  • To anyone watching, PCOS symptoms can be better controlled and lessened following a low carb, paleo or ancestral diet. You can get your life back.

  • @TheFremenChick i did this and this only works for a fraction of people.

  • my sister was 8...

  • im 21 and i have pcos and its fucked up i hate it soooooooo bad

  • @themrsbabycakes what are you talking about the hirsutism, insulin resistance, weight and female pattern baldness is sweet!

  • (c) control for treatment, but all it does is slow it down. I have a LOT of hair and always feel very ugly with it.

  • I have this. The facial hair part of it especially. I grow it bad on my face, neck, chest, back, and stomach. It's taken control of my life and I don't like leaving the house. I have to shave my face every other day and often wonder if this will be how I will live the rest of my life. Can't afford electrolysis or anything else like that. I am overweight, but trying my hardest to overcome that as well. If anyone has any advice, I would love some. :) I'm on Spironolactone and Zarah birth (c)

  • THIS IS EXACTLY MY STORY TOO ASHLEY!!! AMEN FOR BEING STRONG!

  • There is Hope !!! I was diagnosed at 21 and 3 years later with the help of fertility drugs I now have a 9 month old healthy happy baby boy :)

  • You can have children with this, there is hope. I didn't know I had it until AFTER my third child. I did have several miscarriages in between them, but I didn't even know I had it and thats why it took so long to diagnose me because I had children. I too as the other listed below became anemic during prego so thats is something to watch out. I also want to mention I had no fertility aides.

  • I was just diagnosed last month and am honestly kind of scared. My doctor told me not to worry but I just can't help. Any advice?

  • @singingislife18 Actually You doctor is right. I've been diagnosed with PCOS since I was 17 - my first period was when I was 10. My symptoms were just light the woman on the video, except for the skyrocketing overweight and the hair on the chest - but my legs are something, I heve to wax them every 15 days and it's difficult to balance my weight. But still I managed. I have got anemic because of the loss of blood. The cramps were awful enough to send me to the hospital...

  • @singingislife18 even so... when I was 17 my ginecologist presented me to this most wonderful miracle - contraceptives. They regulated my period cicle, the acne, the cramps and the massive loss of blood that I had. Talk to your doctor and see what he can do. Unfortunatly PCOS doesn't have cure, but some doctors say that it usually gets better after the first pregnancy... And don't ever believe that you can't get pregnant, you can! Don't take chances (unless you want) 'cause they might get you!

  • @lillianpedersen My doctor prescribed me birth control. Thanks everyone!

  • Okay I don't get how people could dislike this show. What's there to dislike? I mean sure as hell if I had symptoms that my doctor dismissed and I went home and turned on the tv and saw this show mystery diagnosis and I had the same symptoms as they did then this show is doing good for society. I bet the people who dislike this show watch them have something rare like these people did and no they won't be disliking this show anymore :)

  • I have this shit. I want to cry.

  • i dont have any rare or bad diseases but i get the same period problems she does!! cause when i get my period it is VERY heavy and i lose ALOT of blood...and i feel weak and tired all the time and doctors have found no explaination so i know how she feels about tht problem

  • Life is just a balance of the positive and negative, pleasure and pain. Seek the truth to live in harmony with the balance. Search Truth Contest in google and read The Present on the homepage.

  • So, Yesterday the doctor prescribed me metrformin and birth control pills.

She handed me a piece of paper to describe what pcos is. She took blood out of me, and on thursday this week I'll be getting an ultrasound to see if I have any cysts and out how severe it is.. She didn't tell me directly that I have PCOS. So.. I'm scared, and I hope I turn out not having it.. because I don't have all the symptoms.. or could I still have PCOS if I don't have all the symptoms..?

  • As a sufferer of PCOS, I can 100% completely relate to what this poor lady has gone through. I'm still going through it. It's miserable...

