  • LURCH I tell ya!

  • There is a song that sounds very similar to this but I cant remember the name. If anyone can name it with my cryptic clue Id really appreciate it hahah

  • Darned wierd....almost scary....to see him suddenly start dancing from his standing position...twice. This is bizarre, strange, and fascinating. Can't.....stop.....watching...

  • very good show

  • Teri Garr is one of the dancers

    nifty trivia

  • When he says "Your welcome" he slightly nods his head <3

  • if i were ever that close to that hottie i would faint! He could take me on a cruise around town ANY time!!!

  • if i were ever that close to that hottie i would faint!

  • We lost Lurch'Ted Cassidy" much to young! Best tv icon ever!

  • @jevilscientist: Too young? When did Ted pass? And at what age?

  • @SPCLPONY July 31, 1932-January 16, 1979

  • @SPCLPONY He passed away at 45, due to alleged heart complications.

  • I absolutly fell in love with him <3

  • Intil i found out how down to earth and sweet he was... i absolutly ADORE him soooo much

  • Standing there with those dancers , Lurch looks a little "stiff".

  • 2:33 he quits dancing to check out that ass hah go Lurch!

  • I had my whole office singing and dancing today at our admin meeting. Awesome!!

  • i remember the song very well...but had totally forgotten that show!

  • mary who?

  • DAMN what a voice that man had. He must've shaken the snow off of the trees in winter!

  • I'm just the same height as lurch. :) Ha ha!

  • I'm 2 inches shorter than lurch :3

  • This Is A Trip Man, But I Dig It Man....Far Out!!!

  • outstanding old video

  • He was indeed a talented man. I still love to this day, his part he played in The Six Million Dollar Man as Bigffoot. I felt at times that I just wanted to hug the big hairy beast :)

  • This is the essence of music

  • Was Michael Jackson watching this as a kid? Just a thought, considering a certain video.

  • I loved Ted Cassidy in everything he did. I never saw this clip before. So glad it was posted.

  • For a big man, Ted Cassidy could really move.

  • Sean, yes, he was in "Poor Pretty Eddie" and was GREAT!

  • now it time to get down look at the go -go dancer

and look back stage.they dance also.

  • Wow Lurch could really dance. Ted was light on his feet!

  • very outstanding now take me way back. to that time.

  • Oh im jackin this shit next party i got to

that dance is smooth as a mothafucka

  • very good old flim.

  • now that some dance old lurch can due.i really that old flim

    believe it was in 1964.

  • Oh wow!I remember this!!Sean, your father was my favorite character on the show.He was so ..."neat" & "sweet"LOL!!!Glad I grew up in this fun era!

  • It's an honor to meet Mr. Ted's son.

You know, It's really my first time to watch the original Addams Family, and

for me,I know that your that dad did a great job.

I can't stop laughing when he was showing up, saying:

    YOU RANG..

    God Bless You! =)

  • Ted Cassidy had a great range, even though he is most beloved for Lurch. It IS a shame that he so often played villains because of his great height, but he was wonderful in everything I ever saw him do. He was also, without the Lurch make-up an extremely handsome man. I was heartbroken at his early death. But isn't it wonderful that he made such an impression in the short time he was on Earth? Bless you, Sean, and bless your wonderful father.

  • An awesome actor!!Many happy hours spent watching him! Thanks for sharing!

  • I think David Gates was involved in this. Great song!!!

  • Ted Cassidy was terrific in everything from the Addams Family to Butch Cassidy & the Sundance Kid, to the voice of Blaze Glory. Always enjoyed his performances, and was always sorry that his life was cut short.

  • I love Ted Cassidy - it would have been really great to have seen him in a "regular" non stereotypical role. he was awesome!

  • RNRCUB; The song is on the cd "Hollywood Hi.Fi" (Brunswick Records BRU 81013-2). The book "Hollywood Hi Fi" (same photo as the cd cover) has one page dedicated to the song.

