I remember a time during my freshman year in college when we had a nutritionist visit our freshman orientation class for bio majors. She said she is naturally an introvert but to get the job she wanted, she had to constantly display extroversion. Even the assessment tests for employment do likewise. They turn down people who would otherwise be perfect for the position simply for not being an extrovert. Plus in today's society, extroversion is seen as a good thing and introversion a bad thing.

I am so glad that Susan Cain is using her quiet leadership skills to speak out against the tyranny of the majority. Instead of pressuring everyone to be a certain way, people should simply offer the best of their natural personality types without shame. I am an introvert married to another introvert who was never ashamed to admit it. In a world filled with people trying to prove how outgoing they are, and how many friends they have, it was refreshing to meet a quiet, bookish, indoor guy like him