  • It has been a long journey since I first recorded this segment in NYC in 2006! I am gald to see it is still palying here on youtube nad on DHC, A and E, TLC and Discovery!!! Thanks for all the views and the comments!! I am inspired every day by my fellow cysters and their supporters!! Don't forget to sign your name to the monumental PCOS Online Petition with over 10,000 signatures and to tlak and learn more about PCOS add me on facebook... jerzgal !! Thanks againf or watching everyone!!!

  • 5-10 % of women have PCOS, Victoria Beckham is one of them

  • @MyUsername156 I doubt it, she's had 4 successful pregnancies and she's quite underweight.

  • @PrincessKLS nope, it's true. that's my point. this video kind of makes it seem like if you have PCOS, you're doomed. but she's got it, and she's gone on to have children etc.

  • @AyZeD she is sick...r u?????

  • I have PCOS and CELIAC DISEASE, the most undiagnosed and easily treated disease that causes stomach problems. PROBIOTICS, GLUTEN FREE AND a SIMPLE BLOOD TEST CAN TELL YOU demand the blood test. Other symptoms under or over weight, various gastric complaints, IBS, constipation, diarrhea, abdominal pain and bloating. Anemia, Crohns, PCOS, gastric ulcers, parasitic infection skin disorders, nerves, numbness in arms and legs: all COULD BE CELIAC!

  • I have Pcos and have a wonderful 19month old son... it is possible... just keep trying! =)

  • Ladies I have a PCOS SUpport group on facebook please join, just searchFOR THE WOMEN WHO LIVE WITH POLYCYSTIC OVARIAN SYNDROME (PCOS)

  • Its hard having pcos I'm 22 and have it everyday I think about it I get so angry because I wish I did! I just keep taking my pills though and hope for a miracle that one day I can have a baby and everything be fine! I'm sorry to all the women who have it! I know how it feels to deal with it!

  • I'm going to see my doctor about this in two days..

  • I have PCOS it is very hard to go through this when you are a young, teen years are already hard enough, but once you get it under control and you get used to what you have to go through and how to handle it you can have a normal life.

  • I hate how the doctors just throw oral contraceptives at you without checking your estrogen/progesterone/androgen/testosterone levels. The doctors are not trained to deal with PCOS at all, which is why girls need to be our own advocate.

  • i was diagnosed with pcos when i was 16 and was told id never have kids my weight ballooned up from a size 10 to size 18/20 got the hairyness everywhere and skintags irregular periods hairloss not severe tho and different coloured blotches on my skin i thankfully got pregnant at age 19 then my other little girl came when i was 26 so there is hope for other girls that suffer with pcos out there, the thing that usually helps with weightloss is metformin and dianette the contraceptive pill for hair

  • PCOS is no fun at all. Her story sounds so much like my own. I started at 8 just fine, then quit for almost three years and started again for a few months, quit again and started again at 13. That's when I got Diagnosed with PCOS. I've lived with it for almost 13 years now and it doesn't get any easier.

  • poor girl :(

  • I'm getting some tests done next month because I have almost all the symptoms - wish me luck, I really hope I don't have it :/

  • I am 18 and have just been diagnosed with this. Yes, I can dwell on the fact that I could have been diagnosed and started treatment earlier, but I figure that 18 is still very young, many people remain undiagnosed in their 30's, 40's and beyond. If any of these symptoms sound familiar, see your doctor, you have nothing to loose. I also think awareness needs to be increased. It was only by chance I even heard of PCOS

  • I Have The EXACT Same Thing. I Have Pcos Too And Its Extremely Painful :(

  • i have PCOS, and I'm 16. I gain weight easily, but i'm not over weight

  • I think my mom has this.

  • I am 16 and have found out that PCOS runs in my family, and that I have it. I have been taking Metformin for the past 2-3 months, and I'm now on my period, although it is spotty, and lasts longer than most. It's also helped me lose 15 pounds! 8D

  • Im 26 years old and been suffering with hirsutism all my life & its really geting me down and also suffering with depression because of it!

My only dream is to be able to wear nice clothes and bikini but i know i will never be able to as i have excess hair all over my body.

My doctor cant seem to find anything wrong with me and just put me on Diannette pill! Im hoping to try laser hair removal soon. Im shaving most of what i can.

