  • omg it looked beast when it came out of the cacoon

  • Bearded Dragons can eat Silkworms can they but can they also eat the moth?

  • how simple their life is.

  • this is so peaceful

  • what kind of leaves do you feed them?? do the adult moths eat the same??

  • @aidengibson yep absolutly the same they can only be fed blackberry leaves any other thing will kill them lol

  • No, they just turn into fat moths that can't even fly

  • DO THEY TURN INTO BUTTERFLY'S TOO :D

  • Um are silk worms bad in anyway other than eating plants and stuff, because my friend's/neighbor's tree in their front yard has 3 silk worm web things on them and there used to be but now there's 2 but they were only able to get one down , the other ones were to high

  • @xSlxAwesomex They are definetely harmless, except for constantly eating leaves.

  • @xSlxAwesomex Silkworms are pretty harmless. They can't survive in the wild on their own...

  • @xSlxAwesomex buddy, silkworms can only eat mulberry leaves and are extinct in the wild. Lots of little caterpillers spin silk, you must have observed another species doing its thing

  • Hedgehogs can eat these right? :)

  • @jollybaby18 I have no idea.

  • @cherktar k :D

    Do they bite? o.O

Can you get them at a pet store? :o

  • Can you let them crawl on your hand?

  • @Juicedrinkz sure, they are fun to hold. Their feet are like little claws, not gross or sticky.

  • mini worms are so cute

  • This video is just perfect for my early education program. It took my program to another level. We have read books, looked at pictures, explored leaves and before our silkworms arrived, we viewed your video several times. It's really popular with my young audience. Thank you :o)

  • @TMFCCkids Thank you for your comments. I am glad your kids liked my little movie :-)

  • @cherktar great little production you've done here only thing is you didnt show them moulting once! If you ever made another one of these please put that in. Wicked though anyway, nice one.

  • I LAUGHED SO HARD AT THE MUSIC

  • These little guys used to be all over my grandma's plants in the yard some years ago. I miss 'em.

  • 2:34

    NomNOMNOMnom NOM

  • @FollowThedeadEnd eeeeeewwwww

  • i don't think these are silkworms...

  • silkworms come and go, onetime i woke up to clean the cage and more than half of them were dead in the bottom, only the strong ones survived, how they died? idk haha they die after they reproduce

  • silkworms come and go, onetime i woke up to clean the cage and more than half of them were dead in the bottom, only the strong ones survived, how they died? idk

  • Thank you for this video!! I was trying to explain to my daughters how cool silkworms are (when I was in 3rd grade my class helped raise some for science class). Your video does everything except allopw my girls to feel just how silky those little guys feel themselves. Is it expensive to buy the eggs, like if my girls wanted the educational experience of raising them too?

  • @crazysingingchick Hey i'm glad you liked the video. The eggs were pretty cheap. Most of the difficulty is in keeping them supplied with fresh leaves (young leaves at first then mature ones as they grow). I think there is artificial food, but I have no idea what it costs.

  • @crazysingingchick wwwmulberryfarmscom has great prices on eggs and food for them.

  • haha the music really makes this video.

It makes me think the worms are sophisticated little english men.

Then the beat gets all intense and fast paces.

that must be my favorite part of this haha

  • looks like the cassing of the silk worm isnt small at 4:26. Could they manage to somhow still go through the metamorphasis phase if you were to cover it with the silk cassing again? serious question.

  • @pureefficient I really have no idea. Not much of an expert here heh.

  • i have seen many videos, but this was the 1st one i felt i needed to respond to. It was very interesting, i bet it took a lot more work to do the video than raise the silworms! Great job!

  • these worms are cool. they feel soft cold. its a pain in the ass going out to get leaves all the time

  • i love silkworms nice video

  • this is so cool

  • i love silk worms lol

  • I don't understand why they call them Silk WORMS. Because worms don't spin cucoons and come out as a moth/butterfly, and they don't have legs. These are more like catapillars. I remember owning my own silk worms, they are so cute :)

  • awesome job with the video

u should name the video (the life of a silkworm)

i had 4 but they died after laiyng the eggs

    but that´s normal isn´t it? (=)

  • Thanks! Glad you liked it. Yeah, it's normal and was sad to see them die.

