I think people are being a little harsh on the interviewer. I think most of us would feel like a nervous, blathering, idiot in front of a genius like Bucky.

I wish those criticising would just listen (as BF is) to the host, as he also talks of the possibility of putting education video's on that two way TV ,and how great that it is , here we are at the other end of that hope timeline listening to that hope being realised.
Those of you slagging of the presenter, remember that this was 40 yrs ago and that how the presenters present today is completely different. The guy was old and rambling on about how one can put a little tiny belt on the outside of an atom and generate as much power as needed for the whole world. He said one atom would do it. It was just matter of figuring out how to adjust the belt. I sat there speechless. I dropped the class.

Love Bucky but I have to say he was and is still ahead of his time. People are not capable of accepting the concepts he espouses. Most are stuck in the middle ages at best as far as I am concerned. I agree! I took his "Anticipatory Design Science" course back in 1971 (I think) at Southern Illinois University. I loved the man and the team that taught this course.

I've been studying Bucky for 23 years and applying the principles to business - it works! Doing well by doing good -and all you can do is your little bit. Don't dismiss it because the problems seem too big. There are more than 70,000 business people world wide who do this. He provided the ignition point, it's up to us to continue to think for ourselves.
Bucky's main argument was doing more with less. Apply that principle to everything.
Ephemeralization is his word. Ephemeralization really puts power in the hands of the people. If we wanted to free people from jobs or make them have a higher wage at their job etc. It gives us the choice. Doing more with less is a tool that gives the people all the power.

Why do I get the feeling that we were ripped off as a people? Big business, big banking, Federal Reserves, CIA, I find out America is only a big business and everything is based off of money instead of morals. I get the feeling someone is gonna make off with all that cash we pay in taxes.

If we had this home as I have just described just think of all the jobs that are eliminated a home that can absorb small arms fire you have a bomb shelter. It has been almost 3 years and New Orleans is not rebuilt because the homeowners cant get the loans because the owners cant get the insurance the only people that can rebuild are those that have other sources for funding. The dome home is doomed in flooding but guess what you can design that home to float in the event of flooding.
These homes should have their own power source either solar wind wood gas generator biomass we have fuel sources that are local if we would just develop them. This home needs to have a garage that affords the same protection to the automobile too because we need cars as bad as we need shelter. Currently these are not developed because if the common man were truly efficient and energy independent too many people would have no job.

We were hit hard by Katrina the place were are in needed repairs I hated to invest more money into such a venerable structure but was already committed to it. We had to get repairs or get into the dome since not one lender would lend the money in Louisiana we had to opt for the repair.

Its a sad awakening, but one that is coming about by natural realization. Economicaly we are squeezed by a world built off of self gain instead of a vision of the whole in terms of needs. My back was broken in a tornado the problem was it was the second time I had a tornado handle me the first one just tossed the truck into the other lane the last one was ugly. As I sought the disaster proof home I came across the dome home and later I realized the efficiency of the home and decided to add to the home a off grid design why not we get the home first the off grid part would be easy the hard part is coming up with the $60k liquid to begin construction of the shell.
I understand the life of an exiled a truck drive is so alone then you get to where you are suppose to bring the load and you are treated like dirt, those in my occupation have been pigeonholed to be law breaking bipedal woolly mammoths. He found his own way, and he reaches out to everyone, to show them its not so bad to be exiled. Because he now better understands himself, and the universe for it. One more thing I'd like to point on in Mr. Fuller's words.. When he mentioned exiled, he was exiled or cast out, or hurt in some way, which brought about his isolation and dependency on himself to see the truth as it was, and not a he was taught by the world. He took in what he knew man needed, what he needed, instead of everything he was taught assuming it was right. He proved it to be false. And his much deeper understanding of this allowed him to be free from oppinion and critisism.
But all in all.. Here's the bottom line. Only Truth can save this world. We need to discern the false, and move on. There are so many things we should be working on instead of saving money. We need a plan to let that go, but all in all, we need to understand that we can't harvest more resources, then the earth produces over time. We must regulate our intake, according to our resource production, and find alternatives in the meantime. To find that perfect harmony of man and earth
Interests are what entices us, and correct information is what feeds us. But like Mr. Fuller stated, as I have seen myself, it's bad if you lie to yourself, but its still bad if you lie to someone else, just to get ahead. I mean, what are we trying to get ahead of? The next guy? We should be helping him, not stepping on him. We have to get out of this way of thinking if we're going to improve.
Man's nature is to follow his peers. Its how the world got to where its at now. We really need to stop following others and be truthful to ourselves. But if those that resist that and keep following, then let them follow someone who wants to improve. Sort of reverse psychology. But we need to rank information, so to speak. Influence people to want to achieve deeper knowledge and understanding. In a system that groups like minded people together. Yet available for all.
I can learn something from everyone. All of our answers can be answered if we would just look and listen. When people belittle someone, then they tune them out and shut them off, and nothing is learned from either side. I have an idea for information output over the internet. Its a start, but far from what's needed to accomplish a world union of understanding. At the pace of everyone's wills. Noone forced, noone held captive. As it catches on, people will follow.

