such as music stands or the mixing console. Some use it upside down to pick up vibrations from the voicebox and the neck.

Thats the extent of my knowledge, hope this helps!

  • @jonnybeats12 Ah I see.. makes sense. I can understand when it's pointed down when people use a boom stand when they podcast or are at a desk to save space but there seems to be a lot of empty space so it didn't seem very necessary =P I use a Snowball to record so I generally just have it upright haha =P Thanks for the informative and polite response! =]

  • @TGITechday

Also, there is nothing wrong with a 'noob' question. We all have to learn from somewhere! :P

  • the voice wasn´t loud enough, but overall pretty good

  • Sweet

  • Would've love to see the settings on the iPad levels though....the recording came out rather clean indeed....kudos!

  • All these tech's and u playing guitar tooo!! SO SEXY *jizz*

  • excellent, this is a good companion for a band

  • sounds really good! cool thing to use for demos and such.

  • recording on an ipad....i still dont get it

  • @Luger718A1 A lot of people aren't going to need studio professional recordings so it's a cool option to be able to do it :)

  • @tldtoday cool if you already have an ipad and can afford it but id rather put 800 bucks into a computer that has more horsepower.....but obviously someone wont be dumb enough just to get an ipad solely for this purpose :/ im not a big ipad fan....or an apple fan for that matter ;)

  • @Luger718A1 At the last keynote, Jobs stated that as mobile apps become easier to use, and the devices that use them more powerful, the mobile device will start to become just as, if not more important than the desktop or "digital hub". This translates to: People used to use iPad when iMac wasn't there, but now that garage band is on both, and iPad is always by my side, I might as well use it exclusively. Not to mention all the cool instruments you can play! Tee Hee!

  • @stainglassfox yea when they have an ipad as fast as this core i7 ill think about it ;) you wont get as far doing multimedia with a tablet as you would with a desktop

  • @Luger718A1 lol, agreed.

  • @stainglassfox then when you compare the amount of money invested to what you could have invested it on instead of throwing 700-800 bucks might as well save up for an imac or build your own DAW....but of course like i said if you already own an ipad for other reason (i find no reason to have one i secretly despise them ;-)) and want to "dabble" in recording music then this seems like an option :D

  • @Luger718A1 whats not to get, you can record, mix, edit and still have it sound amazing without all of the expensive and bulky equipment. by no means is it going to replace huge studio consoles and all of the other pro audio equipment but it will make it easy to record small sessions and record on the fly

  • @kingofnothing26 read my other comments.... to some it all up...if you already have an ipad and want to "dabble" go right ahead....if you dont dont go headfirst into recording with an ipad in mind when theres more cost effective ways

  • Comment removed

  • @kingofnothing26 I see what you mean, I was under the impression that it went without saying though. If someone is dumb enough to buy an ipad to exclusively record then let them, the economy needs dumbass money spenders haha

  • @Luger718A1 because when im touring and traveling i can record sketch tracks to memorize while im out then when i come home ill hit the studio, its a lot less equipment and wires (which equal headaches there selves) and only takes 3 mins to record a vocal and im done..now i would never record album on there,at least till they get better pre's :)

  • @indaswamp i still wouldnt pay upwards of 700+ for that. i mean if your filthy rich by all means but for your average bedroom studio type person (lol) this is out of the question

  • @Luger718A1

uh i dont see how you got to be filthy rich to do that? you can get em off CL all day for half of that, lol plus if you aint gonna invest into your music, well who is?

  • @indaswamp theres just more cost effective ways of doing it...for the price of this setup you are better or getting a pc or saving a few more bucks for a mac...much greater functionality

  • @Luger718A1

well i got a ipad 2 and a mac mini and im great,i wouldn't put money into a Alesis iO Dock, but the Ipad is a must for me..and i was skeptical but there are so many music apps now, which are 20 bucks too the most..when software runs from 100-1,000..search the net and check out the apps!

  • @indaswamp a fraction of the price a fraction of the productivity...its a trade off

  • @indaswamp also the money you didnt spend on the better software/faster hardware on your mac mini got spent on the portability of the ipad...its basically a tradeoff not worth it for a person looking to do real recordings

  • @Luger718A1 Bro, its not meant to replace Ocean Way Studios. But go back 30 years, and I bet someone probably said, 'Digital recording is expensive! There's cheaper ways to do it, such as using magnetic tape.' Now, hardly anyone records on magnetic tape. So we're still a longgg way from having pristine mobile recording technology, but all in good time, mate. All in good time. :-)

  • @Luger718A1 touchscreen, portability, apple software not pc, fun!!