  • where did you buy the silkworm im buying mine at the silkworm shop

  • I bought them somewhere on the internet and they arrived by mail. I don't really recall where that was...

  • We just bought some at the Bug Fair in LA. They are very entertaining, and the envy of my son's third grade class! We only have eight right now. They are voraciuos eaters! You can even hear them chomping away. We are looking forward to the day they begin cocooning. This was a very well made video production. ~Jon

  • Hey thank you. I am glad you liked the video. It was 4 years ago and I am amazed people are still watching it :-)

  • When they were born did you feed them new mulberry leaves or mature leaves?

  • @TheEjayProductions oh hey I am sorry for not getting back to you sooner. This reply may be too late if you already got your worms. But, yeah, when they are small, they can't eat mature leaves. You have to pick very young leaves for them. If you don't have a tree nearby (as was the case for me) it can be a lot of work...

  • @cherktar How can you tell if the leaves are young? I used to have babies but they didn't survive :( They were eating and i didn't know what went wrong

  • @thebugcatcher100 If you can't find young leaves, it probably means your tree does not have any left. I raised the worms in spring so there were plenty of young leaves. They are pale green and very thin...

  • Of course they do ...

  • Fascinating! Thanks for posting this!

  • AHHH I ♥ SILKIES

Im raising them now. this is my 5th generation. theyre currently spinning cocoons right now.

silkworms r fascinating. its a wonderful life cycle.

  • funny how no one notices the plant being eaten alive.....

  • squish em!!

  • omg this brings back so many memories!!! my 3rd grade teacher assigned me to watch the worms over the weekend!! it was fun!!

  • My daughter and I found this very interesting, you did a great job of filming here.

  • Thank you! Glad to hear you liked it.

  • great editing! very interesting video

    10x :)

  • They make great catfish bait and a healthy food for tarantulas, frogs, and lots of other incect eating critters. Oh, they are good eaur ppl too! Just pull the head, legs, an ant other hard parts off, ddip in caramel and fry untill crispy. then use as an appitiser but don't tell anyone. Watch them eat and eat, then demand to know what they are clue them in by showing them your live ones and ask if they want seconds!

  • i can't stand most of the worm i think they look scary but the silkworm are just cute and fluffy looking, they don't bite, sting, they don't smell, and they are not slimy when you touch them

  • I want to get Silkworms however I don't want to pay a buttload for silkworm chow. I wish I had a mulberry tree. perhaps I should plant one..

  • half a pound of powder food is 10 bucks you just need to add water to it and microwave it for 5 min. it can feed 1000 silkworms till they are coccons.

  • Hmm, really eh? MAybe I will give it a try then..

  • are the baby silk worms nutricious ? for beardies

  • I didnt raise them as food...

  • yes they are. They are one of the best feeders, and get quite large. if you want to get them I would recommend mulberryfarms . com

  • you can order them on the internet. I dont recall exactly where I bought them, but it was easy to find on google.

  • In the end , it is dead?? (sorry for bad english]

  • Yep. It only lives 5 days as a moth.

  • i dont have nothing to feed em if i did i would get

    them

  • You have to feed them mulberry tree leaves. That's the only thing they eat. Though I heard there is some industrial feed you can buy on the internet. I never tried because there are mulberry trees near me.

  • when the silkworms rear their head up, is it bcause it's sleeping or something?

  • It's changing skins! It stays still for a couple of days and then comes out of its old skin with a newer and more flexible skin.

  • Wow...you must have a lot of time on your hands to shoot that, especially the important bits

  • Thanks. This was actually very easy and didn't take much time. I just kept the camera nearby and shot them every now and then. Getting the leaves to feed them was definitely the most work.

  • The ending made me cry...

  • wow i raised some silkworms at school and they were totally different if compared to yours. sadly some died and the rest were thrown away by the cleaning aunties and uncles

  • Wow! That was great. Music and everything pretty much rocked.

  • Actually, I have no idea how long the eggs will conserve for

  • Hey I have a question: I have silkworm eggs but they are about 8 months old. It is winter now. Do you think they will still hatch?

  • sometimes they wait till the next year if the conditions are not right

  • It's great footage. Thank you fro sharing this.