I cry and look at those beautiful woman and wish i was like them.

  • I was put on Metformin for years, and just this year I was hospitalized and they found out that the Metformin gave me Fatty liver. Everyone kept asking me if I was a heavy drinker ( Which I do not drink at all because I am allergic to beer , etc) and that I had the liver of an alcoholic. Don't take Metformin!

  • I have PCOS too and I barley ever have a period STILL. I have been on metformin for over a year now and I have only had my period once since than and it was my first one since I was about 14. I am not over weight but I have hair on my chest and on my face. I don't know why but I than spotted 8 days later and it was REALLY heavy. I go to the drs on the 12 but has this happened to any other girls out here? PCOS is so strange.

  • Hello, does anyone know what the best way to get a definitive yes.no diagnosis is?

Last week a scan of my abdomen (for an unrelated issue) showed that I have follicular cysts. Multiple, more on the right than on the left. Now my family doctor says it's nothing to worry about - but I have some classic symptoms : facial hair (which I laser off), hair loss on the head, struggling with weight since young age, irregular periods. How do I make sure it either is/or isn't PCOS?

  • @Kayelle1980

The scan in itself isn't diagnosis. Ask for the following blood tests:

    Testosterone

    LH

    Prolactin

    Sex Hormone Binding Globulin

    Androstenedione

    Estradiol

They can't just stop at the scan. Get them to do those blood tests and see what they come back with.

  • @AmelieYvette hey i have pcos and my doc only says she can give me birth controls but all of them make me sick???!!! any other meds that are available for me..no period in 6m

  • @princess82944

I've been put on Metformin which is a diabetes drug. I've yet to see what it does as i've been on it less than a week.

My doctor told me that the pill is to give you periods if you don't them. This is because if you don't shed your womb lining, it builds up and gets too thick. So from a safety point of view if you don't have more than 3 periods a year, you need the pill for withrawal bleeds.

You could ask about metformin but that makes you feel sick too.

  • @AmelieYvette thank u soooo much

  • @AmelieYvette

    Hi,

I know it's not a diagnosis. I want to get one - or rule out PCOS for certain. But my family doctor doesn't think anything's wrong, so I'll need to take it to another doctor. I want a second opinion, but I wonder if a regular ob/gyn is the right doc, or an endocrinologist, or what?

My testosterone has always been high, but withing acceptable levels for a female still. I had elevated dihydrotestosterone, last I checked.

  • @Kayelle1980

Hi as I said below, the diagnosis is more based on blood tests / clinical signs of hyperandrogenism. The diagnosis is cased on having one or more of the following:

Infrequent or no ovulation — for example infertility, oligomenorrhoea, or amenorrhoea.

Hyperandrogenism: hirsutism, acne vulgaris occurring after adolescence, or alopecia.

You've had the scan, now you need the rest. Get the blood tests below and look for excess hair, acne, etc. An endocrinologist is best

  • Man i am so glad im not a girl

  • @flamezombie1 man have other problems too.

  • A very interesting story of a diagnosis gone wrong. It is extremely important to go to a physician who will listen to you & take the time to do a differential diagnosis. It is one of the first things you learn to do in med school and I have found in many of the patients who come to me after being put on bcp or clomid or metformin...that their doc was negligent in doing a proper health & physical. There is no quick fix but with proper treatment, PCOS can be controlled and you can have children!

  • @RandomLeanne...isn't that so funny how you can spot your PCOS Cysters a mile a way! I do that constantly! Diagnosed a dear friend 8 years before her official diagnosis!

  • i agree with u girl! i am 12 weeks and i have pcos! keep trying and chin up ladys

  • i have pcos and i dont think i have it i need to do more testing and my period has been irrangular ever since ive been try for a baby which the sperm is messing up my cycle ! i have heavy periods and i dont have lots of hair or i was never obsie when i was younger .i think my bfs sperm is messing up my cycle

  • i diagnosed her before the show did. i have it, i knew the symptoms. xD

  • That trip to they OBGYN sounds exactly like what happened to me. They stuck me on birth control and that was the end of it. Nevermind that I was growing hair all over like a man, that my voice was deepening, that I didn't have a natural period... sometimes doctors can be the stupidest people in the room.