  • I missed him I want see him more

  • LUrch was my favorite. My grandad's brother was really tall like him and he just stopped talking when he was an older dude and when i would see him. I called him LURCH I thought he was Lurch from Addams family and sometimes he would make the growl sound like Lurch for us kids and we would just run away . But This character was my fav. thanks to new technology i am just catching up all my fav shows from yesteryear like the Addams Family, The Munsters

  • @WonderWomanFan4life I too am catching up on those 2 old shows. Herman Munster is my fave character from The Munsters and Lurch is my fave character from The Addams Family. :-)

  • @Laoch111

OMG me too. YOu know I was telling a friend who is a CEO of a company exactly what I just said. He looked at me for what felt like 5 minutes and then he said. Well It reminds you of your childhood. But I said. No it was the fact that I loved these shows and I never could figure out what times they came on and it was like my parents had to go somewhere so we didnt have like recording DVR nor DVD, NOR VHS at the time. So that meant I missed it. So now I can catch up on all of them.

  • @Laoch111

Yep me too. did you see the one in color?? I also found some trivia about the Munsters like Who was Marilyn related to??? So I watched a bunch of them but a FAN pointed out the episode. Apparently Marilyn was related to Lily's Brother who was a Wolfman but I guess the mother was a regular woman and not a wolfwoman. But Grandpa was Lily's father. They had another LILY and Eddie for the pilot and it was AWFUL. looked better in B/W. but these two shows r GREAT. Next Gilligans Island

  • @WonderWomanFan4life Yes I saw the unaired pilot. All the actors were different except Herman and Grandpa. Yes it was bad and it is better in B/W.

  • @WonderWomanFan4life

LOL totally. that LILY sucked too. and the Eddie that they had was Booooring!!! they really did good with the the other characters. Did you notice that a few of the Addams family episodes had similar storylines as Munsters?

i just noticed that too. They both divided house with a line! Ok both had a grandpa type (uncle fester/ Grandpa) similar. Herman was a sleep walker as was Gomez? did you gomez was married to patty duke once

  • R.I.P. Ted 'Lurch' Cassidy. I just realised today that he also did the voice for the intro to The Incredible Hulk TV series.

  • @Laoch111

oh wow i didnt know that. funny how we are all thinking of him right now

  • I wonder if Ted Cassidy & Fred Gwynne had ever met? Always wondered if Mr Cassidy really played the Harpsichord on the Addams Family too?

  • Ted Cassidy was one of THE best actors ever known! although badly Typecasted,

this man was multi-talented,as proven by that unmistakable voice, which cartoon

studios like DePatie-Freleng,Filmation and Hanna-Barbera had put to great use,

back in the days! despite his size, he was the finest actor, and had done superb work! he is still badly missed,,and his work will be passed on,for many more years

    to follow!

  • This is awesome!!! Lurch was always my favorite character on that show, I had no idea he did this! He seems like he had a great sense of humor. Love it, it's finding things like this that make Youtube great.

  • Those dancers are mad hot

  • So this is where Elaine Benes learned to dance!

  • I read where Ted interviewed some witnesses to the Kennedy assasination on a Dallas TV station.

  • Thanks for posing. I just love this video. I even mentioned Lurch in my novel about the 60s. thank you.

  • To know it is to love it! :^)

  • I love this !!!

  • Lurch reminds me of Riff Raff from Rocky Horror, lmao.

  • can anyone find a pic or vid of Mr. Cassidy as "Creech", an alien creature he played before Lurch ?

  • I remember the song, and the dance. We all need to have a little more fun in our lives, and movement!

  • The Lurch is the Coolest Cat on the Planet Earth Neighborhood block. Ted Cassidy also played in the movie Butch Cassidy & The Sundance Kid.

  • He was one of my favorite actors. Very distinctive voice. hl57, I could only imagine what it was like having him for a dad. He was a great actor.

  • Awesome! Catchy song, great dance moves, super-sized class.

  • I had this on single once a time long time ago..

  • Lurch and The "Duke of Earl" on the same show . . . cool. I knew Teri Garr was one of the "Shivaree" dancers because she mentioned it on Letterman one time when she was a guest, and she also mentioned doing "The Lurch" on the show.

  • dark motherfucker

  • He can move well for such a big lad.

  • Cousin of JAWS from 007 James Bond

  • he should have sang the monster mash, now that i think of it

  • Not only is he 6'9" he also wore thick soled shoes to make him even taller.

  • Wow, this is cool! When he starts moving into the dance, it's like a REFRIGERATOR starts dancing! Boom! Some big mass is on the move! Props to him!

