i used to go to a place like this in the 70s, called skate city in london. i found a skateboard at work it is from the 70s. its got 70mm pink kryptonic wheels and california slalom trucks and slalom deck. verry very fast. im keeping it forever. priceless
@godsucksmyballs Actually this is 2nd generation. The 1st wave was more than a decade earlier with metal wheels, even the smoothest asphalt or concrete gave an incredible numbing buzz to the feet, and the noise! The urethane wheels and sealed ball bearings came in the 70s with the style like in this vid.
@chh5555 You mean "Flintstone chippaways" clay wheels, during the earlier part of the 70's and the later part of the sixties. Dig the catamaran style of two skaters interlocking feet and arms. My older brother and friend rode down "Rio Hondo College" Whittier, California,, hill north entrance onto Workman Mill road thru traffic light, about 15% grade.. these guys were psycho!! This parking structure is namby-pamby by comparisson.....lat'r Buzz
@lesterclaypool1 Um yeah, the actual use of "skateboards" didn't become popular until the sixties, anything prior to this was merely a "skooter". I started out on a Black Knight, wooden deck and clay wheels with an axle that pivoted. Easy to find on gooogle. Some chick auctioned one last year for ten measley bucks.. stoopid! I also put an old skate, nailed to a 18" 2x4, got bored after 15 minutes, just too frikken slippery, bad experiment, insto trash. Got the skater for xmas in 1967....
the afro, the all blue skateboard, the color, the quality of the vid(or the lack of it :s), makes this video the best skateboard vid i've ever seen! love it!
What those guy's are doing at :25 is what we used to call "catamaraning" back in the day, and it wasn't on wimpy downgrades like that parking structure they are on, it was down steep hills. It was a lot of fun and because of the way your weight was distributed you could handle steeper hills and more speed without your wheels wobbling. I had posters of dogtown guy's on my room walls in 1978-79'.
fuck this garage isnt there anymore.... i was trying to find it a couple weeks ago in downtown san diego but the highest gaage i found was the horton plaza mall garage
OMG I remember in the late 70s doing that thing with two people sitting on skateboards facing each other. That was so fun!! I can't remember what that was called.
@runcornrich yes, he has a trick named after him on the west coast. the Berteleman slide. that thing where you put your hand on the ground and slide, i can do 360s on the ground and 720 berts on ramps
lol that last part when the dude bombs the hill :)) lol...couldn't really get over on how the speed tuck used to look back then :)) looks freaking weird:)) i guess cause the board was pretty small:)) but the tuck wasn't that good...he got speed wobble a bit there on the last part:)) lmao:))
that guy at the end got off quite lightly,if it wasn't for that beetle car breaking his speed,he could of really smashed his fuckin face in further on!
That jazz that occurs in this is so carefree and mellow...you can really mind your own business and do your own thing to it! i,d buy the album! cha cha wub a dub cha ta ta ta zub a dub za... 1:30
Oh yeah, and in the 70s when the sex pistols was like the latest swear word on the block,we used skateboards to launch breeze blocks and rocks down the hill to see what would happen if we tried riding it..ever ran for your life when a big scary man comes after you after you have just stuffed his cortina with a foot sqare of purbeck rock from a wall?big kids can bolt faster and your left behind! poo your trousers ha ha!
I remember skateboards in the late 70s as the bigger kids had them. i could knee board but not stand up..i remember big kids eating shit and their dads picking them up off the floor while they were crying really scary loudly(so it must of REALLY HURT!!)any way ,my morbid interest in the danger factor of this led me to skate in the 80s.if it wasn't for the smash your face in factor, skating wouldn't be as fun..
I never got the whole "let's cross our legs and ride down a hill together thing" lol

I think he means the aluminium skateboards from the 40's and 50's with the metal wheels.
You see them turn up at skate shows every once and a while. Most of them were homemade, decks of a scooter modified, for example.
I've never tried one and I don't think that I would. Flintstone chipaways were enough of a death trap, IMO.
