@Guitarman2k104life thanks for checking it out. Yeah, that was almost 4 years ago when I recorded that, so I've gotten much better. I've never been much for playing along with a recording as much as I am playing in a real band... But thanks for watching anyway.
@dnnysrock - Yeah, the keely bd is really good. Got one a few years ago, and it's never disappointed. I don't think he (mayer) uses it all the time, but it's pretty much the perfect tone for a majority of his solos (belief, bold as love, anything with the trio). Get one. And then get a set of Klein s5 pickups - neck pick up makes the mayer tone happen every time.
Can someone help me out with the main riff? i have most of it down except for after the hammer-ons on the fourth and fifth frets. How does it go after that? The recording is insanely fast in that part and i cant get the right notes. All tutorials seem to be wrong.
could u please tell me those 3 chords? cant seem to figure out how to play them correctly, if i got it right so far its AM F and C right? but how do u play them
@zimThuet you play them as bar chords at the 5th, 8th and 1st(or alternatively 13th) frets, but you form the chords by using your thumb to fret the bottom string. hope that helps.
its not a straight Am chord... i forget what they are exactly but ita a typical john mayer chord like the ones in gravity where the one note makes a world of difference.. i don't know my musical theory too well so i don't know exactly what the notes are but its like a Am/D or like Am add4...

thats the way I play it anyways... i find it sounds closest to the song... also sounds great acoustic
Ha, yeah... at the time I did all this by ear. That's the one thing about John,,, He's gotta make it difficult... I don't mind because it really freshens up the same old stuff...
killer tone on the solo man. do you just have the keeley driver and compressor on there? more importantly, what settings do you have the knobs on? thanks...nice job
Ha, unfortunatly the camera I used had limited space on it... Check out some of my more-recent videos for better sound and video quality. The playing has improved slightly as well...
i liked it, your the first guy i see it played mostly the way john does. Thanks for that. Only thing i do different after watching you was i play the fmaj7 up the 13th fret. But well done. And what did you put in the neck pickup?
Hey there, thanks for the comment. I have a blue Lace Sensor in the neck position. I moved the neck pickup to the bridge position because it is wound fatter and hotter than stock... (Sounds hairbrained, but it gives you almost a fat Tele sound)
Just got the Continuum tab book in, man what little I did know its nothing the way John plays it. Not even any of the ultimate-guitar tabs are at least 70% accurate.
Iam a user of vanderbilly . com a free site for amateur, musicans to share video slow motion note for note lessons, and tips. John uses a Micro Synth by Electroharmonix for that. The name of the effect is called an envelope filter.
I can get the sound perfect using a HOG too, I think it uses the same filter as the Micro Synth, plus it doubles as a POG which is what John uses on In Repair.
Excellent when it comes to covering John Mayer's style. keep workin on the improv parts tho. the tone is great, the technic is there, i jus need to feel the energy
remember when it comes to technicality, less is more.and always dont forget to have some quack with your strat there!! turn those knobs to 10 and set the thing on 4.. Sheer beauty.
I appreciate the tips. Don't worry, I don't take it as harsh. I'll admit, when the camera is rolling, it freaks me out so I go in to recital mode. The gear mentioned has since decreased. In the song, I actually don't use all those things, that was just my entire rig. I appreciate anyone who enjoys my vids!!! THANKS TO ALL for the nice comments!!!
good job.but mann, lottt of gear for the song..you could pull the sound if you just stuck with the pedals and had a single 12.. blues deluxe or so would do it.then you would get the perfect cruch gain when pushed for your solo while keeping the small end of the fender quack.nice keeley though.those rock. all-in-all i would say good but make sure you dont lose it at the end.
wow hey nice strummin' didnt know u played guitar very nice my friend!! beautiful song!!! u need ti cut a cd!! i would buy it! thanks for the comment on ours the best thing about it was, the pink trenchcoat kept me warm while the other two had to freeze in the rain!!LOL
by the way I'm 15 too, Fenders are probably the best guitars. i bought an american series strat a few months ago off my uncle, and i'm never going back :D definatly the best guitar i've ever played!!
no way man im 15 and my first guitar was a fender strat and the only guitar thats ever satisfied me. fender isnt gona die with guys like john mayer around
Fender is prefered by older players. Probably because a lot of the younger kids are more into metal. But hey Im 17 and my main guitar is a Clapton Stratocaster. Works for me!
i'm 16 and like SRV, Hendrix, John Mayer. 've got a hotrod deluxe and a classic 60s stratocaster. A lot of people think that the classic serie from Mexico is shit, but it is really not! it's is a really, really, really great guitar!
that was a comment several months ago in reference to someone who commented that he was 13 and had a 72 telecaster. I didn't mean the guy in this video who is clearly more than 13yrs old and is playing a Strat and has no visible Tele(s)
Needs a lot of work. It wz ok to say the most.