  • is this where Michael Jackson got his idea for Thriller?! LOL!

  • The world is full of people working in all kinds of trades who do not enjoy their job!! I have always loved the AAdams family films, and TV series

  • I'm Ted Cassidy's son, Sean. Thanks for the kind comments. He auditioned, b/c it was his first TV role. He later became disillusioned b/c at 6'9" he became typecast as a "heavy", and he wanted to play lead roles. ..That said, I think he would have a different perspective now that Lurch has become a piece of beloved Americana. He was a great dad, and I think a talented and funny actor.

  • @hl57 Well if You really are His son, just to let u know, Your dad was the Man! Lurch was always my favorite character. He played it well. :)

  • @danlublock hl57 definitely IS! Whoa, check out his profile - big DUDE!

  • @hl57 it may not seem like it but it takes a talented actor to play a part like that.

  • @hl57

At least the animation industry treated him better. :)

    What a voice! :D

  • @hl57 As a kid, I recognized his voice immediately in the intro theme to "Atom Ant" because it sounds exactly like Lurch without the drawn-out syllables. Thanks for posting comments here. BTW - was it true that he was the announcer at a Dallas radio or TV station and broke the news of JFK being shot? I'd heard that for years and was curious if it was true.

  • @hl57 Thanks for the info Sean. I am a Lurch fan myself and sought out this song for my Halloween collection. Your dad developed an iconic character and the Addams Family would not have been the same without him.

  • @hl57 - He was great in "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid". He shoud've worked a lot more in non Lurch roles.

  • Hello Mister Cassidy

It's an honor to speak to you (as such) this song is really fun and I have never been able to get a copy of it. Thank you for the reply I am still star struck and had many wonderful hours with your father's works. I wish you the best as life unfolds for you A big fan in Salisbury, MD Ben

  • @hl57 thank you for posting this comment, everyone loved your dad including miself.,he was a great actor and very unique person, i grew up in the 70s and never missed any shows he was in, it was very sad he passed so young, thanks again.

  • Thank you for posting this note. Very good to hear you praising your Pop like that!

  • @hl57 Are you really his son?? Wow, I just loved your Dad1! I even had a crush on him when I was about 13 yrs. old! I remember him on the original "Star Trek" too! He was wonderful and I was saddened to hear he had passed away. I still think he was a wonderful actor and what a beautiful, deep voice he had. I will never forget him!

  • @hl57 ...

    typecast?

    No!

    Your father was immortalized.

And yes a very talented actor.

  • @hl57 Ain't it great to be the son of a great TV legend?

  • @hl57 He's not beloved only because of Lurch... I remember him as Injun Joe... PLUS his Incredible Hulk intro is iconic and he was also a part of Star Trek greatness!

  • @hl57

How Can you prove it to me?? Prove that he was your father? Do you have website with your photos, you and your dad? etc? Not trying to be negative but i learned online anyone can pretend to be anyone. Seirously. I loved this character and I just want to know. . if so i would love to find out more. he rocked. I am sure many actors get upset when they want to play other roles. but in the end working is working. to change they normally have to produce their own stuff

  • @hl57 At first I thought u were kidding, but checked out ur channel and can see ur resemblance to ur father. As a kid, I thought he was awesome! Watched him on the Addams Family and thought he was the best part of the show! My favorite episode of Star Trek was "What Little Girls Are Made Of", and it was because of your father starring in it as "Ruk" the massive android! Great part in "Butch Cassidy And The Sundance Kid" also. You must be proud to have a Dad who is an American Icon! God Bless!!!

  • @hl57 i use to wounder if Lurch really had a deep voice like he did on the Addams family then i seen a video of him singing and seen that he really did and i got to say having that deep voice makes him a real good singer he sounds really good who new Lurch could sing .and from what i heard and what i read about him he was just a big guy with a big heart and a great man .and hes so right in that song he sang that says if you got nothing nice to say about some one don't say nothing at all .so true

  • @hl57 I pay tribute to your father in my upcoming book Paul & Rosa (Author House). One of the sub characetsr on the basketball team is nicknamed Lurch because of the TV Show Addams family. I even mentioned this song in my novel. The story is a love story between two high school sweethearts (Paul & Rosa) in the 1960s (1964-65). Please send me your e-mail so I can tell you more about it. I might just e-mail you the whole script.