  • @maclose I was put on birth control to and they consider it a period when it's just a withdrawl period too. There is no egg being released. some health care professionals are so stupid. I don't understand how going on a drug can regulate your menstrual cycle when you aren't have one.YOu are going through withdrawl of not having the pill once a month.if it really made it regular than you'd be having a true menstrual cycle.I never understood the logic of that and they did that to me when I was 15

  • im 14 i have pcos the summer between 5th and 6th grade my waight went way up i got to 150 pounds and only 4 foot 11 and got acne all over my body not much on my face tho and then i was diegnosed with pcos in 7th grade and was put on some medicine and lost some weight now im about 5 foot 1 and 120 pounds which is aveerage but still im bigger then my sisters and the rest of my skinny family and i really hate pcos

  • wow this video really hits home w/ me. i can so relate iam crying as i watch this. i struggled for so long w/ this until finally at age 20 got diagnosed by an endrocrimologist.. w/ pcos.. was put on metaformin.. did well on that. but then stopped taking it for some stupid reason. at 28 now i notice my symptoms getting worse and worse. sometimes i just look in the mirror all i do is cry having this syndrome sucks. i hope u find peace and answers i can relate godbless xo jackie xo

  • I am so excited this is still running on youtube and on television! It has been a long journey since I first recorded this episode back in 2004! • They put a THIRTEEN year old on BIRTH CONTROL??? Okay that's just wrong!

  • @Nine00 Not really. Some could argue that it is wrong when the purpose is to act as an anti-pregnancy concept. However, birth control is often one of the first options because it can lighten periods, make them regular, and make them less painful. It shouldn't be the only form of help, but doctors do often throw young girls on it for those reasons.

  • @Nine00 shut the fuck up..

  • am 16 and i have hair on my chin i have PCOS some doctors say no but one said yes i do have that. i gain so much weight and its hard for me to be in public bc i was afraid people would tease me about my facial hair.and now the doctors gave me birth control pills.its hard for me

  • -GO VEGAN-

I was born with heart disease & had open heart surgery at 5. My wife has PCOS. I've noticed most people find it hard to believe that a simple "diet" / food program change could help. In our case it has. It starts with educating yourself & what u buy . For us it's the DARK GREEN VEGGIES is the key. Try watching RAW RADIANT HEALTH on yutube. She's awesome. Yes she HAD PCOS.

  • @avisbro Amazing advice! Anyone with PCOS should certainly watch Natasha and it is all about attempting to make healthier decisions! :)

  • Wow. I gained weight around that age too and my hair changed too lol. But no chest hair or anything like that. But I did have one SEVERE period with HORRIBLE screaming kinda painful cramps, around 13-14. And my periods were painful during those pubescent years. And they weren't regular! But didn't think anything of it. Now I'm 21 and finally been diagnosed with PCOS.

  • I have PCOS as well and have been very lucky to not have all the symptoms. Although, it nearly ruined my marriage when we found out I would have difficulty conceiving and when I gained 30 pounds in 2 months. I was diagnosed 2 years ago and tried clomid with no success. I am now 10 weeks pregnant so there is hope!

  • I was on the pills then too. Thanks to PCOS.

  • i have pcos and it has ruined my life to the point where i wont even get a job because of my skin/facial hair and skin tags and the weight problem. i dont wear tank tops in summer and i cover my face with heavy makeup . it's embarassing and people still notice it and point it out. makes me want to live in my house and not come out.

  • @natesmom2244 have you talked to your doctor about a treatment of Metformin, spironalactone and diet? There is hope!

  • thnx for this

pcos is terrible to live with

  • Wow, thank you for posting this. It is good to know youre not alone in the struggle, one that makes you feel so bizarre.

  • what kind of diet are u on?

  • My doctors prescribed birth control pills and I took them for a couple of years. I didnt see any improvement and the thought of intaking so much chemical regularly made me stop it. I dont take any medication. I think healthy diet (I m a vegetarian) and regular exercise (Pranayama) helps.

