  • Massive shame really. They save their best album (in my opinion) until the world is full of rubbish like techno and rap so they don't even manage to get in the charts! So underrated.

  • this sucks dick

  • guys, buy the album, I pre-order it, and it's worth it.

  • I love this song but I can't find anywhere that has it for downloading. Anyone know where I can get it?

  • have you tried itunes ?

  • piratebay has the album indexed. i got it easy. but i still special-ordered the vinyl. totally worth it. their best album yet.

  • @jacobearlmusic How can you tell which is the best - they're all different and all good.

  • @cataloguetown i agree; it's just a matter of personal taste. i really really like the sound of post electric blues.

  • itunes

  • lol can't get the solo at the beginning out of my head it's soooooooooooo catchy!

  • I love how much they have changed since captain, all they're albums have a different feel to them so you can just pick an album to suit your mood :]

  • really like this track but 'captain' still remains for me the best thing they've done. the musical balance definatly changed when bob left..

  • anyone know tab for any of the new songs please??

  • love it!

  • XD IDLEWILD!! I CANT WAIT UNTIL THE ALBUM COMES HERE!

    (if we already have it)

  • God I wish I could find this in the states =(. Amazon only has it for an import at about 32 dollars new -.-. Amazon MP3 hasn't gotten around to it yet, but the few songs I've heard are making me all the more anxious for it to be put up there for purchase.

  • @Khanstorm Shoulda preordered like I did ;)

  • Idlewild are the best band in britain nevermind Scotland

  • Who cares if they're well known. And the album is very good if you listen to it enough.

  • yaaay love this!

  • The album is good. Not a masterpiece but a lovely record to listen at. If you love Idlewild you'll love it... The lads are a great band, maybe they always missed that last step for being worldwide but who cares...

  • I was disappointed by the new record at first but it's starting to grow on me.

I also think it's weird they aren't better known given the quality of their music. I guess we can appreciate them as a well-kept secret. ;)

Although does anyone else think this track is going to be used in an ad for Dave or something? lol

  • great song absoulete class!

  • Hummm does anyone else think its a shame this album has had piss poor promotion, hardly any air play, no offical video and few updates of their website? Its kinda annoying cause this record is fucking brilliant, but guys 90 in the uk charts? Its annoying how enivitable that it would chart so lowely. Mr Womble sort it out please!

  • yea its sooo weird why they arent a big commercial success with the music they produce, tho im slighty biased as they're my fave band and seen them 3 times (4 next week) but tbh i wouldnt want them to be huge they deserve it but it wouldnt be the same idlewild i dont think? PIN PIN! xXx

  • Your dead right, idlewild are criminally underrated. And the new album is there best since remote part. Its a shame they havent had mainstream success with post electric blues, Maybe the closest they will ever get to it was remote part. But i really love this band and one of the best our generation, not many can to compare to the partnership of woomble and jones

  • I think mr woomble prefers the it this way.

Which is good, most bands who become popular in this age tend to start to lack any meaning in there songs..

  • but thats just one big massive cop out and is unbelievably subjective, if an album is good it should sell, albums that are good and dont sell are those that dont get enough promotion. So if this album went top 10 would it lack anymore meaning? Idlewild are a great band and i can't see how anyone can justify how they did in the charts by saying 'comerical albums are shit' cause they would be good albums if they sold 10 or 10 million copies.

  • I believe Idlewild have not been managed, or allowed someone to manage them properly. The product i believe is first class.

  • The reason why they are not commercially successful is they vary their style in each album, and it's rarely to a style which is popular at the time. For example Editors' new album is very La Roux which is cool at the mo. Idlewild followed up their most successful album with a pseudo folk album which definitely wasn't cool. Next couple of albums didn't fit into any popular niche either, which is vvvvvv good!

  • I'm a big idlewild fan dont get me wrong but what they do isnt that different to whats out there; they are just much better at it. Who would have thought new rave would be popular? Or icelandic music? Warnings/Promises sold over 50,000 copies in the uk, cause they were still on emi, make another world on sanctuary records aroune 25,000. Idlewild make sonically 'indie' albums therefore the niche of this is quite big no matter what they do within the confindes of its genre by design its comerical.

  • They make indie rock sound beautiful.

I gave up on wondering why they are not popular. They did punk, garage rock 2-3 years before it became popular again (e.g. the Strokes stuff). They included element of folks (again 2-3 years) before it is acceptable as now.

    It's just bad luck.