  • @hl57 Wow, your dad was Ted Cassidy!? It's an honor to talk to you sir! Apart from his imposing stature I'm sure your dad was a kind gentle giant. As a kid I used to love watching The Addams Family...I'm now 40 and still enjoy watching it and I guess I always will! (LOL!)

Thank you for sharing your comments here. Best Regards from sunny Florida! :) Ryan

  • @hl57 I love seeing him have fun in the clip from the "going Coconuts" premiere party..

  • @hl57 i wish that i would have had the chance to meet him in person

  • @hl57 Your dad was hilarious in The Last Remake of Beau Geste. Very underrated actor, I loved him too much as a kid to be frightened of him

  • @hl57 How wonderful to see you aboard YouTube! I loved Lurch, and would have been very happy to meet your father at any time, not just because of this character, although Lurch is my fave. My house would be a center of culture and refinement with a butler like that one. :) I'm a fan, and a Seana! Pleasure to meet you!

  • @hl57 I hope you are who you say you are, as I just wanted to say, that you are one lucky guy to have such a larger than life father. I believe that after a while, your father declined roles as a mindless thug or brute? I can understand that, with being type cast like that.

  • @hl57. I remember him as Isiah from Planet Earth and Genesis II. I wish those would of been made into weekly series.

  • @hl57 Man! Remember you from a looooong time ago @ UCLA. You used to work out in the old MAC B gym, right?

  • @hl57 Were did he grow up -City Was the rest of his family also very tall ?

  • An absolute delight of a video, even better now that it's online! Since this video was shot, Gene Weed has also passed away, just so that yanyone who's watching this is left in no doubt\!

  • Great song great dance always loved Lurch. Are there any other songs from It or Wednesday Adams with videos available?

  • The 1960s were the best times to be cheesy and campy.

Catchy tune....and like most of you I'm a Ted Cassidy fan.

Bummer that this show/episode came two or so years before I was born (in 1967).

  • Agreed, 46, I was not even 3 when he sadly departed, but at least he ain't suffering anymore!

  • What an absolute delight of a tune: he sure clinched the deal, and was just the right height for the role of Lurch: what with his height and stature, he could have passed as a policeman, or maybe even a school headmaster!

  • An absolute stormer! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE bring more videos lke this one up please?

  • One heck of a video, gets better and better every time!

  • never saw this before.... I wasn't born yet. Lurch was smooth...

  • Quite nimble for such a tall guy.

  • True! He was one cool dude! Long may he rest in peace!

  • lurch, music...............errrrrrrrrrr

  • At least Ted Casssidy had a smooth voice, and his words were easily distinguishable: rock on and rest in peace Theodore!

  • Totally surprised he recorded a record, much less a Motown-flavored dance tune. Way,way better than a lot of songs recorded by TV actors, who tended to go for schmaltz or novelty, and while this might be considered a novelty because he's doing it in character,it can actually stand on its own outside of the novelty tag. More than just Lurch,he was excellent as Big Harvey in Butch Cassidy & the Sundance Kid,which I'm sure the ladies loved 'cause they saw he was good lookin' and took his shirt off.

  • when did this come out?

  • Probably 1964-5!

  • The music is sooooo Motown. And great Motown at that.

  • At last! Something a lot more sensible! Bring more videos like this one on!

  • hes 6'9

  • Absolute belter of a video: Wonderful preformance from Lurch: R.I.P Crawford!

  • Epic Performance by Ted Cassidy~! Lurch is now part of Americana. Rock on Lurch. I actually love that song~~!

  • TERRIFIC! Lurch sure as heck gave it his best shot: R.I.P Theodore!

  • ABSOLUTELY wonderful: Theodore was too good for his own good on this video, shame he ain't here anymore! Rest In Peace Theodore: You bonny lad!

  • His moves were very, very, impressive. The other dancers really made the entire video shine. The song should have won a grammy award. There was nothing else like it at this time. Thanks!

  • thats scary ,,, ive never seen him move so fast.

  • Lurch seems more normal then every one else.

  • I'm a dance instructor and I have to say...THAT'S dancing, baby!

    I love it!

  • Hey....this is.....GREAT!

  • Also now I know what the 60's were like: AWESOME!!!!!!