  • I have PCOS since adolescence and now I m 30(single),and still dont quite understand the seriousness of the problem. Some of the effects that I have been experincing through years are-painful and? irregular periods(no upto 4 months),irregular sleep, oily and acne prone skin, dandruff, little extra around the belly(slim otherwise),not very energetic, extra hairs in some parts of the body, strong sense of smell, have a sweet tooth. I dont know how it is going be when I'll want to start a family.

  • @LaggardInLove Can insomnia be a side effect of the pill? My doctor said no but according to him Ibs sufferers just have to suck it up. =\

  • I read that PCOS can come from the mother. Well my daughter has it and I don't and my mother does not have it. So I don't understand why she has it.

  • @prettyface777 A lot of genetic disorders/diseases skip a generation. I'm very sorry that your daughter has to suffer. I don't take what health I do have for granted that's for sure! But the bright side is perhaps her daughter won't have PCOS.

  • @ prettyface777:

Studies have found that PCOS is more likely to occur if a woman has gone through early puberty, which is somewhat of a mystery in and of itself. A diet high in soy from a very young age, hormones in supermarket milk, anything that can adversely affect the endocrine system could be to blame, especially if there's no family history of it.

  • this is me. i was 300 lbs at 20 when I had gastric bypass surgery after obgyns told me my painful irregular periods were due to my obesity and I was causing my own infertility. After surgery I strunk down to a size 00. 1 year later and on my honeymoon I began a 40 day period that was my last one in 2 years. I then gained 60 pounds rapidly eating baby food due to lesions in my mouth. They found a tumor in my brain, plus all over my ovaries, uterus, and on the move towards my abdomen. Im 24

  • @livinluxuriously this is me? as in the video...? I hope they took care of all the tumors !

  • I also have PCOS. I was diagnosed a year ago after failing to concieve for a year before that. We were put on BCP's and it was horrible. We took a year to find another option and now we are trying again. We are taking a much more natural aporach to our infertility and it's a choice I can live with for now. I take a fertility tea and use Natural Progesterone cream. I will be adding Vid's to my account here ASAP on what I find and how it effect's me.

  • I have pcos and i just started takeing metformin and so far i havent noticed any real changes . Im trying to conceve and tyring to lose weight . Its very stressful

  • How long have you been on Metformin? It may take quite a few months for you to notice big changes.

  • I've been doing all these tests this summer that's emotionaaly drained me. I didn't go out much at all but the thing is i've noticed most are on metformin but i'm on tranexamic acid, codrydamol and ferrous sulphate because of my anaemia. It's all too stressful and i hope one day this can all be relieved cos it's pure torture

  • I have PCOS-- I started gaining weight for apparently no reason, I didn't know what it was for years, and was recently diagnosed. I also have had the excess facial hair and very erratic and long-spaced periods. I was with a man for months and months and didn't use birth control and never became pregnant.

  • I was just told that i have PCOS, but i dont even know what it is.. So is it possible to get pregnant?

  • Pcos makes it hard to with prego i have pcos but im curenttly 23 weeks pregnant there is hope girls

  • @yourfashionjsoie I am currently tryignt o concieve with PCOS on Metformin and starting Clomid this next cycle! Congrats on ur baby!

  • @yourfashionjsoie congrats.. i'm trying myself.. what did you do?

  • @yourfashionjsoie naturally get pregnant or did you get help??? i have pcos and i have been trying for 1.5 yrs now. i have a 5 yr old and 3 yr old and got pregnant no problem with them.. but after my youngest things went down hill from there..

  • @yourfashionjsoie

im 15 years old, and i have PCOS. Reading your comment gave me hope for my future♥

  • @StrictlyChaoss i am 16 and i just got diagnosed<3 You're right.

  • @yourfashionjsoie How did you do it... Im struggling.

