  • Ya the Foot work is Ba Qua, Allot of open handed forms have weapon forms that go along with them.

  • Done very well. His footwork seems to be Ba Qua....always walking in a circle.

  • Who is the performer? He has good control and some decent power.

  • Wow. I've seen Twin Hooks before, but never ones like these. The ones I saw were swords with cane-shaped blades. So, these are called "Deer Hooks"?

That said, thank you for posting this. Besides the weapons looking very interesting, I like how the demonstrator is calm, but at the same time, looks like he could efficiently make use of those if he really needed to. In other words, people such as this man put the word "Art" in "Martial Arts".

  • Some of the hand movements are similar to the ba da zhang that I study (I saw push outwards, holding the spear, (I think) piercing heaven and earth, the combat stance and yin yang yue)

  • this form comes from master liu jing ru.

  • your correct that theyre sometimes called antler knives

  • deer antler horns have 7 plaes to injur

  • i wouldnt call these swords, they're more like fist weapons

  • they go by many names, like deer antler knives, sun and moon blades, mandarin duck knives (don't know why THAT one).

whatever you call them they are very versatile, slice, stab, catch weapons, hook limbs, throw (like in crouching tiger, hidden dragon)

  • Mandarin Duck Axes usually have the 3 "prongs" instead of 4, and are called so b/c Mandarin Ducks always travel in pairs.

    Lewitt

  • OH! I always thought it was because they are similarly shaped to the mandarin duck's tail

  • Fantastic

  • He looks great love watching him perform!

If you like this type in Lian huan zhang

  • He is really cool i love watching him demonstrate! If you like this! type in lian huan zhang!

  • def bagua

  • impressive footwork and concentration.

  • The 1st time i saw this vid, i was awestruck. The fluidity of bagua is amazing..

  • Technically, they are called Yue, or Axes.... but they have many different names.

    Lewitt

  • Is that Bagua he's using along with the weapons?

  • I would think of those more as daggers than swords.

  • Never knew that deer style was still practised before.

    Nice job, it looks great.

  • This is Han Yan Wu filmed at Tenranting Park in Beijing. Not sure when it was filmed, but judging by the porn-star mo and how young he looked I'd say it was about 10 years ago. He is Master Liu Jing Ru's 'best' student in Cheng style Ba Gua. The deer hooks, or half-moon scimitars are a traditional bagua weapon aimed primarily at combating sword wielders. They are compact and seriously nasty if used properly with bagua's spiraling, twisting movements. A good weapon for small spaces...

  • I've never seen these being used before; it's very flowy and circular, isn't it? It'd be interesting to see these being used in combat (sparring)

  • rock on this is rocks

  • thankyou taoboxer for sharing your amazing collection

  • rooting does not apply as much in bagua; you must be shapeless like water and be able to change your stance and position quickly to help evade not block or withstand attacks.

  • This guy's Pa kua is amazing.

  • The wushu style of bagua is so bizzare. Why is he lifting his heels of the rear leg before the front leg has rooted? Has he never heard of rooting?

  • I love this kinda stuff... so awesome!