  • LOVE IT!!! So 60's!!! Ted is awesome!!! Go Lurch Go!!!!!!! I would have cracked up if the rest of the cast was on the stage dancing!!!

  • Dolph Lundgren?

  • @StrangeQuarkStar I was thinking Ted Danson.

  • he could move pretty well to be 6'9. always loved the voice

  • @BabyBoiQue

it's not like he had problems moving because of his height. he's like any other guy physically, only taller. I'm 6'2" and I'm a non-athletic girl, I don't have problems dancing/running. he just did such a good job portryaing Lurch that people thought he was always that way, a fact that he, if you read his interviews, hated. he was a normal guy, just really tall.

  • the fact that he played lurch had nothing to do with why i said it, that was just an act. Its rare to see someone that tall dance like that. The fact that he was 6'9 makes him UNLIKE any other guy.

  • How tall are you exactly? Just pretend you're you, only 6'9", and then say exactly what you said to me to yourself.

Some of the things he said in interviews spoke directly to me because I'm unusually tall and artsy as well. No, I'm not as tall as him, or a professional actor. yes, I'm a woman. I'm not angry at YOU perse, just annoyed at some things I hear. "he can move pretty well to be 6'9" " translates (to me) as: "tall people can't dance." forgive me, I took it a little personally.

  • i never said tall people cant dance, i just said he was ABOVE average for someone his hight

  • Comment removed

  • great video, i so wish it was in colour though :)

  • Ted Cassidy had a great voice and could move pretty well for being 6' 9" tall.

  • If he played football,he'd play Middle linebacker.

  • I whoelheartedly agree with you! I personally find his voice quite soothing, considering he was almost a Basso Profundo! RIP Theodore, and my god be with you!

  • uuuuuhhhhh *facepalm facedesk facewall*

  • terri garr to the lurches right?

  • Tony Robbins lives!!!!!!

  • The big man could move.Rest in peace,Ted.

  • Thanks for posting this. I have never seen it before.

  • Wtf.

  • è lui!!!!!

  • Thanks for the heads-up MikiMaki76.

  • my pleasure :-)

  • certo che però è identico !!!!!!

  • Spieghiamo agli inglesi che vedono commenti in ligua strana:

    -------------------------------------------------------

    ****To all english people****

this video has been linked to Beppe Grillo's Italian blog, so if you happen to see comments in a weird language you don't understand, that's the reason.

Lurch's face resembles the face of a notorious italian minister and lawyer sooo dear to Mr. Berlusconi. :-)

(Yes I know it's a bit silly, but what you gonna do?)

  • Ghedini-ciuccia-pisellini...

  • hahaha LOL

    è lui

  • Lurch è moooolto più simpatico di Ghedini.

  • We Ghedì che ci fai lì?

  • lurch is my all time favorite character on old tv. I've all hoped that I could get a professional make up artist to make me up. I'm tall and I've been working on my deep voice.

  • Absolutely terrific! Shame that poor Ted ain't here tohear his praises bein' sung! He I was too good for his own good!

  • Incredible. What a low Bass-voice...(=

  • Specifically: agreeing with allmightyganesh that this is basically the greatest thing I've ever seen.

  • I preffered him in PAX by Roddenberry

  • Ted Cassidy hated being lurch. He wanted to be rememered for a role that had nothing to do with playing clumsy dumb big man characters.

  • Strange. If he didn't care for the role...I wonder why he auditioned for it?

I hear he was a well respected actor, though!

  • "If he didn't care for the role...I wonder why he auditioned for it?" Maybe he needed the money.

  • @spikepriggen It's hard to get roles when you're that big and have such a deep voice. He was actually pretty fortunate in my opinion.

  • @NemeanLion I'm not sure exactly why you're directing this comment at me (or exactly what you're trying to say with it) as all I did was post this video. I didn't make any comment like the ones you seem to be referencing.

  • @Batinthebelfry7 He needed a pay check. It's hard to find roles at 6 foot nine. Growing up..people called me Lurch...And I never saw The Adams Family...I only made it to 6 foot 5~ Lurch rocks. I take it as a compliment~

  • never knew this existed!! Great!!

  • Oh yeah,I bought the 45 in 1965! "It's a brand new bag!" One of the many reasons I miss the 1960's.