  • @yourfashionjsoie Thank you so much for your comment. I was diagnosed with pcos 3 years ago, but had dealt with it for a long long time from about the age of 13 on. It even caused me to hit puberty late. I didn't even start having a period till the age of 16 which concerned me. When it started it got ten times worse. I had extremely painful and heavy periods which on multiple occasions caused me to lose jobs and call sick into school a lot. There were even a few occasions where

  • family members would have to come and get me from school. Tried birth control which helped the pain but didn't get rid of it. I finally went to the doc and they decided to to a laproscopic surgery because I had too many cysts to treat with birth control on their own and they weren't sure if it was cysts or tumors. After surgery it was confirmed that it was indeed PCOS. I've since had a few friends diagnosed with it as well with different degrees. I'm fortunate of not having to deal with

  • facial hair and all that comes with it physically but they still hurt from time to time. The surgery was the best thing I ever did. I also have normal periods which is nice, but the fear that keeps staying in the back of my mind is whether I'll be able to get pregnant. I'm at the point in my life where I'm ready to settle down and have a family and that's one fear that gets to me. Motherhood is a dream I've had for as long as I could walk and talk. Reading your comment, brought a tear to my

  • eyes and brought me hope. Thank you so much for that nice comment.

  • So people with PCOS dont have pain?

  • This lady is exactly like me. I feel the same way - overnight I went from such a beautiful albeit chubby kid to "quasimodo". SRSLY. At 9 yrs old. I'll never forget, right after I got over chicken pox I started developing acne. My mother took me to the pediatrician because "the pox wasn't going away". She laughed and told my mom it was acne. That was the beginning of some crazy hormone problems for the next 10 years. Thank god for ultra low carb diets.

  • Yeah, I've just been diagnosed after living with this for years. I have sideburns and an almost-mustache, besides the other symptoms. Compared to this woman's problems, however, my stuff is mild.

  • Ive quit taking metformin after 5yrs and started taking vitamins. i feel way better than i did taking that other stuff

  • they said the same to me, "Its hormones, take these." I looked it up myself and found out about PCOS

  • This happened to me too. I guess it's very common.

Go on a very low carb diet (60 or less with most calories from fats). Almost all women with PCOS symptoms will become normal and lose weight with such a diet.

  • i feel so sorry for her especially when she would get up and see blood. it made me wanna cry for her.

  • i've never had a period i'm 15 until my doc put me on birth control and it sucks(the periods)

i have PCOS well its not really confirmed yet but its pretty obvious i have all the symptoms

  • This sounds like my story. However in my story I diagnose myself and tell my doctor and then he confirmed it. Too late though. I am diabetic now. Yes!!! Some people who get PCOS become diabetic if they don't get on Metformin to sensitze themselves to insulin. My PCOS symptoms subsided when I became diabetic, but when I was put on insulin it flared up again. I just got on Metformin after all these years and I hope it helps. Carbohydrates are our enemies ladies. We are especially sensitive.

  • @Artist12682, If I'm not mistaken, you probably had insulin resistance first. Not all people with PCOS have insulin resistance.

Type2 diabetes can be reversed. There is hope. Have you ever considered a low-glycemic raw vegan diet? I have been eating this way for two weeks and already feel so much better.

  • Her period situation in school must have been absolutely mortifying. I can't even imagine how embarassed I would be if that was me.

  • @NYCindustries That was me. I fought for a diagnosis for 20 years. It came too late.

  • I'm just curious, since I'm a male, is it a bad thing when a woman doesnt have her period the normal time once a month?

  • No. As long as a woman has a period once every three months, everything's considered normal.

Less frequently than once every three months, or bleeding that doesn't seem to stop for weeks or even months on end, and there's a problem.

  • Yes it's bad if she's not on birth control.

Women are shedding their lining and we call that a period. Anytime you don't shed your lining it builds up causing serious issues.

Think about it like if you didn't go #2 for 60 days. How much pain would you be in?

    That describes PCOS.

  • I haven't had my period in 6 months or more, I have pcos and I'm not in pain.

  • No. i dont haev it and im fine.