His belief on information is correct is people would cast off their cultural differences ie their religion. We would have to be truly religious not figuratively because we would have to treat others as we want to ourselves be treated only globally that would also mean humanity would need to avoid the power of nationalism.

Dymaxion? It's a plane fuselage with-out it's wings and a tail section. That's all. If you look at the plane designs of that era (1930's) you can see exactly where he got his so-called Dymaxion design. It's comical really.

We used to laugh and crack jokes when they'd play his lectures in class. The teachers got totally pissed-off. @retecked The dome got a grant? I saw the dome in '89. I might have even gone inside. My memory is foggy. Later, in 1990, I took a class from one of his protégés. The guy was old and rambling on about how one can put a little tiny belt on the outside of an atom and generate as much power as needed for the whole world. He said one atom would do it. It was just matter of figuring out how to adjust the belt. I sat there speechless. I dropped the class.

I like the discussion starting around 48:00, reflecting on the distribution of communications via cable system, and eventually enabling more participation by all the viewers. Fuller also tells about an article he wrote in 1940 proposing telephone voting. Although they had too much faith in what cable would provide, they are anticipating the enormous importance of what we can now finally do on the internet. And here we are making it happen!

The sad thing about this video is that it is the best one except those that are from acoles51. What is sad is that the BFI or the modern office that represents Mr. Fuller will not allow any of his great archives out to the public for selfish money reasons. This seem like a great video. The Buckminster Fuller Institute should give out to the public all info & not kept for money for the family only profit.

I agree! I took his "Anticipatory Design Science" course back in 1971 (I think) at Southern Illinois University. I loved the man and the team that taught this course.
We are seemingly stuck in the veritable dark ages and, because we seem incapable of keeping the wrong people out of power, we may well die off as a species - if not a planet - before we embrace a more enlightened state.
There seems to be no impetus to achieving betterment....

He basically said that the cold war didn't have to happen, that the Soviets didn't have great designs on the world -- and at the same time he worked for the Navy, and was contracted by the Pentagon -- for the lightweight geodesic domes.
I find most inspiring that he drew up a world power grid -- an electrical power system that stretches over the north pole that flows from geography to geography -- a catalyst for sharing.

I've been studying Bucky for 23 years and applying the principles to business - it works! Doing well by doing good -and all you can do is your little bit. Don't dismiss it because the problems seem too big. There are more than 70,000 business people world wide who do this. There were MDI domes in Iraq that were bombed with 500 or 5000 lb bombs who cares if you have a structure that can survive either weight of bomb it is amazing the structure was still good needed a lot of work but the building stood. Should I get the money to build I would build the AI dome because they look better in person and they know what the cost is right now.

They are building dome schools and the domes save the owners so much in utilities alone the dome pays for its cost of building just with that alone. The monolithic dome institute is on line and will educate you about all the facts regarding domes Mr. David South started MDI and his applications are even used in industrial areas for oil storage, and more.

If we had this home as I have just described just think of all the jobs that are eliminated a home that can absorb small arms fire you have a bomb shelter. It has been almost 3 years and New Orleans is not rebuilt because the homeowners cant get the loans because the owners cant get the insurance the only people that can rebuild are those that have other sources for funding. The dome home is doomed in flooding but guess what you can design that home to float in the event of flooding.

These homes should have their own power source either solar wind wood gas generator biomass we have fuel sources that are local if we would just develop them. This home needs to have a garage that affords the same protection to the automobile too because we need cars as bad as we need shelter. Currently these are not developed because if the common man were truly efficient and energy independent too many people would have no job.

The growth is deemed d good but the roads are not being widened to handle a mass exodus, as with Katrina I don't believe in leaving for a storm build homes that can weather the storm each home should have water storage for at least a month.

Anyhow, there's a spirit trying to express itself through all men. It takes truth to uncover what ther spirit is. I do fear, that the false of this world will uncover something we don't want uncovered. Yet time itself will tell. Weather we're there to see it or not. What I really can't understand is prison it cost more for them to incarcerate you than it cost to educate you. If more care and understanding were used in our legal justice industry we could have real results. But that is the problem we have a legal justice industry not a system.

Yes. I agree with you there too. But when people are turned back out on the streets, they are bitter. Firstly, noone showed they cared. That would make anyone bitter. So the message taught is figure out on your own, or die trying. It brings out the animalistics in society. Man wants to be given a chance, but TV influences us with negative ideas, which man looks to experience what he knows. And what has he been fead? Violence, instead of rational problem solving.