  • @Luger718A1 "recording on an ipad....i still dont get it" maybe in time you will......I can't understand what people don't get about iPads and mobile touch devices used for creative expression and function. If you are already using a computer to record your music, then why is it so hard to see that touch devices are the next step in refining that process. Have you seen the" V control pro" app? what about the AC 7 core app. Man, Talk about saving some money, and time. Continued next reply

  • @Luger718A1, Continued from below; You can control your mix and edit windows, plugins, transport etc and it works for p-tools, logic, cubase, abelton and just about every other DAW out there. There is a constantly growing list of truly viable, functional, innovative and truly productive apps out there. If you use electronic devices in music don't shoot your self in the foot Luger. Continued above,,,

  • @Luger718A1 Cont' from below; And this technology is so young, give it three years and this post will be like an embarrassing picture you dont want your mom to show your new girl friend. I wont harp on and on but don't you think this attitude is similar to what people said when digital recording was just a "neat idea" that could never work in a professional environment? Get hip before its to late....

  • @breadliner81 as it is now...in its young underpowered state i dont think its worth a 800+ dollar investement....people are to obsessed with portability a MBP isnt that big....but i do see what your trying to say in a few years tablets are going to have a good amount of power for more complicated apps even some that rival desktop apps....i mean theres already tablets with quadcore processors in them.

  • @Luger718A1 The ipad and this dock can easily be grabbed for less than 800. FYI, it works JUST fine with the iPad 1.

  • @Luger718A1

    Cheap, convenient, portable

  • @JosePerez1220 convenient/portable

i wouldnt say its cheap ;)

  • @Luger718A1

Yeah not the alesis dock, I didn't see how expensive that was, but otherwise an iPad is worth the investment, condsidering all it does on top of being high quality portable recording/editing equipment, it's not expensive. But yeah it's not cheap either

  • @Luger718A1 See what happens is you put the iPad in the iO Dock, connect a microphone, and then record stuff. It's pretty simple, actually. :)

  • @Luger718A1 Seriously though, for $700 you get an iPad (that does more than just record, obviously) and the iO Dock, and it records in 24/48 to GarageBand. From there I can dump it to Logic and continue working on stuff. 15 years ago I paid more money for an 8-track to cassette from Tascam, and it sounded like crap by comparison. The power of what you can do in such a small size is pretty amazing. No, it's not a Pro Tools rig. It's not meant to be.

  • @polaris20 dump it into logic? cause having a decent logic machine is free right? 700 could be the difference between a beast and a pos logic machine....at the pricepoint that its at CURRENTLY its a waste of cash and could go better invested somewhere else

  • @Luger718A1 You have the classic "it doesn't work for me, therefore it doesn't work for anyone" mentality. Try being less self-centered and more open-minded.

Just because you can't afford a tablet and a good computer doesn't make it a poor choice for everyone. I can now have a more powerful desktop at home and a light tablet for casual stuff to carry out and about instead of a 6 pound laptop plus interface. It works well for me. If it doesn't for you, then super. Don't buy it.

  • @polaris20 if you would of been open minded and read my other comments you would of seen i said the same thing you said.....if you already have a nice setup and can afford it by all means go for it, but if your just getting into recording those 700-800 bucks could be spent elsewhere and be a better investment in the long run

  • @Luger718A1 Either way this is a dumb argument. I disagree with you, I think it's a good value, especially since the iPad is often used for a myriad of other things, and the quality for remote recording is now great too. Use what you like.

  • @polaris20 so you cant agree on the fact that if someone only had a 700 dollar budget theyre not better off buying say a mac mini and going that route? i could see tablets competing with desktops in the future but right now the software and price/performance isnt there yet......but then again having the ability to also play some temple run is tempting isnt it

  • @Luger718A1 Why is this even a topic? I replied to your comment about how you don't get recording on an iPad. Nothing less, nothing more. I don't give two shits about your rabbit hole justifications of when it does and doesn't make sense. I don't see anyone at Alesis or Apple saying this is going to replace a computer for DAW work, so why are you pontificating about it?

  • @Luger718A1 Yes, you should buy a Mini if you have nothing at all. No, the iPad doesn't replace a computer. It also doesn't mean an iPad is useless, a poor value, or a waste of time. It has a place, and it's still reasonably priced when coupled with the iOS Dock. There, happy!? You win at the Internet.

  • Sounds Good :)

  • I realy only watch these if its Jon :/ but you look so mutch like jon o-o

  • Not bad

  • STELLAR JOB JOSH! See this is why you rock :) Great Playing and Singing!