  • erm wat shall i feed them??

    thanks

  • You need to learn how to recognize mulberry trees, because they only eat their leaves and nothing else. The leaves will keep for about 3 days if sealed in a ziplock bag so you need to keep constantly plucking! Good luck

  • if i give u my msn can u show me the leave on web cam

  • I don't have them anymore, but if you google mulberry tree leaves, you should be able to find a description. They are pretty easy to recognize.

  • on images??

and also after they turn into butter fly do they make egs for new bby again?

  • yes. silkworms spins into a cocoon, turns into a pupa in the cocoon, comes out as a silkmoth. and the silkmoth's lay eggs which has into little silkworms

    HAPPY BREEDING!!

  • i found 1 a few steps away from my house:D

  • Congrats! I'm psyched for you.

Yeah, with the eggs, you can make new worms.

  • Just google silkworm eggs. I ordereded them on the internet and they arrived by mail.

  • okk thankyou

  • were can i order the egs from pls tell me:D

  • were can i find them?

  • Just google silkworm eggs. I ordereded them on the internet and they arrived by mail.

  • cant he find them in trees?

  • What´s SA? I guess I´m not from there :-) Yeah I raised them as well as a kid and it was like watching aliens from another planet.

  • arent they so fasinating

  • I think SA stands for South Africa.

  • Are you from SA? I'm from there, and I remember raising silkworm as a youth.

    It was an amazing experience.

  • That was a pretty cool video, watching them grow and then continue. Yeah, if it turns out they die in the end, I find that kind of sad.

  • waaaaaaaiiiiit, after they lay their eggs they die ?!!

waaaa !! noooo!!! and they are soo cute

I really love them soo much !!!! ^_^

  • wow must have felt rewarding to see it come round full circle like that

  • is there a way to download this?

  • I dont think youtube lets people download... I dont have it anyware else, sorry.

  • that sucks

i wanted to use parts of this on my project. :(

  • Try searching if there is a program which allows you to grab video from youtube. I would send it to you but it's too large and I'm dont have access to it right now anyways...

  • if you have Firefox you can (a add on) give me your email and ill send it k? its in flv file format though.

  • I think there is !!! ^_^

I'll try to give it to you

I'll try downloading it my style

    but the quality might decrease

    but I'll try

just tell me if you want me to download it

I'll give you a link okay

    I can't promise anything but I'll try really hard !!! ^_^

  • Mac user: download getube

windows: Youtube to iPod Converter. dont worry about the iPod part,

its ok to use on a project

  • Their is a way. You just need orbit downloader. You can get this if you just type in at google "download free orbit downloader". After you install it you just right click next to the video and say grab video by orbit. Hope this helps.

  • the worms are completely smooth. the moths are hairy.

  • hi.... you know when you touch silkworm, are they hairy?

  • thank you .... my sister got lots of information for her research.

  • Glad you found it helpful

  • I never watched a female lay them start to finish, so I actually don't know ...

  • wow this is the 1st time ive seen a moth thats actually kinda cute o.o

  • cool~

  • and how long do they live?

  • About 4 months

  • when you harvest the silk does it kill the silkworms?

  • Yeah, they are usually killed to harvest the silk from the Cocoon, otherwise, it gets ruined when they break out of it... sad.

  • i know that is horrible, i have heard of people that make silk out of the cocoons when the moth hatches out, they call it "peace silk"

  • fascinating to watch but i have to say that they are freaky little things!!

  • I got them from trees around my neighborhood. You can learn to recognize them. They're easy to identify by the shape of the leaf, although they ll start falling soon. There may be food sellers on the internet.

  • can you tell me where you got the leaves for them to eat.

  • You probably found out by now. You need to learn to identify the mulberry tree leaf. It's very distinctive and then look around town for a tree!

  • I just bought 10 silk worms, arriving monday, Liked the video, very informative, cheers.

  • Brilliant. Love the music as well.

  • i 2 hav silkworms ^.^

  • dood this is some shit rite here

  • Hi

Your video is very well done! I enjoyed watching the life cycle of the silkworm.

Can you tell me how did you manage to get such a close up view of the silkworms?

    Any special video camera gadgets?

I have seen the eggs of a silkwork before and they are REALLY tiny! The fact that you could capture the silkworm caterpillar emerging from its egg vivdly makes me dying to know how you did it! Please tell me, thanks!

I tried using a 40x optical zoom vcamera, but it doesn't do the job.

