when you copy paste it, you still have to type in "javascript" cuz for some reason it doesn't copy it onto the URL

thats interesting and all but you can do all that anyway without having to do what you just did. just type their name up in the giant chat thing and their name will come up even if they are offline. click on their name and then click the little tool circle thing in the corner of the chat box and a list will come up and in the list will say.......chat history.

I tried it just now and it worked. Maybe you formatted the javascript incorrectly. If you add any spaces or punctuation that doesn't belong it won't work. Try copy, pasting the javascript from the description. Add the friend ID in but leave the parentheses.