    Love them so much though.

  • @sillcinnamon In my view they were poorly managed, or too stupid or arrogant to listen, this is the reason for there lack of success. You mess with your core fan base when you have made your name, and there are enough people to adust to your change of direction.

  • @sillcinnamon they are not big cos people have no taste!!

  • @sillcinnamon They did?? I think you'll find the likes of Face to Face, Offsrpring, Greenday were busy making new age punk in 1991 onwards before it exploded again in 1994.. Idlewild claimed they formed in 1995 but didn't put an album out till 1998.

  • @fatriff I merely talked about the Brit musice scene. But true, Idlewild got a lot of early influence from American bands. May not be directly link to the bands you mentioned though. I think Roddy early favourites were Pearl Jam and REM.

  • @turnersterror88 amen.

  • Idlewild have not been, or they have not allowed someone to manage them properly. The product is first class. They had there chance and blew it.

  • I'm happy, I'm hopefully on the guestlist for when they play an intimate gig in the Scottish Borders next month. Happy days.

  • i absolutely love this song, the starting riff just sticks in ur head for the whole day cos it's that good

  • I love this song, just got the song off Itunes and the acoustic song that comes along with the R&W single is also brilliant!

  • very nice song... I heard on german student radio M94,5 yeah

  • If you havent heard the album: be prepared for some of the folky violins you might remember from Roddy's solo album.

I Dont think this song will be big but if you like it, youll like the album - its got that big cheery sound to it. Except for 'dreams of nothing' - thats a gem that sounds like something from 'the remote part'

  • Criptikclues - You're pissed off that they didn't get the recognition for warnings/promises they deserved, I'm STILL pissed off they were ignored when When I argue I see shapes was a single, and that was over 10 years ago!!!

I think it's maybe a good thing they didn't get their big break years ago, they deserve more recognition but they haven't sold out to anyone, and perhaps if theyd had early success, they might have, and would probably have disbanded years ago. Long may they rule!!!

  • Hummmmm i hope they get signed to a big label for this song, its got the potential to go top 10.....and im quite pissed off that they were quitely ignored after warnings/promises, i think this is their best song possibly ever! Though finished it remains and safe and sound will always be up there methinks!

  • they wont be signing to a label, they are releasing by themselves now

  • FAIL. They've released it by themselves but it also will be released commercially by the small independant label Cooking Vinyl.

Yes, this piece of small knowledge makes me better than you.

  • amen

  • Thanks for posting these. It's got me excited about the album coming out!

I've kind of lost touch with Idlewild over the last couple of years, but I'm definitely back into them now. They should be more popular than they are!

  • In light of other comments, I must say, listening to these songs has made my day... for now I have something tangible to get excited about when the album comes out for us 'lesser' beings who neglected to pre-order. Cheers treb!

  • I and others paid good money to get this album and you're putting one of the best songs up for free?! If you reduced it to a short clip -a teaser- it would be acceptable. You're just douching over Idlewild's biggest fans this way.

  • He hasn't sent anyone the album, it's one song that's on youtube! How could they sell the album without any promotion? Good work sticking this song up whoever it was. I'm content to know i have 10 other songs that aren't up here.

  • floozysuzie20: the drummer Colin mentioned it on @ the official Idlewild forum.

  • Found it. Cheers!

  • I cannot believe you have put this and City Hall onto Youtube. Did you not read what the band had asked of us?

    Really very disappointing.

And what makes you think this is gonna be the single?! Yes it was mentioned on Roddy's Twitter page - which turned out not to be him.

    I'm not very happy.

  • ffs man it's only two songs. the two best ones imo, how does that hurt the band? they may as well not post any of their promo music videos then. my intention is only to promote the band. i'm not the one uploading the album or telling people to download it. it's 2009, toughen up.

  • After writing that message, and having a couple of days to think about it, i think that ok yeh, it may be good promotion for them. And 2 of the best i think as well. So if i makes folk want to buy the album then brilliant.

But my first reaction was disbelievement (is that even a word?) and anger.

I'll ask again - what makes you think this is gonna be the first single?

  • disbelief ;)

  • Disbelief.

  • I agree, there's no harm in putting the songs on youtube. I followed the band since I saw them in 2001, I just didn't join the fanclub so it's good to hear the new stuff even though I'm not considered a 'real fan'. Thanks very much for the upload.

  • @treble41 2010 now ^^

  • I agree, this is a good song!

  • It's bloody brilliant