  • Hey glad you liked it. No, I didn't use any special lenses. I used the "macro" feature on my video camera which allows to get the lense even an inch away from the egg.

The optical zoom you are trying to use sounds like the opposite of what you are trying to accomplish. Zoom is for making things that are really far look close. You want the opposite. It's called a macro lense. But most cheap camera's already have macro capacity. So I'd just give that a try first. Good luck! :-)

  • can you send me some

    liek 10?

  • Hey sorry i don't have them anymore.

  • Not unless you got a factory. First of all, you have to boil them alive in their cocoon (since they destroy the silk when they come out). Then you have to find the head of the silk and reverse spool it. Oh, and you need hundreds of thousands to make a single garment. Machines usually do that.

  • Is there a way to have them produce and then collect the silk they make?

    Thanks

    Marcel

  • does it mean the eggs are almost ready to hatch when they get dark?

  • Yep, the worms are black, so you can see them through the translucid shell when they are ready to hatch.

  • how can you tell if the silkmoth is a boy or girl?

  • The females are a lot bigger than the males.

  • can you tell if its a girl ora boy by the cucoon?

  • Not that I know of

  • what i want to know (cos ive got a few of my own) is

1:how do you know if ones a boy or a girl

2:how long do they life for????

  • Hi Stanners, I am by no means an expert but I believe the worms can turn either male or female and it basically depends on how much you feed them (the more food, the more the females). You can tell the female moths because they are larger.

They live 4 months from egg to month. The month only lives 3 to 5 days.

  • yes coz their gonna have eggs anywayz hope that answerz ur question

  • hey, friend, first of all congratz u got a cool "collection" ;)

i have 2 silkworms too, one is cocooning, my doubt is this: if the buterfly of my silkworm is male, i can have eggs too? even without a fem. butterfly? i want to have eggs lol. i dont know if the other silk gonna do cocooning. he's soo stop.. but sunddently he moves and he eats a lot, so that can be natural, i think.

plz help me, thank you and congratz for ur cool video too :)

  • Hey, the mystery about your second worm may be resolved by now, but yes, worms can stay still for a couple of days. It does not mean they are dead. This is when they are changing there skin. They come out of their old skin and start growing again. Regarding your other question, well, if you don't have a female moth (they're not really butterflies), then you don't get eggs. Only females lay eggs :-)

  • I am thinking of rising silkworms, so silkwoms become white and furry when they grow up? I'm thinking of when the silkwom grows up and have wings, can I let them go, like go free to the wild, I don't want them to have babies at my home, or is it a bad thing?

  • Hi feather, sorry for the delayed response. The silkworms turn into moths (the white, furry things and with wings) They cant fly and they do not have a mouth, so they can neither eat or drink. They can't really live in the wild. They only live 3 to 5 days as moths. If you don't want them to make babies in your house, I suggest you set the cocoons out on a mulberry tree. They way, if they do life to make babies, the eggs will be on the right kind of tree. Good luck.

  • i want to ask u that how long does it take to get all the babies out O_o

  • It'll take a female only a couple of hours to lay all the eggs. Not sure if that's what you meant.

  • yea it is thx

  • Very good job. Especially the part where it laid eggs. 4:48 to about 6 minutes was sad though. lol.

  • Thanks. It is slightly depressing to see them die at the end...

  • wow nice!! i have also silkworms!! but the video is perfect!!

  • i must die some worms :( because i dont want have milions of them i only want have about 20 silk worms :D

  • Birds will be happy to help if you leave the extra's on a tree

  • I love your video, back in 2nd grade I had to raise a silk worm as part of a science project. I was so sad once it became a moth and died. :(

  • Yeah, I was a bit depressed when they all died :-(

  • can you hold them? where can you get them from? plz reply

  • Yeah, you can hold them. They are pretty sturdy . They're fun to hold. You can buy them on the internet. Just search for "silkworm egg"

  • amazing shit tho! lolz no mouth ... good video man. 5 stars for you coz u thaught me somfin'!

  • Thanks for the rating. glad you liked it.

  • does it only lives 4 months?

  • Yep, only 4 months, and most of it as a worm. As a moth, it only lives 3 to 5 days. The moth does not have a mouth, so it cannot eat or drink, only lay eggs.