  • wow this is so crazy n scary i was told the same thing when i was a teenager n was also just put on birth control =( but wasnt explained why only that it wasnt my thyroid i was diagnosed when i was 20 n now 25 but 2all of ya who r going trough this dont worry when it comes time n u wanna start a family it isnt impossible

  • I was diagnosed with PCOS yesterday. I always knew something was wrong and last year I got a period from hell. I bled non-stop heavily for 4 days straight before it tapered off. I had to miss work and I couldn't walk. I was put on BC, but I hated the side effects.

Now I haven't had a period since November 2008 and all the gyn could tell me was continue losing weight and if nothing changes in 6 months I have to go on meds. I'm just 21.

    I understand this woman's pain.

  • Sadly, that's a common story. Even when weight gain is the last symptom to appear, many doctors will tell you all your problems will vanish if you lose weight. As for the period problems, many doctors just brush it off as "women have to live with it" (female doctors are worse than men for this one).

Worse, recent conferences stated of all the symptoms, only three are allowed for clinical diagnosis. If you have the "wrong" symptoms, there's no help unless you want to conceive!

  • And if you try and go to the doctors for help after awhile they classify you as hysterical and you don't get taken seriously.

I haven't reached that point, but I have had many doctors tell me to calm down and just lose weight and everything will be ok. Now that I know I have PCOS I realize why losing weight has been so difficult for me.

  • I'm on my own now. They won't do anything more unless I decide to have children. I get better support from fellow sufferers than the medical profession. It shouldn't be that way, but it is. Even with PCOS, some consultants - despite being "experts" in the field - still don't seem to have a clue.

  • i too have PCOS with all the symptoms.

i went through a similar things as you, diagnosed at 20 and put on BC but altho i found it eventualy regulated my periods and decressed the heaviness, i gained weight which increased the rest of the symptoms.

i am now on metformin a diabetic drug to help loose weight, which i am slowly doing. it took many years to get a doctor to perscribe me it, as its still on trial with PCOS sufferers. Try vitamin supliments also which can help weight loss etc

  • I was going crazy with chocolate cravings - I knew they were unnatural because giving in to them made them worse rather than easing them. Other PCOS women understood but doctors brush it off as "lack of willpower". For other reasons, I began drinking smoothies for breakfast - cravings vanished in a week. Nutritionist told me the cravings were probably magnesium deficiency (common problem for women) and my smoothies had high-magnesium fruit... turned out, she was right. I was self-medicating! :)

  • How under developed is today's modern medicine if something like PCOS, something that affects 7 to 15% of women, ends up on "Mystery Diagnosis"? Think about it...every day a new viagra drug comes out, but no miracle breastcancer treatment, no PCOS medicine. We're on birth control pills here like some sort of modern sl*t because no one cares, and if anyone does voice this fact, they get retorts claiming false sexism and the recession.

  • This poor women. I was just diagnosed with PCOS about a month ago, but have had been suffering with it for years now. It took a new gyno to diagnose me. The three old ones I have had, never even hinted to PCOS, just that I was "irregular" and this was the cards I was dealt.

  • This poor girl! Sounds so awful.

  • HI there, I have had pcos for years amd now personal training women who have it, using my skils that i have learnt over the years to push it to the curb.. it doesnt have to take over your life .. x

  • hi all,

I am 22yrs old, frm New Zealand and I wanted to know if there is anyone who could help me find a cure or treatment for PCOS? I discovered I had this problem about a year ago and I've been dealing with this on my own, I am so ashame that I can't share it with my husband and the rest of the family. Does anyone know a cure or treatment for this?

  • there is no cure. but being put on birth control can help regulate things. Or you can be placed on metformin - a drug that usually treats diabetes -as I am - to help regulate things

  • can ppl with pcos still have kids?

    i have pcos too

  • sure you can have kids it's just a lot more difficult and once you are pregnant you are considered high risk, but you can definitely have kids

  • Her first gynocologist was a fucking idiot. My gynocologist had never met before, and on day one, took one look at me and said he thought I had PCOS. He thought this cause of the acne and excessive weight around the belly area. I got lucky with my Gyno I suppose.