Simply having housing is not the answer those in the projects have solid housing but the gangs are allowed to infiltrate. We need law enforcement but the problem is the average citizen is not allowed to carry to protect himself. One day I will have that dome home and will be able to grow my own food on my own land. It use to be ok if you just took care of your own.

We were hit hard by Katrina the place were are in needed repairs I hated to invest more money into such a venerable structure but was already committed to it. My aim was to live there long enough to save the funds and them break ground on the dome home. That storm blasted holes in the walls that allowed squirrels to get in the house. We had to get repairs or get into the dome since not one lender would lend the money in Louisiana we had to opt for the repair.

I totally see your point cdltpx. We're at a point to where we're losing faith in man and becoming more dependant on ourselves. Its a sad awakening, but one that is coming about by natural realization. Economicaly we are squeezed by a world built off of self gain instead of a vision of the whole in terms of needs. We're all vicitms to economical displacement of our true needs.

My back was broken in a tornado the problem was it was the second time I had a tornado handle me the first one just tossed the truck into the other lane the last one was ugly. As I sought the disaster proof home I came across the dome home and later I realized the efficiency of the home and decided to add to the home a off grid design why not we get the home first the off grid part would be easy the hard part is coming up with the $60k liquid to begin construction of the shell.

I understand the life of an exiled a truck drive is so alone then you get to where you are suppose to bring the load and you are treated like dirt, those in my occupation have been pigeonholed to be law breaking bipedal woolly mammoths. The only reason I have continued plying this trade is I want to save the cash needed to build one of the indestructible homes from either AI domes or monolithic domes.

He found his own way, and he reaches out to everyone, to show them its not so bad to be exiled. Because he now better understands himself, and the universe for it. And he offers it to us, unlike the way we cast him out. A beautiful exibit of spirit and science and what we can really accomplish if we were to all work together instead of for ourselves.

One more thing I'd like to point on in Mr. Fuller's words.. When he mentioned exiled, he was exiled or cast out, or hurt in some way, which brought about his isolation and dependency on himself to see the truth as it was, and not a he was taught by the world. He took in what he knew man needed, what he needed, instead of everything he was taught assuming it was right. He proved it to be false. And his much deeper understanding of this allowed him to be free from oppinion and critisism.

But all in all.. Here's the bottom line. Only Truth can save this world. We need to discern the false, and move on. There are so many things we should be working on instead of saving money. We need a plan to let that go, but all in all, we need to understand that we can't harvest more resources, then the earth produces over time. Interests are what entices us, and correct information is what feeds us. But like Mr. Fuller stated, as I have seen myself, it's bad if you lie to yourself, but its still bad if you lie to someone else, just to get ahead. I mean, what are we trying to get ahead of? The next guy? We should be helping him, not stepping on him. We have to get out of this way of thinking if we're going to improve.

Man's nature is to follow his peers. Its how the world got to where its at now. We really need to stop following others and be truthful to ourselves. But if those that resist that and keep following, then let them follow someone who wants to improve. Sort of reverse psychology. But we need to rank information, so to speak. Influence people to want to achieve deeper knowledge and understanding. In a system that groups like minded people together. Yet available for all.

I can learn something from everyone. All of our answers can be answered if we would just look and listen. When people belittle someone, then they tune them out and shut them off, and nothing is learned from either side. I have an idea for information output over the internet. Its a start, but far from what's needed to accomplish a world union of understanding. At the pace of everyone's wills. Noone forced, noone held captive. As it catches on, people will follow.

His belief on information is correct is people would cast off their cultural differences ie their religion. We would have to be truly religious not figuratively because we would have to treat others as we want to ourselves be treated only globally that would also mean humanity would need to avoid the power of nationalism.

A home that uses 1/3 the energy of a traditional home could be run off of solar and wind power. But we don't go that way because we are forced to reinvest in failing processes to keep the GDP on trac. No positive GDP the world bank needs to instigate another war to stimulate the economy.

The problem with self sufficiency is the leaders believe society would introvert I believe the opposite is true we would have the time to think clearly and on precisely what is needed at the time and for the future.
I went to the bank to get a loan for a dome home and was completely shut out their claim is they need an example home in this area first then they could asses the asset and possess the authority to lend the funds.

The more efficient the home is the less electrical supply will be needed then the less power needed to survive comfortably and the ability to provide for ones own home with green resources. The reason we are not all living in a Fuller designed dome home is it is too efficient. Think about it, You build one house one time that home last your entire life no matter the disaster. Should a flood inundate it the home would survive its contents might need to be changed but the structure would not need any structural changes.

It seems to me that he was trying to advertise this for over 30 years, yet it was not made public. My question is this, now that Burce Mau and many others are working out a plan on structuring the world, some 33 years after this video, How can we gaurantee that their plan is not a political self secured structer, but one for all of mankind? I mean shouldn't we see the big picture or will it be impletmented by force?
