i think they got it wrong just look at the bear today and the lions a brown bear is scared of a little cougar how can it compare to a lion right? plus tiger eat bear today so i think they got it wrong lion is the king of the land before us human
@OwNaGeDz Mature brown bears aren't scared of cougars. Sometimes they meet when the bear isn't looking for a fight, but if they have cubs nearby or there's food at stake bears often fight and win. Tigers usually only kill hibernating bears. No tiger was ever seen killing an adult male brown bear, but bears are seen killing adult male tigers to take kills. There were many pit fights staged between African lions and brown bears in 19th century California, and the bears won every single time.
@MisterFriedBeef They actually do. Both of them live in Asia. Where, specifically, depends on the species of bear. Black and sloth bears encounter Bengal tigers in India. Black and brown bears encounter tigers in Russia. The brown bear always gets its way against tigers, mostly in disputes over kills, so long as the brown bear is a boar.
Whoa. Now that bear, Arctodus (bear tooth) is my kind of bear, larger than today's bears.
Man, oh man. That Giant Short-Faced Bear is really the top predator of North America that stalks any prey all over the place. And I guess like a mighty Tyrannosaurus, he's earned to be the Top predator of the food chain.
@springboy9 top predator of N America? No kidding. Did anyone notice how LIGHTLY build Arctodus was when compared to modern-day bears and prehistoric big cats? And what about its short face that gave it its name? Short face= weak bite, unless you have the jaw structure of a Dunkleosteus. Slim legs= weak legs. How could a bear that is build much like a cheetah stand a chance against a smilodon or american lion? A 12 ft tall S American bear would be different but not a 6 ft N American short bear
@springboy9 and no, a short face USUALLY indicates a weak bite. the S American spectacled bear also happens to have a rather short face but it is not renowned for its strong bite. most short-faced animals have a weak bite, the same way most slenderly-build animals have weak muscles, the cheetah for example is weaker than a leopard despite the cheetah being much taller, a greyhound is weaker than a pitbull despite the pitbull being shorter etc
@ComradeFlorian31 You are right that a short face usually indicates a weak bite, but there will always be exceptions. Take the mountain gorilla for example. Their faces are short as well, but the crest on their head serves as an anchor for their jaw, giving them one of the strongest bites (1300 psi) of any extant mammal, second only to the hippo. This bite they evolved not for fighting or to snap crocodiles in half like a hippo, mind you, but so they can easily consume tough plants like bamboo.
@SantoryuWazamono only when the jaws are also wide or deep, as seen in gators or Majungasaurus. The short faced bear by contrast has an almost child-like face, reminiscent of Pekingese dogs which are not particularly renowned for their bite
I wonder if this bear spoke Russian…

@arnie157 look up ursus maritimus tyrannus
SantoryuWazamono 5 months ago
@arnie157
wrong. I'm sorry. Ursus maritimus tyrannus and Arctotherium angustidens are significantly larger........two relatively recent species discovered.
Everybody thinks GSFB was the largest. It's not anymore
AceofDlamonds 5 months ago
@arnie157 Bone-wise yes, but polar bears grow larger in weight and potentially in power as well.

@ComradeFlorian31 I thought the shorter face makes the jaws closer to the fulcrum, making them stronger, thats why hyenas can crush bones.