  • OG, I could definitely relate to the woman in this video. I had many of the same issues she did such as being overweight and having excess hair on my face and chest.

  • And is been reported that PCO is hereditary,But my doctor still insist that I don't have it, she put me on birth control for the hair problem and antibiotics for my acne. Now, is not that I want to have this problem but it freaks me out to think that i haven't been properly diagnosed and let things get worse. My doctors thinks that if i lose weight i will be all set, but after seeing this im totally scared that just losing weight is not the answer.

    I def need a 2nd opinion

  • I FEEL SO FRUSTRATED!!!!

I have been dealing with a lot of the systems of PCO, chin hairs, mustache growth, even thinning hair and acne. This is irritating but the most frustrating part is that my doctor is not "convinced" that i have PCO, she states that because my insulin levels are not high and Im having regular menstrual cycles it cant be related to PCO. But get this, my two older sisters have both just been diagnose with PCO!

  • then go to a different doctor PCO is passed down by family members from the mother's side or father's side. You need to get treatment or you'll be in risk of heart diseases.

  • when i was 11 years old i had skin tag kinda things on my side near a scar i got from surgery and i got the skin tags removed and im kinda starting to get like weird little skin tags on my scar on my chest where i had heart surgery when i was little and the skin tag things r hard to describe but basically they look like tiny bumps it looks like skin covering like blood my moom said its nothin but im not sure

  • I have PCOS too, and I just found out on Friday. I feel like I'm all alone and no one can relate. I'm scared I wont be able to have kids. I wish this kind of thing never exsisted.

  • Don't be, I found out I have today. I was misdiagnosed at 15, now I'm 19. I cried like a baby.

  • There is a PCOS charity with online forums for sufferers to support each other. Google "Verity PCOS Charity" - it should be the first link that shows up.

  • Chances of PCOS leading to edometral cancer are very high. I have it and we caught it just in time.

  • I developed High blood pressure, hypothyroidism, and obesity. Before I lost my periods they were incredibly painful and heavy. I would go through a maxi pad and tampon in 30 minutes the first day. I only got 2 skin tags. Now at 43 I can't tell if I am heading into menopause or my lack of periods is the PCOS. I am now following a metabolic typing diet. After my blood sugar comes down we will work on my hormones.

  • I have the same, but don't take anything. Have problems with too much hairs, where they do not belong to etc. It's not very nice, but not deadly...

  • not deadly, but can lead to problems that can be deadly!

  • Yes, one has to be careful with being overweighed, because of diabetes etc. That is true.

  • ya i hate hair.. liek everywhere. sucks, eh?

  • it's not nice, because I am losing them too much on the head, but have too much on the body :( But I don't want to take any pills...that's the problem.

  • It's horrible for this lady, but they do focus on the most extreme form of PCOS here... most women don't have such severe symptoms. A bit overdramatised...

  • I also have PCOS, Im 26 yrs old and I am married. Last year I lost my baby tru miscarriage and I was so depressed. Now I under go medication, taking metformin and provera. Still hoping to have a baby. In Gods Time. Thanks for the info it really helps and inspiring

  • Stay strong. just because people like us have this, doesn't mean we aren't going to be happy in the future. Look to God he always helps. I'm 16 yrs old and although I don't truly understand, I understand depression and how hopeless the world feels. Just remeber you will always have someone who cares. Be safe, celines♥

  • thanks celine. You're still young I know we will be well. Now I loss weight because of metformin and exercise. I am really decided to take this seriously. be safe too. Grace=)

  • thanks

  • My wife has this and it's really disrupting her mentally and physically. PSOC is something doctors don't seem to care about or even want to study. There are of course some that only study PSOC, but there are only tough disicions involving to rid the syndrome and it's really not fair for women.

So the next time you make fun of women over-weight, remember that it isn't their fault. They are born with the diagnoses and can not be reversed, only slowed down. What can we do? Help gain awareness.

  • Skin tags suck. I had the problem with growing hair in weird places, i had to be put on medication for it. Wow.. her periods were like mine when i was her age, except for the cramps.
